They sound better than they look! ;)

You like bass, right? These would be for you. For starters anyway. ;)

They're the speakers that took me seriously back to the stereo nirvana listening rabbit hole!

I've had a couple of modded pair in the past, and sold them to fund something else. The 1C's are very good speakers, but I always thought that with the close proximity of all the Mid-Drivers, that they sounded a little "congested" in the Mid Range.

But, they don't come up for sale very often in my part of the Country, and they do have the Original Boxes. I would really like to have a nice pair of 2B's ;)

I had bunches of SDA's crammed into a top 5 worst room contender in forum history they still sounded great....in the kitchen or on the porch. Hell, I'm still trying to find the sweet spot thanks to placement and imperfect USED DRIVERS.

You sound like a true polk diehard.

Mine are TL, and start with 62xx serial numbers so you are good to go. This is the first I have heard to there being two different thicknesses in the end caps. Could be that Polk changed things on the fly, as they were known to do that back in the day. The other is that one of the two speakers had the caps replaced at some point.

The good news is they are both TL's.... now let the mods and upgrades begin.

@nooshinjohn you hit the nail on the head with the panels....
Now for the rest of the story...
I had to go back to pick-up the interconnect cable once he found it so I asked him about the cabinet mismatch and he told me the following:
He bought the speakers as close outs back in 1990 or 91 and these were their Demo set. He said the demo set had one Walnut cabinet and one Oak cabinet to show off the finishes the customer could choose from. He bought the Demo set and then contacted Polk to see if he could swap panels to get the Oak finish for the Walnut cabinet. They let him ship back the panels on the one and mailed him the new ones but apparently the new ones were a bit thicker and not exactly the same color (thus why the speakers are the way they are today).

I still think they will be a good set for me and I was pleasantly surprised today when picking up the interconnect cable....... Not just the cable it is an AI-1. Although I won't use it (I have two Dreadnoughts I built that I need to put into service) but It's cool to have....
So I'm pretty happy and yes I will have to do some modding eventually.. :)

^^What did you measure to come up with Smallies?
2 channel: Anthem 225 Integrated amp; Parasound Ztuner; TechnicsTT SL1350; Vincent PHO-8 phono pre; Marantz CD6005 spinner; Polk SDA2BTL's; LAT International speaker cables, ZU Mission IC's and power cables all into a PS Audio Dectet Power center.

Other; M10 series II, M7C's, Hafler XL600 amp, RB-980BX, Parasound HCA-1500 amp , P5 preamp, all in storage. All vintage Polk have had crossover rebuilds and tweeter upgrades.

The best way to predict the future is to invent it.

It is imperative that we recognize that an opinion is not a fact.
