Comment and a question.
Every year my wife and daughter do that “horrible” early morning holiday shopping thing with a group of ladies “usually 10 in the group”. I just spoke to my wife and 5 or 6 of those ladies have decided not to go this year due to the ebola thing and don’t want to go to a mall packed with people.

2 of the ladies/family have decided not to go visit their relatives this year also, evidently “don’t want to get on a plane.” Just curious if anyone else has encountered this?

BTW, I did that early morning shopping thing once. Never again!

Now that we know that regular hospitals are not equipped and trained to deal with the outbreak:

There are really only about 8 -19 "level 4" bio-containment beds available in the US in 4 locations for 317,000,000 people.

Yeah I read that too... This guy Frieden is another government hack and needs to be fired today. His (non)answers to direct questions on the Hill today would justify that. Why would the CDC and NIH not support a travel ban? BTW is was called out that most African countries don't allow entry from Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea because of the ebola pandemic in those countries.

From my understanding... unless all countries worldwide ban travel from Liberia then a US only travel ban would not help, and it would actually be worse. With a ban, travelers will still find a way to get to the US - through Europe or Asia. Then they can simply lie about there original travel location. Instead if you keep travel open then you can do quick physicals in Liberia (or surrounding countries) and also another screening once in the US. If things get bad you could also implement a temporary quarantine of passengers to the US. You also have an accurate list of travelers that you can track down in the event someone shows any signs. With a ban you don't have this level of control.

Just for your edification, there are no direct flights from any of the West African countries in question currently coming in to the US ; and thank you for repeating the ridiculous excuse the government is using. All passengers come in on connections... But we did stop cubans from coming in by not allowing them to board flights in other countries and we used to stop soviets and chinese.... How come we can't do that now? By that logic every store owner should just leave the front and back door of their stores open and just catch the thieves from the video surveillance cams the next day.

It is as simple as the State Department issuing an official ban that says nationals of those 3 countries cannot even buy a ticket to the United States.

Just like the no fly list that exists today, it just has to have the logic turned on to say if country of passport holder equals Liberia, Sierra Leone or Guneia NO FLY.

Obviously you need to allow American passport holders back in but they need to be subject to the same quarantine that the Military serving in those countries will be subject to.

You can't get on a plane without a ticket...

Good points Mr BBL... You know what I can't understand? Weren't we told that "if" you came in contact with bodily fluids of an ebola victim that making sure you wash with soap and water would decontaminate you? Am I to believe that the nurses who contracted it who came in contact with the virus after removing their protective garments didn't wash thoroughly with soap and water? Something doesn't quite pass the smell test there so to speak.

And truth be told.. do you really believe they (the Govt)can keep track of 150 people a day coming in to the country when they couldn't keep track of 2 nurses? If you believe that, there is a bridge with your name on it. And look at the **** show created by the one nurse getting on a domestic flight... How many other people could this possibly infect?

Good point, just like your suppose to believe they can keep track of 60,000 illegal kids so far this year alone. Seriously....anyone believe these fairytales ?

This is what happens when you put at the top position someone with no leadership experience, then appoints like minded individuals to other positions of power. You get a 3 ring circus of incompetence and you have to drag them kicking and screaming to do the right thing.

The other day, the Military announced that the troops coming back from the infected areas will be screened or quarantined. The next day, President announces he will send National Guard troops there, of which he has control over. For what purpose do we need national guard people there when we have a whole military with hundreds of thousands of boots ? Seems to me a little power struggle is going on between the executive branch and the military.

IMHO, the CDC is violating it's own protocols, but the CDC chief takes his directives from higher up. He's just being used as the punching bag at the moment during an election cycle. Obama in 2008 btw, rejected all of the CDC's recommendations.

The CDC has a job to do, and their budget should go towards doing that job, not social engineering or sidewalks....studying drunk monkeys and fat lesbians. This is yet another example of what we mean by a bloated government. This is how your tax dollars vanish into thin air. We have more than enough money to run the country, we just don't prioritize the spending. The CDC is just one agency too, multiply that by a thousand for wasteful spending and it adds up. Could probably cut the budget in half. You'll never see it though if you keep electing like minded individuals.

Everything runs hand in hand, far more than we can get into in this thread. Think about a business that runs like a well oiled machine that you know. Every aspect of that business has the proper attention payed to it. The difference being of course is that a business needs to make money, government doesn't. If we held their feet to the fire and demanded they live within a budget, lots of things would change. Sad to say though, everyone in this country is drunk on free money, which spells doom.

I actually think our gov't IS that evil minded. However one side isn't any better or worse than the other. They are BOTH crooks and lying POS. Yes I do know that some 50,000 people a year die from complications of influenza; pneumonia being the largest killer. Influenza it self kills less than 1% of it's victims. Many of the victims who die from complications unfortunately are children the elderly and in poor health.

Ebola is different. It is estimated that it will kill 70% of it's victims. It is also estimated that 10% of the healthcare professionals working with ebola victims will contract the virus and 56% of them are likely to die.

There is a lot of confusion and propaganda being flung about, and it is my nature to call Bravo Sierra when I hear it.

So when some bureaucrat tells me allowing travel from ebola ravaged countries doesn't need to be suspended or quarantines aren't needed, I will point them to the history of the 14th century where a single ship from the Crimea brought the bubonic plague from Asia and decimated 25% of europe's population. My comparison is that Bubonic Plague and Ebola have something in common... There is/was no cure. There are actual studies available that theorize that contrary to the popular theory that the plague came from fleas on rats that it actually was a variant of ebola.

It is not my purpose to "fan the flames of hysteria" but to hold conversations and to listen to other peoples point's of view.

Unfounded talking points such as " budget cuts are the cause of this outbreak" really strike a nerve with me and many others and if you are going to say it you have every right to.... I respect your opinion but you in kind also need to respect other opinions; Don't say that because my point of view is different than what you think that this "discourse is unproductive" and we should in effect need to be shut up. We need to be able to have conversations, some of them tough, some more intelligent than others, but you nor I should be judgmental of other's opinions. Debate is healthy and is one of the foundations of our freedom in our great country. The right to dissent is also something that our founding fathers guaranteed us to protect us from tyranny. No one's dissent should be shouted down as unproductive or mean or racist or any of the other tags that seem to be popular these days.
