The problem is indeed population growth. Too many people is a set up for
disease and starvation. A quick look at the world population explosion
means that something has to give. We have depended on insect control,
fertilizers, and modern agriculture to keep up. But there is no way we can keep
doubling the population and keep feeding everyone. The number of huge
cities in the world is a set up for a major outbreak of "fill in the blank".
NYC was the big gun, now it's just one of many, and is no longer even close to
being the biggest. And NYC has better water and sewer than almost all of them.
Ebola isn't that big of threat. it manifests so quickly that it easy to spot.
Show me one that takes longer to show symptoms with the same mortality rate.
That's the one that's going to wipe out the big numbers of people.

Not to be a conspiracy theorist but...

Why in the hell would you bring an incurable disease to US soil?

The only answer I can think of is... Because they want to... Time to take back our government.

I have to disagree with that...for a few reasons.

It is true that mass amounts gather in big cities. Why ? That's where the bucks are, the best jobs, that's where status lies, the biggest variety of goods and services. An easier lifestyle with anything you want that can be delivered to your door...anything is a short distance away. We are sold on the idea that to succeed, you need to be in the big city.

The worlds population while growing, still has room. Awhile back, they did the math, the entire world population could fit in the state of Texas. Maybe not true today, so for the sake of argument, I'll give you Texas and Wyoming. Here in the U.S.A., government is the biggest land owner. Why is that ? Control....plain and simple. Add to all this many land masses are off limits due to preservation, lack of modern conveniences such as clean water and industry to support ones self, or environmental issues. Lets not forget crazies either in control of mass amounts of land such as the middle east.

We can feed the population and technology has a place when it comes to yields per acre, but we need to stop kissing the butts of big corporate farmers and take the boot off the neck of the family farm.

Have you noticed by chance that most viruses originate in Africa ? Probably one of the least populated continents. Poor Sanitary conditions, lack of fresh clean water, lack of healthcare, and poor immune systems due to lack of a proper diet is a breeding ground for disease. Early Europe used to be that way and many a disease wiped out millions....until they maintained clean sanitary conditions and provided clean water.

Africa is a sticking point for me. Of all the aid we bring, all the blank checks countries write, nobody gives a rats behind really. They could care less if they live or die as long as the oil keeps coming, the diamond mines keep producing, and the elite can go on Safari to bag some big game. If we really want to help those people, and lower the risk of worldwide viruses, they need clean water and sanitary living conditions. They need companies to invest and bring jobs.

Most the smaller nations that make up Africa are run by these little tyrants who take the money and deposit it for themselves in various European and South American banks while keeping the masses in poverty. Sooner or later, someone has to step in and take over these countries not only for their benefit, but the rest of the planets. Toppling one dictator for another does nothing. With a weakened America, you see Russia making advances, you see China making advances in the south China sea and also investing heavily in Africa. You see the Muslim extremists advancing in northern Africa into the eastern Mediterranean. Believe me, you will see a land grab there by all the big guns.

What are we doing ? Playing Golf and giving speeches to college kids in-between fundraisers. We have opened our southern borders for political reasons putting everyone at a higher risk. We bring incurable diseases here to study when clearly other safer alternatives exist. We are shrinking our military at a time when others have been building theirs and the world is turned on it's ear.

Ebola....just another small piece in a larger puzzle.

One correction. As far as FLU viruses. Most originate in HIGH DENSITY population areas like Asia. If you've ever ridden the trains in India or in China during the New Year festival you have 100s of millions of people, packed TIGHTLY, hacking an coughing and passing whatever they have or are incubating into the atmosphere. It is a RECIPE for VIRAL mutation. I've seen the Chinese model first hand and fallen ill myself during that time a while back.

South of the Border stuff is somewhat paranoid, since as you point out yourself, a lot of the crazy stuff is African, and I add Asian born. Don't confuse illegals with viral outbreaks. They are separate problems. I know it makes us "feel" good when we can put EVERYTHING that scares us into ONE BAG. lol

As far as cities vs. the countryside. That does NOT work either. The main reason is that growing cities in the developing world are mostly surrounded by shanty towns, barrios, etc. Even a highly developed city like Beijing (the center of Chinese power), has over 10 million illegals (in their terms people who are CHINESE but from the countryside with no legal papers for residing in Beijing) living in the outer rings of the city. With lower standards and conditions. The history of the development of the city also documents such SQUALOR in the early days of urban development in both EUROPE and the U.S.! Our own history of industrial revolution and urban development was pretty NASTY stuff! And not the purist progressive model economists like to "fantasize" about. lol

Gotta call total bs on this statement. Global population is not the problem when the entire 7 billion humans on the planet could all be given a ten thousand square foot house and a half acre of land and still not cover every square inch of land west of the Mississippi.

The problem is that there are far too many places where mankind has their basic human right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness denied to them. We need to stop handing out wheat, flour and fish and start teaching these people to care for themselves.

Whoever the dumbass was that decided to bring this virus to the mainland needs to spend the night with the infected as a means to allow the rest of to be rid of their stupidity. It's going to be a hard sell to convince me that a remote island supplied with whatever medical apparatus needed wouldn't have been a better idea. I am still trying to digest the stupidity actually as I was previously unaware that people were actually that brain-effin-dead!

Not unlike the border issue...if people feel the need to support an out of country atrocity then let them lead the fight by housing and caring for the affected....somewhere else!
    Too much **** to list....

Do you folks realize that certain food, medical supplies, etc. are sterilized with gamma radiation. Food sterilization using gamma rays is used in more than 60 countries for various foods. If you wear contact lenses, use gauze bandages, put spices on your food from countries outside the US and many other products have been sterilized with gamma radiation. Gamma radiation kills bacteria, viruses, etc. without compromising the quality of the product.

If the dairy and poultry industry would endorse and use gamma in their products, salmonella would almost disappear. Over 40,000 people per year are afflicted with salmonella.

According to the article, the dead passenger tested negative for Ebola. But as long as we let air traffic in and out of Africa, it could happen.

They already have samples of every strain of Ebola.
And Uncle Sam has a lot of much nastier stuff already in weapons
form, just like the old USSR. No, it's mostly a political stunt.
Marburg Germany had an outbreak of Ebola's less lethal variant
in the 60's. Modern medicine can handle and isolate this just fine.
But the 3rd world can't, which is where stuff like this rages.
The large number of high density cities with lousy cleanliness pretty
much means that something is going to hit hard somewhere and wipe out millions.
As far as population growth, I stick with the obvious.
A quick look at numbers and graphs of the population growth are enough.
I'm not a tree hugging green freak. But unless the trend breaks, we are in trouble.
The problem is very real in a lot of 3rd world countries, and sooner or later
is going to affect us. Here in the U.S. the growth isn't as great, with immigrants
    accounting for must of it.

Many good points here, i just have to say that watching news footage of those very sick folks folks in the filthy conditions in their home countries laying in makeshift rooms holding their dirty feet up as people in hazmat suits spray them down and watching as someone stands outside in their hazmat suit reading instructions from a piece of paper only reminds me of how blessed i and mine have been.

Theres no telling how long those blessings will continue, but after a lifetime of taking so much for granted, I can now say, at this stage of my life,I am finally fully aware of how fortunate i have been to be an american in the american century.

I could not agree more with your sentiment Scotty. As much as we have been reviled in recent years, there is still much more to be thankful for. I am not saying that the American way is the best way, but I cannot help but think that if many parts of the rest of the world were more like us, I think many places would be much better off.

You know this for a fact ? Every KNOWN strain maybe, but when your talking a virus that can mutate into other strains, the possible variations are endless.

Think the flu...there are still strains mutating we don't know about yet and too many to treat everyone for every strain. Luckily it is not as deadly as Ebola but could you imagine Ebola in as many strains as the flu ?

Look...whats the number one rule in treating infectious diseases ? CONTAINMENT !! That's why we have people go to where the outbreak is...not fly them around the world for treatment. Same at our southern border, we are putting unknowns with god knows what on planes and busses and dropping them in various cities across the country. This is a tutorial in how to spread disease, not avoid or contain it. The stupidity is mind boggling.....and if it's from not being dumb as a box of rocks, then the only other conclusion you can draw is that it's being done on purpose. Either way....everyone in this country is put at risk.

Corrections my good friend.... Since your bringing up China and high density populations. The flu Virus most likely doesn't originate in dense populations but it's the perfect vehicle to spread like wildfire. China is a unique place with it's own set of problems unique to itself and culture. Try crossing into China with no documentation of who you are or what your health is ? Doubt you'd get a free ride to anywhere inside.

The southern border problem is not a mixing everything into one bag trick. It's a simple fact that we know nothing of these people or health of these people and what they can possibly bring in the door. Can you deny that simple fact ? The people that want to turn it into a one trick pony are the ones using the border for political means. Take that out and use some common sense and logic, as we were all taught I'm assuming, and the answers become quit clear.

I'm not saying we can stop every infectious disease from coming here, but why on earth would we make it easier ? You tell me...

The flood of illegal immigration has brought us back bed bugs, TB, and other nasties we had eradicated.
And the fact we trade and travel to all corners of the globe on a regular basis means more to come.
These two items are FAR more dangerous than bringing back an Ebola patient. Add to the fact we think
illegally importing exotic pets is a good idea, I'm sure there are plenty of stuff in the ol' worry closet.

    The flood...lol

Fact is we don't know what they are carrying and just because they enter at our southern border doesn't mean they are from nearby countries as the article states.

Ever hear the expression...."An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure", should that not apply here? Both with Ebola and at our borders ?

A good example of this would be the Aids virus. Unless you know people who died from it, eh....no big deal ? Until preventional practices were put into place did we subdue that virus from spreading. Do we have to wait for someone you know to die before we implement an ounce of prevention ?

Granted, Ebola is spread by bodily secretions, blood, saliva, ****, it is not airborne as far as we know. Even after the virus is under control, by that I mean has stopped multiplying in your body, it can still be transferred to another by **** up to 7 weeks later. Someone going to make sure this dude doesn't have unprotected sex for 2 months after he's released ? Will they keep him locked up for that period of time ? Hmmm....they don't tell you that.

It's not a matter of filling a box with stuff to worry about. It's a matter of stupidity on a level that makes people worry. Stupidity on a level that puts lots of others at risk for no reason. If we had any sort of confidence in the powers at be, nobody would worry, unfortunately that's not the case today.

You can also, on another angle, follow the money. By bringing these 2 Ebola patients here, you incite fear. The FDA has already broken it's own rules to rush some sort of cure to market. Whats the rush if these 2 will be contained as they say ? Once that fear takes hold, and someone leaks the possibility of one of these 2 patients infecting the general public, there will be a rush to get an Ebola shot. One thing I have learned in my years is never underestimate the powers of fear and greed.

The border issue was also one of fear, incite the general public to promote action, to promote one political party to take action desired by another. The spreading of infectious diseases by opening the border is just a side benefit...but still serves the purpose of inciting fear. I won't even touch the human trafficking part or exploitation of children being done. This to me, is about as despicable as it gets.

Chemtrails...lol, I think that one is a stretch. I mean we have some conspiracy theories, then we have some conspiracy theories that give conspiracy theories a bad name. I think the chemtrails theory is one such conspiracy.

Back to Ebola and other infectious diseases,

Up until now, as far as I can tell anyway, the Ebola virus has only existed within our borders in labs, in test tubes. Having a human host willfully brought here, is very irrational in my book. Has anyone ever given any thought, since this virus is transferred by blood...bodily fluids, about the #1 way to transfer this thing around ? I'm talking about that pesky blood sucker, the mosquito.

Just heard on our local news a patient in new york has been put in isolation suspected to also be suffering from ebola.

That reminded me of something i heard on a news discussion show last night just before falling aslep that 2 people had self isolated after becoming ill and being told they may have it.

Again, this was on a discussion show, not hard news, but the ny patient was a news item, but no details, as its still an early story

Plane travel has been the method of delivery in a lot of plague movies. It would not surprise me if cases start showing up in major cities here.

Well, if the virus can stay in you for 3 weeks before you exhibit any symptoms, that's plenty of time for the mosquito to spread it around. Plenty of time for people unknowingly having sex to pass it around.... even just swapping spit.

But if no human hosts were here to begin with....hello, then we wouldn't have to worry much. If we knew what was crawling over our borders, we wouldn't have to worry much either.

The CDC is NOT screening people from African nations coming here ? There's that ounce of prevention thing again.

I am surprised that it hasn't happened that when you voice your opinion regarding screening or not allowing flights from infected nations that you don't get shouted down for being a racist.
