I've been through many power outages that have lasted several days since I moved to MA. I run a generator during the day but turn it off for 6-8 hours at night. The house doesn't get that cold during this short period. It also gives the generator a rest, and conserves gas. Got a neighbor who doesn't though, but he's about 200 feet away so it's just soft white noise inside my house. Still, people are simply not courteous enough to tough it out for a few night hours.

Mantis, i hope everyone there is safe & get their power on asap. No fun being without it.
    ..
I myself love cold weather. I snowblowed my driveway tonight-then got a cup of coffee & sat outside for 30 more mins enjoying the view of snow on the tree's & the cool fresh 25 degree temps :)

Snowed here for 20 hours yesterday. 12 inches total. I spent a few hours snowblowing mine and 3 neighbors driveways. High today was 9. Tomorrow morning could be 19 below. It's the damn extreme cold that I hate. My next move is definately Anywhere in Florida.

Weather patterns have been changing for a BILLION years before we came along and will continue to change for a billion years after we are long gone from this planet. It was considerably warmer 100,000 years ago, and considerably colder 20,000 years ago than it has been over the past 300 years, and only half of that span covers the industrial age. To say that mankind is responsible for global warming is the height of arrogance IMHO, especially because the warming observed for 3o years or so just happens to coincide with increased output from the Sun. That is the source of global warming... always has been, and until it becomes a burnt out cinder in 5 Billion years, it always will be...

Wind chill tonight is below -35 degrees in Denver.
Horribly cold. My furnace is running all day.
I was out cleaning side walk for not even 5 minutes and my lips are all messed up.
This winter, we have quite a few below 0 days.
I don't think we had this kind of weather since I moved to Denver in 2009.

We were in San Antonio, TX. this past week, where it was colder than it was in New Jersey the day of the Super Bowl, something not right about that. Changing weather patterns for sure.

Yawn........I don't feel bad for any of you Just like I'm sure Janmike doesn't feel bad for us in southern Canada. Just the way it is.
Don't get me wrong I hate the winter, actually I hate anything -15C. I also hate freezing rain which we gets lots of around here. One day it's 8C next day -35C flash freeze, streets are skating rinks. We have received over 150cms of snow so far. I don't mind the snow, probably due the owning a snowblower. It's the freezing cold and freezing rain I can't stand. But whereever people choose to move there is always something.

Yeppers....people in the south complain in the summer when they can roast nuts on the driveway. When it's cold, you can at least find ways to get warm. When it's hot, it's much harder to cool down.

You should've used a snow blower or a snow shovel instead of your lips. Lips aren't made to take that kind of abuse!

We seemed to avert disaster with this latest storm here in CT. It was just warm enough so that after the snow ended and the rain began, it fell to the ground as water and didn't cling to the trees and power lines as ice. Of course, it got colder as the day progressed and now there is plenty of ice on the ground, but trees and power lines didn't come down near me as happened elsewhere.

I timed the driveway perfectly with this storm. Tuesday night I checked the weather and it said the snow was supposed to turn to rain and freezing rain at 9am. But at 6:45am we started hearing the clicking sounds on the windows, so I rushed right out with the snow thrower and cleared about 9" of snow off the driveway. If I had waited until 9am it would have been brutal. I threw down a layer of ice melt after I cleared the snow, and my driveway is completely fine today. Others weren't so lucky, and now have a thick layer of heavy, crusty, icy mess to clear.

8 days until pitchers and catchers!

Yeah it's cold but I am more afraid of all this snow. I am not looking forward to spring and hope we get a cold one in order to slow down the thaw. Could be a lot of flooding.

especially because the warming observed for 3o years or so just happens to coincide with increased output from the Sun.

Now thats just crazy talk. You can't truely think the sun affects the temperature here on the Earth. And besides, global warming doesn't mean the globe is warming, it means the globe is cooling. And even though it is cooling it is still a billion degrees just below the surface. Do you not know anything??

....also crazy to think the sun's inactivity coincides with colder climate patterns such as we see now. It is however nice to know that we can offset the massive amounts of energy the sun produces by using different light bulbs, wind farms, and electric cars. Also extremely crazy to believe if you give enough money to the right people...that they can control what the Sun does.

We're having the opposite problem here in the NW. Been unseasonably dry and mountain snowpack is about 50% of normal. Water supplies for this summer are a concern if we don't get some more late winter/early spring snow.

27 snowfalls this year so the weather man says 21 nights with below 0 temps. Yep the cold sucks I don't mind the snow except when you got to shovel a place for the ice hut on the lake the ice is 13 inches thick on a normal winter it is usually around 8 inches.

It's been a really tough one here in Ohio. I used to love winter when I skied, and made a pact with myself that when my son was born I would stay in shape to be able to keep up with him in the moguls until he was 18. He surpassed me when he was 17, is now 19, my knees are but gone, and winter now officially sucks (-:!

I am still trying to get my head around how global warming is causing this cooling trend we are in... I have read all the explanations... Man this complicated science stuff is too much for me and my itty bitty brain to comprehend.
Not to worry. Even the so called experts, with huge, giant brains can't comprehend it either. That's why they fudge the numbers to make their climate models appear to work.
