Fires here are insane and heartbreaking. I think @nooshinjohn lives up off the 101 somewhere. There's a new fire in that area right now (north of the 101) approaching homes. Hope he's OK.

My sister had to evacuate from her home in Hollywood because of the mandatory evacuation orders.

Over 6000 homes and structures have been completely destroyed. No containment in sight.uugy5vxhbq2b.jpg

Cora showed up on schedule. A rare event for Decatur, Georgia.

Rare for northeast Texas. About 6” since yesterday morning. Supposed to get up to about 36 degrees today, so it won’t last long.

First significant snow in Metro Atlanta since December 2017? I had 3-4" overnight and then it started sleeting and turning the nice powder into a slushy mess. We are supposed to have a freezing rain later and a hard freeze tonight. Things probably won't thaw until Sunday or Monday. Side roads receive no treatment from the county, so I won't be going anywhere for a couple days.

Calling now for 3-5" in SE VA.
(@Hermitism, that's just north of South Dakota)

We'll see. We typically just end up with rain.

I like snow for a day or three, and then that's enough. Gets pretty messy around here with the sand they spread.

Ron, is it because they can't stand the humidity, either?

Did you feel the earthquake this morning around 8am your time?

    You should have.

    A 3.5 they said.

It is amazing how when one gets older that they can smell the difference between snow and ice.

I haven't noticed the difference between snow and ice - I'll have to pay attention to that.

But I know what you mean about the scent of snow in the air before it snows. It's unique, I can't describe it.

Power went out here for about two-and-a-half hours. Two blocks over they still had lights on. Made tacos by candlelight with the gas stove.

We are on day 2 of a southeast GA snow in. I expect most businesses will be closed again, which doesn't matter much because we live at the bottom of a hill. We did dodge the no power bullet a couple times last night, which was nice.

When I was younger, I could smell the difference from incoming rain and shark week.
