Those "Americans" would gladly have given up their freedoms a long time ago, before any of this terrorism crap. People like Cathy above LIVE for crap like this. They spend their lives looking for things to be afraid of, and then looking for magical things to protect them.cfrizz wrote:What some of you refuse to see is that we live in a TOTALLY different world now, then 200+ years ago. They will do it overseas & they will do it right HERE as well.
Whether you like it or not, these are dangerous times that we live in. It is not going to hurt me the 2-3 times I fly a year to go through a scanner. Once done, I will be free to fly on to my destination.
Cathy, you may not care about it the two or three times a year you fly, but some people fly a lot more than that, and may not want to be irradiated or groped every other week. And some people just DO care. More than they care about the 1 in 100 MILLION chance that someone's going to take down their plane.
By the way, why planes? A car on the Golden Gate bridge or in the new tunnel under Boston with a bomb in the trunk would take out more people than an entire airliner coming down on top of a school. A commuter train badly enough derailed - same thing.
AND. AND. The lame "times have changed since the Constitution" crap is so so wrong. The Bill of RIghts is about BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS, those things don't change. And what do you think the 1700's and 1800's were? LIlacs and butterflies? The British during the American Revolution were worse terrorists than we know today, where do you think their fear of losing their rights came from? YOu're a black woman, I would think the idea of individual rights would actually strike a chord with you, and instead you're willing to just give them away for this charade. If you want to stand up & be a jerk to people who are simply doing their jobs & trying to keep ALL of us safe, go right ahead. I hope whoever you give a hard time to jacks you up for being a jerk, it's no less than what you deserve for being unreasonable.

You would be wrong Bobman. I wasn't up in arms about it at all. Like I said, I'm realistic enough to know that times have changed & changes are made at high up levels to address security issues.
I didn't make the changes, I can't stop the changes from being made, and I'm not going to make MY life difficult in a situation that I can't stop or change whether I like it or not.
If I get the opportunity to vote for a change I will do so. But in the meantime, I'm just going to comply with the rules and try not to stress the persons in these positions who are just doing their jobs.

If you don't give up your freedom willingly, you're a crackpot and your head is wrapped in aluminum foil. We don't need to call BS when we see it, we need to be complacent and passive like good little sheep. We should bend over and take it like an inmate, and do it with a smile. We don't know what's best for us, the government does. We need to ignore the Million gallons of blood our servicemen gave up in defense of our great nation and constitution. Only then can we have hope and change. Always try to remember that if something seems wrong to you, it's because the aluminum foil is wrapped too tightly around your head. Freedom just isn't worth it anymore, we need to be safe instead.
Get with the program Bob."They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."

That's the way I like to look at it. Nice to hear what other folks' opinions are, and why they think what they think. Even if they disagree with me; that's okay, too, because then I know they're wrong.
Bobman, the video you posted didn't, IMO, show a young lady getting molested. It showed, IMO, parents who have ZERO control over their child and prepared their young daughter extremely poorly for an event which was a probability (however slight) for what they were doing (flying).
Watching that video:
1. Per the reporter: "It all started when Mandy (sp?) had her teddy bear taken away".
Okay, Mom, here's where you step up to the plate. Instead of putting NEGATIVE ideas in your daughter's head ("Oh, Mandy, I'm so sorry they're taking Teddy away !!! I think we'll get him back !! If not, I'll buy you a new one !!) put some POSTIVE ideas in her head ( "Hey, Mandy; Teddy's lucking out and getting to go on the Magic Conveyor Belt ride ! They said we couldn't go too because we're big peoples but let's watch Teddy ! It'll be awesome !!" ).
2. The mom could have instructed the TSA agent to pat her (the mom) down first to show the young daughter that it isn't anything to fear. While the TSA patted her down, the mom could have laughed and told her daughter, "Mandy, it's so silly ! Kind of like when Aunt Fuzzface tickles us at Christmas !".
Or whatever .... heck, it's her kid, let HER fill in the blank, for gawd's sake.

I think it might be a bad idea to teach a 3 year old little girl that it's ok to let a stranger run his hands all over her body.Preferable to the mom sitting there like a deer in the headlights with her thumb up her arse while her daughter has a conniption fit.
She was probably so pissed off at the situation that she was either speechless, or didn't want to say anything that would cause even more problems. Ladies in the 20 to 60 year old range are prone to shaking and crying feeling violated after these ordeals. The little girl had enough morals and fortitude to fight to the end. "Stop touching me" and the kicking and shoving away was the absolute correct response!Vinyl, the final frontier...

That is so sick. I'm speechless.
Let me make sure that I clarify that there is no approval nor disapproval expressed in my previous opinion of the new airport screening procedures.
(There is a lot of "Dog & Pony" show aspect to it, without as much return on trouble as advertised).
HOWEVER: this is what is. There's no alternative right now. Irregardless of what was, what will be, what could have been, what should have been, this is what is.
The only choice right now, as I see it is this: fly or not fly.I think it might be a bad idea to teach a 3 year old little girl that it's ok to let a stranger run his hands all over her body.
Absolutely correct. Absolutely.
Commonly know as "stranger danger" training for youngsters. It works, and works well.
But, for instance, when the video mom takes Mandy to the doctor does she prepare her for the probability that she may be touched ? I would hope she does; that way the young lady is prepared, knows somewhat what to expect, and feels a level of security (especially with the mom there) on what is happening.
Ever been in a barbershop and seen a young man get his first haircut ? Some cry like they're shot. Why ? Because they don't know what's going on, IMO.
Prepare you kids for reality, teach them the difference between safe/unsafe, and good things happen.=messiah wrote:She was probably so pissed off at the situation that she was either speechless
I agree Mom didn't appear to be very active in the whole situation, but where's Dad ? Oh ..... that's right .... he's busy FILMING this on his cellphone.
His daughter is getting molested (THEIR interpretation), and this REPORTER sits idly by and films it ?!?!?!?!?messiah wrote:or didn't want to say anything that would cause even more problems. Why she would try to assist in what is effectively an unconstitutional search of her little girl?
I'd like to think that if I were in that situation, I'd have the strength to calmly hand my daughter off to my ever-so-involved husband, ask him to take Mandy back to the main concourse and then, after they were gone, proceed to rip arse holes and take names if I thought my daughter had been molested.
But then that's me. I assume that by not interfering with reporter Daddy capturing video Mom made a conscious choice to trade that option away (along with her daughter's modesty) for 17 seconds of excellent video phone coverage that Daddy could use in his T.V. reporter job. Daddy probably got a few "Kudos" at the station, so .... I guess it was worth it ? Heck no, IMO.
According to them ? Guess so. And THAT is the travesty in that video, IMO.Interesting, it's OK to borderline assualt a kid to get on an airplane, but if a teacher looks at them cross eyed, it's off to jail. I dunno, maybe it's just me. So now it's the parents fault too, they have to prepare them to get assualted ? WTF ??
Not prepared to get assaulted, tony, but prepared for what is. And not to put their child(ren) in harms way.
What is, is. The parents, in charge, are the ones making the decisions and choices. Mandy relied on their "judgement", IMO, and .... what you saw is what Mandy got. Not her parents; they got 17 seconds of video that reporter Daddy was able to use in his job.
NOT Mandy's fault, in any way, shape, or form.
And, IMO, not the TSA's fault; this is what the law prescribes right now, so they are following the law.
Who's fault is that ? Lots of folks who make the laws, IMO, and are merely interested in putting on dog and pony shows.
BTW: My oldest son knocked out a student in school that was going to assault a teacher in class. This was several years ago. When he told me the full circumstances behind it, I told him, "Good Job", and gave him $100 (that's all I could afford at the time). One-punched him. Am I proud of that ? GD right.Ladies in the 20 to 60 year old range are prone to shaking and crying feeling violated after these ordeals. The little girl had enough morals and fortitude to fight to the end. "Stop touching me" and the kicking and shoving away was the absolute correct response!
And Max, I give Mandy "Thumbs Up" for dealing with the situation that she was placed in by her parents as she perceived it.
I'd give her parents something else, however. Her daddy Reporter would/should receive an extreme anal cellphone insertion.Sal Palooza -

Right. A trip to the doctor would include knowing up front that touching is involved, and necessary. The difference here is that I'm pretty sure that neither mother nor father expected their little girl to be frisked that way. I'm also pretty sure we can all agree that the way the girl was searched was unreasonable. If she was speechless, than that means Mandy had NO ONE to speak up for her in an uncomfortable situation, and that is not satisfactory.
I agree. Most people are cowards, and don't do anything "in the moment", and just **** later. Of course, if you speak up, you'll probably miss your flight and be detained.I agree Mom didn't appear to be very active in the whole situation, but where's Dad ? Oh ..... that's right .... he's busy FILMING this on his cellphone.
His daughter is getting molested (THEIR interpretation), and this REPORTER sits idly by and films it ?!?!?!?!?
Yeah, like I said, coward. I suppose he felt that if he got it on tape he could then put it on TV and use his job as a way of getting peoples attention. In that he succeeded. In his responsibility to protect his daughter, he failed.
You and I would have handled it differently, but that doesn't excuse the TSA for their actions."They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."

I think it is sad when people say that it doesn't upset them when our rights are violated. There is nothing wrong with being mad and fighting for your beliefs. If America didn't do that before it became America then there wouldn't be an America. Too many "Americans just say we should wait and vote for it. It is not so much a democracy when our rich politicians make laws that are in there best interest. Over turning a law is much harder than preventing it in the first place. Most of us will just complain about it on an audio forum instead actually protesting and petitioning against our rights being violated.
Edit: Even though I couldn't watch my daughter going through that it is good that he filmed it. I hope they sue and win. The more videos of this behavior the better. Either rules will change, or the employees will stop acting like dime store renta cops, and show a little respect.

Untrue. If everyone stood up to this and said "no, this is too far" then it would stop. Immediately. If today everyone who flew, or even a majority of people who flew, put their foot down and said "no f-ing way is this happening" the rules would be changed tomorrow. If you will it, dude, it is no dream. -
This is apparently quickly spinning beyond the world of the TSA/ flight safety.
Went to the Dave Matthews show this Friday and we were separated into 2 lines, men and women. They then proceeded to have us empty our pockets out and go through a pat down. No metal detectors, no wands or anything that would indicate who should be pat down. Nope, ALL attendees were patted down.
I was beyond irate. The thought that some old dude on a power trip (which is exactly how he sounded) had the "right" to pat me down was absolutely infuriating.
This scares me more than anything else; will our loss of privacy when traveling by air trickle into other aspects of our day to day lives? When do we say when?
And I believe my earlier posts were misconstrued. I think the terrorist organizations out there are constantly looking for new methods of attack. I feel like we're wasting time trying to prevent attack methods that have already been used instead of being forward thinking and trying to prevent future/new attacks with greater intelligence and less focus on what's already been done.2007 Club Polk Football Pool Champ

To those saying we live in a different world than 100-200 years ago... Bobman's comment on basic human rights is spot-on. A cursory seach through history will show that human liberties and oppression have been much worse in the past, and they have been getting better with time. What is going on today in America is a step back. Unless we do something about it it's only getting worse. Our government has really ramped up it's abuse of the 1st and 4th ammendment with "free speach zones" and "mandatory searches in public places due to security". Law enforcement is becoming more and more militarized and have lots of new non-lethal methods of public oppression (they call it crowd control). They are even looking at UAV deployment inside the US. Not sure if it is for replacing police helicopters for pursuing criminals or general surveilance. However, I would bet on the later.

Why she would try to assist in what is effectively an unconstitutional search of her little girl?Interesting, it's OK to borderline assualt a kid to get on an airplane, but if a teacher looks at them cross eyed, it's off to jail. I dunno, maybe it's just me. So now it's the parents fault too, they have to prepare them to get assualted ? WTF ??Ladies in the 20 to 60 year old range are prone to shaking and crying feeling violated after these ordeals. The little girl had enough morals and fortitude to fight to the end. "Stop touching me" and the kicking and shoving away was the absolute correct response!I think it is sad when people say that it doesn't upset them when our rights are violated.

I guess what I'm confused about is whether some of y'all are reacting to this method being used on every single person every day or ever being used even just once.......
I usually travel through 2-4 airports a week, have been doing so for 14+ years, and the number of times I have been patted down in those literally tens of thousands of trips is 3 times. The reason that I was patted down 2 of those was because I forgot a cell phone in a pocket and once was that I was wearing an oversized shirt that they felt could be hiding something. I have yet to see that this is something that is happening to every person that goes through security……..comment comment comment comment. bitchy. -
Even if you are OK with getting a pat-down, I have absolutely zero confidence that the people hired by the TSA have enough training or knowledge to prevent a so-called underwear bomb or something similar. So literally this is just theater.
The scanning machines? Sure, I'll buy that it does actually make it safer to fly considering it is a virtual strip search. But they are not at every airport, not everyone gets screened, and even if you are chosen to be screened you can opt for a pat down from a glorified post office employee. Whoopity do! We are not 1 iota safer than we were before all this hoopla and have a lot less privacy to show for it. Not too mention the millions that I'm sure will be paid out in settlements to the individuals who somehow get wronged by a TSA agent who is improperly trained or just plain wrong or over the line in something they do. -
The article/video about the little girl is absurd for merely mentioning 'molesting' and y'all should be absolutely ashamed to even CONSIDER running with that, let alone repeating it ad nauseum to warp it into something other than what it was just because you want to use it to make your point.
It's far more absurd to watch that video and see nothing wrong with it. People may be overreacting, but they're doing so because they've had enough of this and are using one particularly blatant incident as a symbol of how bad things are.I usually travel through 2-4 airports a week, have been doing so for 14+ years, and the number of times I have been patted down in those literally tens of thousands of trips is 3 times. Wow, really, regulations instituted in the past few weeks haven't retroactively affected you in 14+ years of travel? That's so strange! I thought the TSA was using time travel to institute new rules in the past. Learn something new every day.If you will it, dude, it is no dream. -
So here is a theory. Our current government wants a national ID card so bad they can taste it, they have for years. Get people around the world so fed up with this groping situation that violence breaks out. Well guess what the answer to the problem will be. I rest my case.Vinyl, the final frontier...
