Heartburn is more so a digestive problem. Try taking a probiotic daily and it would help to drink a less acidic coffee.

For my French press I like to weigh the coffee, I use about 18 grams of course ground coffee for 2 1/2 cups water. then if you want to reduce the oil and sediments in the pot can always pour it through into the Chemex jar with a filter. 2 1/2 cups of water turn into just 16 oz of coffee this way! and use filtered water.

My French press & Chemex are both glass so I like how they are nonreactive.

    Hi

Always wanted to try one like this one any comments

While on vacation, we went to a crazy expensive restaurant that used vacuum coffee makers...

The coffee was OUTSTANDING. Tons of flavor, no bitterness.

    They used this one:

As with any food service, it's all location specific.

My Starbucks is actually pretty good. They are quick, friendly and make a decent coffee.

Making coffee is a skill, an unfortunate reality is that they are going to have skill gaps between locations.

I work for a large multi-unit company, I have been flat out embarrassed by what peers of mine have done at other locations, but I still know that I work for a good company.

I ended up buying a cheap pour over just to see if I don't mind the extra hassle of making it over the ease of the Keurig. Is the taste worth the trouble. I have only made one cup so far and it was a bit weak and the grounds weren't fine enough. Jury's still out.

If I like it well enough, I will invest in something better.

takes time to get your process down. I read a lot at first, tried a bunch of different things before finding a process that I enjoyed. the coffee's good, but I also enjoy the process of making it probably just as much.

indeed, some great info above from Moose.
water temp, brew time, grind size, amount... have fun with it.

I keep coming back to relating this to audio and cables, how each part of the process has its effect on the end experience.

re: the heartburn/stomach probs, have you considered trying cold-brew? apparently cold brewing can reduce acid by up to 2/3. I've been meaning to try this, myself, but in some reading, I'm not even sure anymore how these acids affect stomach acid/irritation, as it seems that there are a bunch of different types of acids produced in coffee. the more I read on this stuff, the deeper it gets - another type of rabbit hole!

@msg , I think most of my heartburn is from stress. Money issues and we had to put our dachshund to sleep after 13 great years. I am already doing a bit better and trying to manage my stress.

Thanks for the suggestions though and well as all the great info from @Moose68Bash.

I use a small drip coffeemaker at work, so the pour over will only be for 2 cups on a Sat. and Sun. morning, so the coffee grinding and pouring ritual could be relaxing.

Sorry about your dog, Jimbo18. I absolutely love dachshunds and d@mn near went broke trying to fix one cursed with a bad back. 13 years would have been a dream in our case. BTW, for any that say the Keurig won't make a strong and large cup, it will, just run two batches. Twice on the 6 oz. setting gives 12 oz. of pretty strong Joe. ;)

I was shocked that Nestle, a household name, stooped to this to promote a product.

For me anyway, drinking coffee is part ritual, part relaxing....a comfort zone if you will. I can't imagine anyone being comfortable in a place like that. Didn't mean to derail the thread so lets forget about the video. Bad choice on my part.

My first real effort with the pour over maker this morning wasn't a homerun but it was at least a double.

I used a Westrock Coffee Co. (East African) blend that I had on hand. Most of my coffee is pods for the Keurig, so I will have to look for some beans that I can grind in the future, but this was a fresh, previously unopened bag, so it wasn't bad.

I made a pot of about 3 cups, or two mugs, with filtered water and 3 tablespoons of coffee. It was slightly strong, which I prefer because I usually have one mug with half-half and then the second one black.

It made for a nice, smooth cuppa, which I think will improve with more practice and grinding my own beans. A better pour over maker, or at least steel filter, is in my future.

Any suggestions for buying smooth, rich coffee beans, will be appreciated.

    @Jimbo18,

You might give Hubbard & Cravens's Cordillera Espresso Blend a try:

    https://www.hubbardandcravens.com/shop/shop/coffee/signature-blends/

Don't be put off because it says "espresso;" it produces a rich, smooth cup of coffee.

Also, if you are not using a burr grinder, and you really want the best cup of coffee, spend the money to get a pretty good one.

Can't say more now; I have to go pull four shots of Cordillera and foam some milk for my morning "Lethal Injection" -- the name I use for the concoction that I drink every morning! :)

Water temp will make a big difference, and the pour time. I use a scale to get the same amount of coffee, for fine ground I found close to 1 oz of water => 1 gram of coffee.
I normally use 20oz of water and 18-20 grams of coffee depending on the coffee.

but for course ground coffee in a french press I use about 28-30 grams of coffee. to get same cup as a drip machine would make using same amount of water.

here a good video for pour over!

And thanks, Moose, I might check that out also. My grinder is a Capresso burr grinder and it's decent but a really fine grind tends to clog it up.

    @Jimbo18,

The Capresso grinder should serve you very well till you get into pulling shots of espresso.

Even high quality commercial espresso grinders can get a little clogged in hot, humid weather. It helps to clean the residue from the burrs and the insides of the grinder. One easy solution:

    https://www.chriscoffee.com/Full-Circle-Grinder-Cleaner-p/fclgr.htm

You might want to give it a try.

We're kind of drifting from the original topic.

I wonder whether we should start a new "Coffee Topics" thread?
