There were always 'options' when purchasing new turntables, so the plinth/base was one such option. Yours has the 'tray' option, but here is one (mine :) ) that has the wooden plinth option.
    3cazk5lk0rg1.jpg
The (suspended) chassis is the same for both, but the base/plinth is different. The included cartridge was another option.

One nice feature of the 721 is that the tonearm counter-weight had more advanced anti-resonance properties. In fact, the stock counter-weight on a 721 (and same design from a few other models) is considered an upgrade to counter-weights on earlier Dual turntables with similar fittings.

I think I have seen the base you’re sportin’. I’m gonna be on the lookout for one now.

Looks great! What finish did you use? Nice looking isolation base, too.

Update on the Pioneer SA-8100 from my dad's stash
    1diwrm57o8a2.jpg

I got it cleaned-up pretty well, and it's basically noise-free after some several strategic sprays of DeOxit
    4vp1zxha5ltc.jpg

It could use some more love, inside and out, so I will try to find a person looking for a project.

I'm impressed with the sound (and looks) of this vintage unit. Not really a beast at only 40WPC into 8 ohms, but the watts presented sound pretty sweet to me :)

I meant to take a few pics of the tantalum capacitors in there...will have to remedy that. They're kinda...cute???

Spray on "quick detail" waxes for cars work really well for brushed finishes. It's what I used to shine up my SX-780 faceplate/knobs.

I had to go check just now to see what Dual model I bought back in 1980 or so and it turns out it's the more midrange CS606. It's been sitting in safe climate controlled storage for about 30 years or so.

It was the ultra low mass tonearm that sold me on it back then:

    Nice RTR.

I gave away the other two I had; got three of 'em (used hard but functional and readily re-hab-able) gratis from a local radio station a few years back. :)

Insufficient data. Coupla years back, I turned down an A1 and T1 (both black, both in good working condition) for a C-note. :( What the fug was I thinking? ;)

I did find this at our daughter & son-in-law's town dump a couple of months back. It works well enough, actually... but not quite the same thing, you know? ;)

When I was 10 years old? This would have been a "To Die For" setup. Cassettes and LP's were all there was back then and "High End" to me was what you have there. Pretty cool man.

Just as a poinf of reference: That stack doesn't have nearly enough colored/flashing lights nor big meters for ten year old me, @treitz3
Your tastes at age 10 were clearly more refined than mine ;)

Shoot, back then, I was running with a pair of Scott speakers and receiver and a TT which I also believe was a Scott. The TT was one of those high flutin' ones that you could actually stack LP's on...LOL

Then I moved up to an Onkyo reciever and a pair of Klipsch Heresey's after mowing many a lawn. This was back when Twisted Sister and Little Feat were on constant rotation. Jon Bon Jovi had just hit the scene and "She's a little Runaway" was one of my favorites.

About 2 years later, this new fandangled thing called a "CD Player" came out and I was the first kid in the neighborhood to have one. It think my first one was a Pioneer 7 disc CDP with that 6 disc cartridge. Man, did CD's sound like crap back then.

Ah, to be a kid again.

That was the first amp I ever owned, I bought it new after having previously owned a few different receivers. Had it paired up with a S.A.E. preamp, a 2900 IIRC. Always loved meters.
