While not a product from the past, this letter of advice was found in a 1947 issue of Audio Engineering:

This small "what's new" article, in 1948, on research of a new current amplifier is certainly prophetic to say the least.
-
speaking of unusual amplifier technology...

I will mention that some of the technology discussed stems from... shall we say... the bad guys from WWII. This is my half-hearted form of a trigger warning -- in case that sort of discussion is something any of you'd rather not read.

These are still among the best ever made in my semi-humble opinion. -

oh, yeah.
My hifi buddy Joseph Esmilla (designer of the "Simple 2A3" amp that I am listening to even as I type this) featured some pretty cool WE driver stuff on his blog overnight, synchronicitously.

JE's got mad skilz (and outstanding taste in sound reproduction). He's also a musician and a photographer.

PS I mean... ya gotta love loudspeaker drivers with handles.

Thanks for the links!

JE's home base is in Pennsylvania, too, @SeleniumFalcon -- just sayin'.

When we were trying to become an Audio Research dealer we had to have a minimum of test gear, such as a Sound Technology distortion analyzer and a Simpson 280 meter. A true classic!

not an unusual product, but an amusing ad
Full disclosure: in a self-ordained "lend-lease" activity, I... ahem... shared the Perreaux ad above @ ASR, while capturing the one I just posted in return. I do like to be transparent vis-a-vis my skulduggery.
PS Since it's a Sylvania ad, of course the tube in the photo's a Loktal!

All righty. Ohm Fs were/are peculiar.
Stacked Ohm Fs are off the chart.
(as seen at ASR in an Ohm Walsh thread)
Good news...you can practically steal these from the owner...
