You have to profile Steve. Lets break it down. Why do we need these proceedures in the first place ? Safety concerns, correct ? From who ? Terrorists, or Grandma and Grandpa taking their grandkids to Disney land ? Terrorist I gather. Who are they ? You look at every attempt, they have been of middle east decent. Did the Swede's try and blow up or hijack airplanes ? Nope. The Germans, the Japanese ? Nope. How about the Italians, Mexicans, Canadians ? Nope. You have to identify the criminals first rather than assume everyone is a suspect. I admit some level of security measures are needed for all, but it gets to be alittle over the top when you can't even Identify the terrorist to begin with. I used Isreal as an example earlier. A country planted in an area of surrounding countries that want nothing more than to wipe them off the planet. Yet their air security is second to none. Sure, they have nowhere near the amount of flights per day that we do, but they know who the enemy is, they profile accordingly. Plus they have x military people doing it. Not some 10 buck an hour moron the TSA hires. To top that off the TSA is positioning itself to become a union, go figure. As an American citizen, I don't feel we need to give up our freedoms for security, we just need to identify and go after those who would do us harm.

Well, unfortunately, this is the same kind of actions that stir up the problem in the first place. The United States is a home to everybody, basically of people from all over the world. There are people here who would never even think of hurting anybody else, yet they are screened because of their ethnic origin. I view this only as a form of racism. I don't mean to single you out, it's just a rhetorical question, but how many times have you walked into an airport and feared whether they were going to single you out and search you?

You are correct to state that people come here from all over the world. I would submit to you that for them to come here and not respect the rule of law, our customs and our way of life is tanamount to an invasion. Embrace America as your own and you are my brother, sister, my friend, and I will gladly see my blood spilled on the battlefield to ensure that you can live free. Do not, and you are my enemy and I will use any means to expell you from these shores and back where you came from. This is the attitude that prevents terror at home, not scans of grandma and cavity searches of a child. I personally do not care if you are black, white, purple, pink or blue, and I do not care what faith you are either.

Let's face some cold, hard facts... A three year old girl has yet to be caught with a bomb in her pampers, and Grandma has yet to storm a cockpit with her walker. On the other hand, 20 year old men screaming for Allah have, and it is exactly because of their actions that we have lost our most precious blood to fight two wars, not to mention the tragedy itself of 9/11.

Every sacrifice made since has been to protect our freedoms and our way of life, but at every turn we surrender more to an ever intrusive nanny state that won't let us stub our toe without a neurosurgeon on call to stitch it back up. 99.99999999% of the American public is paying a heavy price for the .00000001% that want to see us cower in fear. If we don't reclaim our freedoms SOON, then the terrorists won when the towers fell and we just haven't figured that out yet.

I have a great idea... maybe each household needs to have it's own TSA agent residing in the home, and strip-search each family member when they leave the house. Then security cameras can be placed inside every means of conveyance, Bicycles, cars... everything. These measures, combined with satellite tracking of everyone and security cameras every hundred yards or so should protect us all. Would'nt it be great to live in a land where even taking a **** is a matter of national security???

Sigh...Take my point and run the wrong way with it; there you go.

I was just stating that profiling doesn't work. And if we use profiling as a primary filter, the terrorists are that much more likely to increase recruiting of disillusioned white folk.

I don't believe that the crap we go through at the airport (and I do travel somewhat regularly for work) is really helping THAT much in the end, and I think the "take off your shoes, take off your belt, do the hokey pokey" portion of the security check is flat annoying.

I'm actually for less government than we currently have, not more. Your ridiculous exxageration does not represent the point I was trying to make or what I believe in.

Is it just me or are we misplacing so much security emphasis on commercial air travel? I think the main take away from 9/11 was efforts to prevent complete takeover of a large commercial aircraft. Flying large planes into large buildings is a big deal. As callous as it sounds, I don't think someone placing explosives on their body and getting on a plane is much of a security concern. The damage and loss of lives in such a situation is small compared to what a terrorist could do with much less effort in other ways not directly related to air travel.

I don't know, it just seems to me that we got some kind of irrational thought process that commericial air travel is the biggest security gap we have with respect to terrorism, when it seems to me there are much much bigger gaps in other areas that we are ignoring or at least not placing as much emphasis on.

Your point seemed to be targeted more at disenfranchised "white" people, and I take offense to that. It is NOT about race, yet you seem to need to make that case. I don't see whites hanging around at polling places on election day scaring off voters as the Black Panthers have been known to do as recently as two weeks ago. And these security checks at airports are only enraging those of the Muslim faith because they are so very intrusive, particularily towards a shrouded woman.

I ask you to provide one single shred of proof that "right wing militia types" are trying to thwart airport security so they can crash a jet or two. Their target of choice is specifically the government, and the bigger it gets, the more likely they are to strike out against it.

Your understanding of the militia movement and those that are a part of it is short-sighted at best.

Agreed Ben... 100 people with backpacks in crowded shopping malls was just one scenario that was floated about during the first Post 9/11 holiday season... There are so many more insidious ways to strike where the targets are easy and the pyscological effects would be far more devastating.

Lots of smaller attacks spread out will scare many more people. I think that we don't have to worry too much though. I am not saying drop our defenses, but we haven't had anything really fallow trough since 911. I am more nervous about 12-12-2012. We made it through Y2K no problem. I slept through that "scare".

    Good mornin'.

People have always said the apocalypse is nigh. They've always been wrong. Notice how no one ever says "the apocalypse is in 3000 years!" It's always next year, or soon enough. No one had ever heard of 2012 until a few years ago, because someone got rich peddling books and then a movie about it. That's it. A marketing ploy. Just like pretty much all hokus pokus out there, it's all about the Benjamins.

And I'm not taking about you this time, ben. ;)

There are some neat astrological coincidences happening that day from waht I've read, something that happens every 13,000 years or so, so it's impressive that the Mayans figured it out so long ago, and as a society so based on astrological things it's not surprising they would put credence in such a coincidence.... but the planet has been here 4 billion years (unless your'e Christian) and humanoids maybe 200,000 years, so a 13,000 year cycle really isn't THAT big fo a deal, cosmically.

Nice job painting all Christians with the same brush. Some Christian religions (I know for a fact Roman Catholic) teach that the historical timeline of the old testament (especially in Genesis) is more mythology than fact. Now I conceed, that there are some elements of some religions that take all things in the Bible to be literal.

Yep, here it is. This is freakin disgusting! If I were her dad I would have beat the living **** out of the her (the wack job child molester). Heck, I may have done so if I were just standing in line. It looked like only her mother was there though.

When your default response to everything is "OMG, MAYBE/WHAT IF THEY'LL BE IN YOUR HOMES SOON" blah blah blah you lose the arguement. Every. Single. Time.

I travel every week and the whole system we have in place now is nothing more than a massive pain in the ****:
    1. Having to travel with 'travel size' of everything is idiotic
    2. taking shoes, jackets, etc off when we have a machine that's virtually strip searching you makes zero sense.
    3. Having someone put on a show of looking through a jewlers magnifier to view the details of my license is lame.
    4. Scanners that go off if you have a belt on, but not if you are wearing a watch are bass ackwards.
    5. People who go through security and still dont' know that you cannot carry your own liquids piss me off. Granted, the entire part about not allowing liquids to be scanned through is idiotic, because the same way that the beverages got to every damn restaurant inside the airport is exactly how i should be able to take my own drinks (through the scanners).

Sorry you missed the sarcasm in my post Brett. I was calling attention to the absurd by being absurd. Of course things will not become so intolerable. The idea behind my post was to make people think about just how slipery a slope we stand on when we allow our liberties to be taken from us slowly over time.

Twenty years ago, I would take a fishing pole to school so I could catch a few on my way home from school. Today, my tackle box would be seen as lethal weapons on campus and I would be removed from school, stand before a judge and get sent to Juvenille Hall. I would then spend six months being psycologically anal probed while my"normal" friends blew each other up playing GTA IV...Exactly where is the line, and just how much are we willing to tollerate before we say enough?

I think we are seeing that push-back beginning to take shape and I for one, welcome it. Finally the Sleeping Giant (the American People for those in Rio Linda:wink:) is beginning to stir from restful slumber...
