San Francisco offensive coordinator Greg Roman said the 49ers intentionally didn't use the Pistol in the season finale against Arizona and barely used it against Seattle in the previous game. The goal of the formation is to play shotgun without showing any tendencies, which forces the defense to protect more of the field. Throw in all the read-option running ability of Kaepernick and you have a nightmare for a defense.

The logic in your original comment towards me was flawed, and then you made a snide comment on top of that accusing me of lowering my expectations for SF so that I'd somehow feel better if they lost. Let's take those each separately:
1 - You're saying my miracle comment was invalid because the experts basically had them favored. Well, those same experts also had Denver highly favored, so clearly those guys aren't always right. Perhaps the term miracle was too strong on my part, and had I known someone was going to respond the way you did I'd perhaps have chosen a different word. But the intent is the same, I thought GB was going to win that game and I didn't think it would be close. Had I read the article you linked previously I may have had a different thought going in, but I"m not an expert and don't spent time breaking down film. All I can go on is what I see week over week, and in the last few weeks of the season they looked inconsistent to me and particularly bad against Seattle a couple games ago. To be clear, I think alot of the 49ers and their defense, I just had a bad feeling going into that game even though they'd beat GB earlier in the season.
2 - Your assertion that I stated or thought that because it was make the loss less painful is completely off base. I've spent the better part of the last decade rooting for a BAD 49ers team AND rooting for a good Indianapolis team, and it's always much more fun rooting for a team you think has a better chance of winning the game. Maybe your brain works like that, mine doesn't.
If you just wanted to argue against my perception of the 49ers chances of winning and have a civil discussion that's fine, it's when you make it personal where things break down.

I was happy to see Atlanta win that game, for a couple reasons.
- First and foremost, I genuinely believe that my 49ers have a better chance against Atlanta even though they have to go on the road.
- Secondly, if the 49ers do lose that NFC Championship game, then I'd like to see Atlanta be the one in the super bowl. I'm not an Atlanta fan or anything, but would like to see Tony Gonzalez with a chance at a ring before he goes out. It would be cool to see him or Ray Lewis end their career with a ring (although I think NE is the clear favorite coming out of the AFC) -

I was thinking, given how close that game was, if that had been played in Seattle I think it would have been a blowout by the Seahawks. That's why you win all those games during the regular season and get home field in advantage.

As a New England boy, I must say that the Ravens are "surging" and set for an upset of the Pats next week. Well, not really an upset since I really do believe the Ravens are the better team at this point. They're playing a full 60 minutes while N.E. is still fooling around "early" and inviting teams to jump ahead of them, then HOPING that Brady does NOT get intercepted or sacked too many times! NOT a good strategy. N.E. defense is jelling but needs a few more weeks or even another season to peak whereas the Ravens "D" is there already!
I just don't see how the Brady bunch is going to contain Baltimore and manage to keep the Ravens OFF Tom? Remember, they almost won last year!
As for Atlanta. Can't see them beating San Fran. Should be a good game.
My prediction: San Francisco vs. Baltimore.
Tough one to call, there! Depends on how "high" Baltimore is, if Baltimore is the Giants of THIS YEAR or not? The one thing we can say about the Niners (mostly) is "consistency"!
