Yes, that was the problem, it didn't get rid of tics and pops any better than a conventional turntable. The only benefit was there wasn't any physical contact with the record grooves. Plus it was expensive for the time. I think in the future records will be scanned either with a miniature radar or other mapping scheme as a landscape terrain is done now on a larger scale. Take an electron microscope and combine it with a way to read the "valleys" of the groove and ignore any pits or surface mars. -

I'm sure in the late 50's early 60's this was a top of the line unit.
