Once again one more reason the hiring process for TSA agents needs to be more strict.....
An Amarillo woman is suing the federal government for intentional infliction of emotional distress after Transportation Security Administration agents allegedly humiliated the woman when her **** were publicly exposed during an "extended search" two years ago at a Corpus Christi airport.

The suit, filed earlier this year in Amarillo's U.S. District Court, alleges the woman was singled out for "extended search procedures" while preparing to board an aircraft destined for Amarillo on May 29, 2008.

The Amarillo Globe-News has declined to identify the woman for privacy reasons.

"As the TSA agent was frisking plaintiff, the agent pulled the plaintiff's blouse completely down, exposing plaintiffs' **** to everyone in the area," the lawsuit said. "As would be expected, plaintiff was extremely embarrassed and humiliated."

The suit said the woman filed an administrative claim against the TSA, but the agency never responded, sparking the lawsuit.

The suit also claims that other TSA employees continued to joke and laugh about the incident for an extended period of time. The woman was distraught over the incident and left the screening area so an acquaintance could console her, the suit said.

When the woman re-entered the boarding area, employees once again began joking about the matter, the suit said.

"One male TSA employee expressed to the plaintiff that he wished he would have been there when she came through the first time and that 'he would just have to watch the video,'" the suit said.

The lawsuit claims, among other allegations, that federal employees were negligent and that employees intentionally caused the woman severe emotional distress by joking about the incident after the woman re-entered the airport screening area.

In court documents, government attorneys acknowledged that the woman went through secondary screening at a TSA checkpoint, but denied the suit's claims.

The woman's attorney, Jerry McLaughlin, said the woman, now a 23-year-old college student, believes TSA employees acted improperly after a female TSA agent pulled off the woman's top during the screening.

"It was kind of a bad situation. They didn't handle it correctly," he said. "One of our major complaints is that even after it occurred, they started making jokes about it."

Allison Sands, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney's Office, said the office does not comment on pending litigation.

Eh, some folks give up anything for the sometimes misplaced sense of security. However it is the world we live in and is a sign of the times....

I am sure the procedures have helped find many things we will never know about for our own good.

Just wish there was a better way to do it besides full body scans (which create a whole nother problem in and of themselves).

That and I dont want my junk touched by a stranger...:wink::biggrin:

You can apply that thought to alot of area's.

Since I don't fly much,an occasional vacation every now and then, I wonder with this new process if they wear plastic gloves. I imagine they would, but do they change them for every pat down ? Like nurses or doctors do ? If not, there's another potential problem on the horizon.

This airline security issue is a tough nut to crack. I don't know that I have a solution. We definitely need to step-up security, but how do you implement with minimal impact on personal freedoms? The big issue seems to be (at least the way I see it) fear that images scanned won't be immediately deleted, and there is concern over health issues and the x-ray process. The images issue should be simple enough by a software fix that as soon as the next image is done, the last one gets deleted. The potential health issue--that's a tough one. Of course, you can choose not to fly--easier said than done in some cases. We don't fly unless it's greater than 2,000 miles to our destination because we smoke, don't care for the (lack of) service, and generally hate the pricing games airlines like to play.

You have to profile Steve. Lets break it down. Why do we need these proceedures in the first place ? Safety concerns, correct ? From who ? Terrorists, or Grandma and Grandpa taking their grandkids to Disney land ? Terrorist I gather. Who are they ? You look at every attempt, they have been of middle east decent. Did the Swede's try and blow up or hijack airplanes ? Nope. The Germans, the Japanese ? Nope. How about the Italians, Mexicans, Canadians ? Nope. You have to identify the criminals first rather than assume everyone is a suspect. I admit some level of security measures are needed for all, but it gets to be alittle over the top when you can't even Identify the terrorist to begin with. I used Isreal as an example earlier. A country planted in an area of surrounding countries that want nothing more than to wipe them off the planet. Yet their air security is second to none. Sure, they have nowhere near the amount of flights per day that we do, but they know who the enemy is, they profile accordingly. Plus they have x military people doing it. Not some 10 buck an hour moron the TSA hires. To top that off the TSA is positioning itself to become a union, go figure. As an American citizen, I don't feel we need to give up our freedoms for security, we just need to identify and go after those who would do us harm.

Yeah, but what they do is go over to the middle east to train, adjust their look to fit in and then come back. They sure don't look like the average college kid when they come back.

I have troubled to Europe and Asia this past year. The security is still tight but the agents are WAY friendlier. They also don't dress like the gestapo. Except for the lines, it is an enjoyable experience. Contrast that in the US where they yell at you for no reason at all. I have been yelled at because I allowed 5 feet between me and the person in front of me in line.

I have been yelled at because I had a 4 oz bottle of toothpaste (wife bought it for my trip and I didn't check it out before hand). I know this breaks the rules but he could have told me kindly that it's not permitted and it has to be thrown out. The TSA guy didn't and treated me like a school boy disobeying the rules.

Once one of them asked me if I had any "weapons" in my checked baggage. He wanted to know because they had to do a routine manual screening before putting my bags through their X-ray machine. Since I know how easy these guys can flip-out I told him I had a pocket knife in my checked bags (perfectly legal to carry in checked bags). He said in an EXTREMELY sarcastic and belittling voice, "oohh, how scary". He didn't care and sent the bag through. I was just trying to be honest. He could have just been a little more professional and simply said, "thank you for telling me".

The experience with going through security is getting worse. It's getting to be way more invasive and big-brother-ish. I read more and more stories like the above and simply want to avoid flying ever again.

    Funny side note:
    WDBO Local News

Sanford Airport to opt out of TSA screening
The backlash continues over those new TSA screening measures, and now one Central Florida airport has decided to go with a private security screening firm.

Orlando Sanford International Airport has decided to opt out from TSA screening.

"All of our due diligence shows it's the way to go," said Larry Dale, the director of the Sanford Airport Authority. "You're going to get better service at a better price and more accountability and better customer service."

Dale says he will be sending a letter requesting to opt out from TSA screening, and instead the airport will choose one of the five approved private screening companies to take over.

Congressman John Mica, who's expected to lead the powerful Transportation Committee next year, says the TSA is crying out for reform.

"I think TSA is overstepping its bounds," said Mica.

Dale says, if all goes as planned, the private security firm could take over in about 12 months.

The TSA points out that even if an airport decides to use a private firm for security, the screeners still must follow TSA guidelines. That would include using enhanced pat-downs and the full-body scanners if they are installed at the airport.

Love the part about better customer service....hehehe

No, he just blew up some federal building, killing his fellow Americans in the process; that's all.

Just because he didn't use a plane for his method doesn't mean he couldn't have/ didn't consider it. Blowing off my example is silly on your part. ANYONE could be a threat. I'd bet dollars to donuts the terrorists are looking for ways to be less noticeable in America going forward; including recruiting a buncha jaded white people that are easily manipulated. Not to mention the various militias already here in the US with mostly just white folks as members...To discount that as a threat (including to our airlines) is short sighted/ lackluster.

I have a great idea... maybe each household needs to have it's own TSA agent residing in the home, and strip-search each family member when they leave the house. Then security cameras can be placed inside every means of conveyance, Bicycles, cars... everything. These measures, combined with satellite tracking of everyone and security cameras every hundred yards or so should protect us all. Would'nt it be great to live in a land where even taking a **** is a matter of national security???

Just pop a cialis (sp?) or viagra an hour or so before you go to the airport, and give the security guy 'that look' the entire time.

Granted, though, that this doesn't do any good for the woman filing the suit.
