Raw meat? You're supposed to show us something that will make us hungry.

Arrived at the cabin later than expected, thanks Saratoga Race Track traffic…

Immediately seasoned and started resting this:

    7rrxi20nlomx.jpeg

Cooked on the charcoal grill and enjoyed it with a few sides from the butchers shop and a scotch.

Did I take a pics of it cooked?

    Nope. Way too hungry. 😆

My wife got a good deal on some lamb steaks, I don't have much experience with lamb, what would you recommend?

Do not microwave the leftovers. My own experience, it amplified the gaminess of Lamb. I've always grilled lamb chops, slow cooked leg of lamb..

Hot cast iron or grill, sear it like you would a beef steak, finish with herb butter or chimichurri. Cook to 145 internal.

Rosemary, garlic, lemon etc. in a marinade (Spiedie sauce if you're in WNY)
Grill to 140-145 as pointed out above.

    Beat me to it.

Although I've made Lamb stew out of it before. That kinda waters down the gaminess.

Alright, since I failed so miserably at taking COOKED pictures last time, here is make up post:

NY strip and assorted pasta salads from the butcher, with a pour of Smoke Wagon’s malted straight rye.

Great pics! We have been exploring ryes for a couple years and our former go to one was Basil Hayden Malted Rye. It’s since been supplanted by Bardstown Rye.

Rye has been a favorite of mine for a good amount of time.

The Smoke Wagon Malted in particular. Speaking with a buddy, who happens to be the liquor manager for a large retailer in my area. I mentioned how much I love it and have been picking it up from them for well over a year now. Everyone I know who has tried it, has loved it.

He mentioned that it doesn’t move, like at all. I’m pretty sure I’ve slowly purchased most of what they have sold. 😆

He agreed, it’s an amazing whiskey, people just ignore it.

So I bought a few more bottles and let him know that if he gets to the last bottle on the shelf, pull it and set it aside for me.

I’ll look for it here in Oregon. Prices are rather high combined with sometimes limited selection.

Cabin is 100% in bear country. There is a mama bear that frequently visits my land, with her two older cubs. I have zero desire to interfere with her, or the cubs. But if it comes down to it, I’m not getting into a fist fight with mama. I’m pretty certain a warning shot, with some chasing follow ups will be enough to haze her off.

    It is!

My wife hunted down my dream watch for this past Fathers Day. She knew I had been looking at some version of the Aqua Terra for about 20 years now. After years of primarily wearing smart watches, she knew I wanted to go back to wearing real watches. So she hunted it down and it was what we will call an “open secret” that we were watch shopping for Father’s Day, it was the only way she was going to get me to agree to go to NYC. :D

I typically take it off and put on an older watch when I start knocking around and doing stuff at the cabin.

I’ll put on an older Wenger automatic that has been an absolute work horse, I’ve had it for at least 17 years. It needs to go in for servicing. It’s not keeping perfect time, it will usually lose 5-10 minutes in 24 hours, usually while sleeping and not moving. I need to find a good place to send it off to.

    That is a great story!

I have recently been getting back into mechanical watches, too, and although the watch was blurry in your pic, I knew you had something special there. It’s super-cool that your wife was instrumental in acquiring it. The memory of that will go along with the watch forever.

The Wenger looks like it is still in great condition for a beater! Haha! Shouldn’t be too tough to find someone to service the Swiss movement, but I understand the concern with something you’ve had for so long.
