That's because of the sound. It is highly regarded and Taiko is at the forefront of audio technology, breaking barriers along the way. The thread about Taiko is the WBF's most popular thread, with well over a million views. The only real competition that users are reporting is the also ridiculously priced Wadex server. But Taiko also has switches, the XDMI and other accessories that boost the performance of the Taiko server. Not so sure if Wadex has the same or similar things, as they aren't discussed as much as the Taiko.
Anyhoo, here is a rather unique R2R -

I guess having tape on the reel would spoil the looks.

Taiko Olympus and IO according to Google Lens search. Some over the top music server stuff from the WBF world. Can someone tell me what the thing on the top right is? It looks like a fancy photo copier...
It is basically a standard server put into a very fancy custom case with custom passive cooling and a custom linear power supply. Price is pushing €90k.
My current server cost me about $1000 to build including 32TB (4x8TB) of SAS drives, plus a spare drive. I use my server for more than just audio though. It hosts my entire movie collection and 20+ years of digital photos.

I could but shipping gets expensive. I could also help guide anyone who is mildly computer literate using a slightly used enterprise gear. If that main part is already assembled, it's just a matter of populating drives and letting something like TrueNAS do the rest. -

I'm already there with my meager system. My hearing is only getting worse, and now I can add tinnitus to that list. I still love the pursuit of better sound, though!Enjoying the journey while never attaining the destination. -
Now, THAT's a horn system!

This one has been at the top of my experience for 7 years standing.

It was 2019 and I believe the system was well over $1mil
Can't imagine what it is now -
1 million in 2019 is easily 2 to 3 million today- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.
-
It would actually only be $1.31 million if strictly counting inflation rates. Now, tariffs, chip shortages, and company profit greed might bump it higher...
-
What made that system stand out, was the fact it was in a massive room, with tons of folks and chairs in there - and it still sounded like you were smack in the middle of an orchestra - truly unforgettable.
-
Does anyone remember the components in the system? Just curious. The speakers remind me of my old SS-M9 ES, but that shape is popular for high end speakers, so it's no surprise.
