What is it going to take to stop all the bitching about the TSA in the media....oh, I know. Another a@@hole to take down an aircraft over American soil...that should do it. If you don't like it, don't fly. Getting on an airplane is like driving a car...its not a right, its a privledge. Yes, as to be expected, a government agency did a terrible job of communicating the new procedures before the fact, and explaining why they were implemented. Funny how the largest, by far, Governement Agency (Dept. of Homeland Security, which includes the TSA) was created overnight after 9/11, and nobody bitched about the size and scope of this multi-billion dollar agency at the time.

Actually, that should INCREASE the bitching, sinc eit means all these "safety procedures" accomplish exactly NOTHING.

Since its inception, the TSA has spent roughly 40 BILLION dollars. After a recent audit of security procedures, Homeland Security's Inspector General, Richard Skinner, said "The ability of TSA screeners to stop prohibited items from being carried through the sterile areas of the airports fared no better than the performance of screeners prior to September 11, 2001."

Reactionary and simple-minded people see a need for increased security, and just assume that EVERYTHING done in the name of that is fair game. People who actually have the capacity for rational thought understand that there are effective ways to do things, and then there are just gross injustices that accomplish nothing but placating the aforementioned group of morons.

Umm, that would mean all of this theater wasn't working.

Furthermore, if airlines want to have their own private security and do all of these things, fine. Alas, its the federal government. Private companies would never be pulling this crap. They'd be efficient and practical.

Young male Muslims carry box cutters on to planes -- Everyone needs to be searched for sharp objects.

Young male Muslims carry liquid explosive on to planes -- Everyone needs to be limited to 3oz of liquids, such as shampoo.

Young male Muslims pack bombs in their dookie drawers and on to planes -- Everyone needs to be groped to get on a plane (or go through invasive scanners).

Seems we're missing the obvious common denominator. Young male Muslims.

Of course, in our hypersensitive society we're not going to employ any brainpower here. We're going to make sure we don't potentially hurt the feelings of any young male Muslims who are fine, upstanding citizens...or catch the ones that aren't!

You forget that hurting their feelings is why they are "lashing out" at us in the first place. Perhaps if we bow to them and humbly submit ourselves to their will... maybe they won't hurt us anymore.

If any one should be offended it is definitely the ones who fit the profile -- however that anger ought to be directed at those who caused the profile to exist in the first place. Before I bought my current home I leased a condo from one such gentlemen...it was refreshing to hear him speak out with more ferocity at those people than I have ever mustered. Unfortunately, he's an anomaly in that he actually used his voice. He lost 2 loved ones on 9/11.

The only land lord I ever had give me a Christmas (used the word, even!) card and nice bottle of wine every year, too.

You can actually relate this to trying to rent an apartment as a college-aged kid. I remember me and all of my nerdy, but mostly well-behaved friends trying to find off-campus housing during college, and having to deal with being "profiled" because we fit the outline of the type of people who would DESTROY an apartment. We weren't pissed at the landlords for trying to get ridiculous security deposits, we were pissed at all the stereotypical douchebag frat boys who came before us.

Who pays for the TSA? It should be directly added to the ticket cost. If flying is not a right, no one should have to pay not to fly.

Pilots and now flight attendants can skip scanners.

Next it will be the janitors and the fast food employees. How hard do you think it is to get one of these jobs? How hard is it to become a TSA agent even??

Ah... the sweet sweet illusion of safety.

In the state of Arizona they give their police officers the discretion to ask the legal status of someone they pull over. Our federal government has had an absolute conniption fit over that.

However, the very same federal government says its more than OK for the TSA to take scans showing you in the buff or fondle you in order to get on an airplane.

    Huh....

It's the whiny sniveling special interest groups with their stupid "but it's not fair" argument going to Washington to beg the liberals to do something about it that causes many of these problems, like the one in Arizona. Our constitution makes no provision for illegal aliens in this country, but if we if we profile for hispanic individuals that don't speak english it's profiling and "it's not fair". If we kick them out "it's not fair". If we screen young Muslim males more carefully than some red haired freckled girl from Iowa, It's profiling, and "it's not fair".

    Common sense to be common.

I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

My point was...do people actually want NO screening before getting on an airplane??? And if there was no screening, and then another plane went down, then everyone would be too SCARED to do any bitching about the screening, just as FEAR played such a huge role on the public mindset post 9/11....now we are stuck with the largest government agency ever.
I guess the common sense solution to all these terrible infringements on my rights as an American is to not allow young Muslims to fly at all. Just think of the cost savings alone!
