They were certainly thinking outside the box when they designed those tweeters.

When that speaker was first introduced the tweeters (called Dixi cups) were unsupported when they were shipped from the factory. A high percentage of them were damaged, just snapped off where the cone mated with the faceplate. Infinity began shipping them with a bracket attached to the top of the speaker cabinet and bracing the top of the cone. This bracket had to be removed after the speaker was in place by the customer. Infinity always wanted something different for the treble, first electrostatic, then the Walsh idea and finally the Emit tweeter and midrange. I repaired lots of Emit tweeters and Emim midrange drivers, it took a bit of practice to keep everything aligned.

Haha, and they thought cellphones distracted the driver too much. This think should have been called The Master Distractor .- SDA 2BTL · Sonicaps · Mills resistors · RDO-198s · New gaskets · H-nuts · Erse inductors · BH5 · Dynamat

Heck, folks nowadays would sink the price of a starter home just into the wires to hook it all up.

Great speakers!!!!
When I was a kid our family friend had a pair of these running off Onkyo Integra integrated amps. Behind each speaker was a huge and tall 18" downward firing Cerwin Vega sub. He still has the Snells and the subs in storage -
I remember selling a really good sound system to a really nice guy from Pakistan. It was based around a pair of Snell Type A speakers with Audio Research electronics and a Kenwood KD500 turntable and a suitable cartridge (probably a Sonos). He loved the speakers, each time me and my partner would come to his house for some reason he would insist on giving us "some kabobs" that his wife made. It was my introduction to middle eastern food, falafels, mint chutney all delicious.

Now that I think of it maybe they were only 12-15" subs. When you're a kid everything seems bigger than it actually is.

This is a review of the Cosmostatic speakers.

If I remember you manually created the vacuum with an internal pump, there might have been an external vacuum pump the could have been added. There have been a few turntables that used vacuum to hold the record flat, the Maplenoll Opollo was one.

Hmmm... I wonder if it's the same Questar as the telescope folks?
