    Another recovery from my dad's collection: Technics SU-V8X integrated.

    4X 8600uF filter caps, and a hefty transformer. 120WPC into 8 ohms. Total weight close to 30lbs.
    This model has the 'Computer Drive New Class A', which apparently has something to do with self/synchro-biasing. This unit needs some love, but so far I am impressed with the sound. It's not a full-on beast, but approaching that status in a relative way, especially compared to its contemporaries from Japan.

    This model has those nasty Technics twisty speaker wire posts on the back, and several of them have broken-off :s

    From what I've read, some of the New Class A stuff is very good, particularly the earlier examples, which yours appears to be. As you get into later, mid 80s stuff like the SU-v75 that I had (I think) It is all plastic but still sounds solidly OK.

    I have yet to find any earlier New Class A models in the flesh. :)

    I noticed you have a Shanling CD player. I have one of their portable digital audio players (DAP), and it sounds quite good. I had no idea they made higher-end components.

    Catching-up on projects, I made an improvement to the fragile, brittle, Technics twisty speaker cable hookups. I didn't have much choice on the Technics SU-V8X I'm rehabbing. Only 3.5 out of 8 plastic twisty connectors were left on the amp, so here I had removed all of them, and de-soldered the panel from the PCB.

    Note the tabs to which the red arrow points. Those tabs go into slotted holes on the PCB...not exactly conducive to lead wires.

    Rear holes left in the chassis shown here, which provided a template for drilling holes in the replacement panel.

    After stripping the wire insulators, I had to press the strands flat in order to insert them into the PCB slots.

    Only real hickup was forgetting to align the binding post drill-through holes for speaker cable ends. Doh! Had to unscrew, align, and tighten back. In the end, it works and sounds great!

    I had a good vintage restoration Saturday day today. Finished up a full cosmetic rework (clean, paint, vinyl wrap, scale LED’s, new pointer light) of a Pioneer SX-626 and started on restoring a very ratty pair of Sansui AS-200's. They sounded good dirty. Hope they sound better after cleaning and a re-cap. Has anyone had ears on them?

    That's cool how the flood/spot lights can't shine their light on all of those towers and bass cabinets fronts. Man are they BIG!

    Thanks Tony, yes it takes a lot of amp to drive these..they are the lowest sensitivity speaker I have ever owned, but with the right power, they really shine.
