These speakers used to play really loud in a large room..now due to the crap driver they will not. If you put them in a smaller room, don't come close to the 12 oclock position. .maybe these will work.

Which means you consistently go over the 12 o'clock position and which also means you don't know what your doing and want to blame Polk for your abusive nature.

Maybe so X, but given the advice he's already been given and fails to grasp, is there another conclusion you'd like to add ? Customer loyalty isn't an issue here when he's called Polk parts crap. Love to hear your advice for the man....that hasn't already been given.

My advise to Bobt is this...

Sometimes. . .just sometimes. . .it isn't everybody else that's the problem. Sometimes it's you. And maybe now is one of those times.

Bobt, get a pair of hyper efficient Klipsch or a pair of Cerwin Vegas. Honestly, I think you'll be happier. Something that can play ear bleeding volumes without breaking a sweat. Something that you can drive your amp into clipping with (which you probably are) and won't be affected as much.

That or give the driver some break-in time and keep the dial below 11 o'clock.

    Hello Bobt,
Would you be willing to send that driver to Polk's HQ and let Freeman Stiles take a look at it? If the rear suspension became unglued or tore, they would like to know.
Let me know if this is possible.
    Best regards, Ken

THIS....would be most interesting to hear from someone that knows what they are doing. To determine the cause of the failure.

Ken, I would love to send you the driver.. but really you asked the same thing 2 years ago if not more. You sent me a number of drivers.. they did not work.
These original speakers are from 1987... they have only needed 1 driver replacement back at least 13 years ago. That driver works 100%

The New China drivers.. just do NOT work. Really? you think these new drivers are what they should be??? I have put them in the other speaker... it's not the speaker it's the driver... it fails all the time. These speakers POP... all of them do the same dam thing..... The original speakers work..100%

Now really if you don't know this.. you have to be kidding me...
IF you could make real drivers that worked.. then the speakers are worth while, but I have tried this, and given you guys a few years to fix it... so far, nothing works.
I don't know what to tell you except if you really think this replacement driver is good.
then you need to get a grip....

Ken offers to have the good folks at Polk help you again, and you crap all over the offer.... way to show your classy side.

NO.. i'm not giving Ken the crap... HE's a good guy and would like to help. BUT..
The drivers are not so good.. cheap yes but NOT what was it was in 1980's.
They work if you keep them at low volume.. you push them... then they pop.

This is seriously old. You don't even acknowledge any of the potential issues that people point out, such as ZLTFUL up there. You refuse Kens offer for help. What do you want?

I have zero doubt that Ken CAN fix this, but you would have to check your arrogance at the door. I have little hope that you will do that, as your problems could have stopped years ago if you had used 100th of 1% of the advice and suggestions you have received here in that time.

I sincerely wish you the best of luck in continuing to be the smartest member of CP, because it is working out so well for you...

    Welcome to my ignore list.

    Hello bobt,
Either the rear suspension, called the spyder, has had a glue bond failure or become torn. As long as the voice coil former has not been severely damaged Freeman stands a good chance of repairing it and making sure it meets all specifications. He can measure distortion, power handling, insuring that all T/S parameters are correct.
Believe me nobody can test and build a speaker component like him. If for some reason he can't make the driver work perfectly he might be able to build one up from scratch.
    Regards, Ken

^ This is the reason I will stick with Polk. Boutique speaker manufacturers aside you won't find customer service like this, and Ken specifically, from your average speaker company.

@bobt Second chance, you'd have to be crazy not to take Ken up here.

Ken... Really??? you know as well as I do the replacement drivers for the MW6511 is well... half ****, what I got 15 years ago worked perfect.
Now if you really want me to send you the new stuff I got... ok
I have the original 1987 driver, but I think the coil is screwed. NOBODY will fix it. I have tried....

Really you know what i'm talking about here,,,,
If you really want me to send it to you I can do that.. you know what i'm talking about..unless the speaker works 100% then not worth the money...

The other question is what is this going to cost me???

Yaknow, the more I read the complaints, the more I'm leaning towards wired backwards and pushed silly. Just a guess.
They may also be wired incorrectly. On the 1Cs, the 6511s are wired in series, while the 6510s are wired in parallel. If the 6511s are wired in parallel as well, that could be part of the problem.
I've ordered several replacement drivers over the past few years, and have not had a single one fail, or pop when driven hard.

To be honest with you, if you have worked for Polk over 15 years... you should know the new drivers.. don't work that well... just saying. If you really think you can fix it, be my guest. I have tried to get the original Polk driver fixed. No speaker repair place will touch it....
