Oh we all understand the driver problem. It is one of those eye dee ten tee issues.
Probably a bunch of PEBCAK problems too.

Me I have a Yamaha Acoustic and a Beat Up SG that I've had for years play some but for my own entertainment hardly worthy of putting up a you tube video. Neither of us probably don't have any knowledge of any music reproduction such as yourself.. But come on 35 years and your knowledge of music reproduction isn't that good eithier.

What about Miss Daisy??? She always had a good driver. And my 1c's....they have good drivers. If I try to get them close to 12 o'clock on my setup my ears begin to bleed and then they fall off. Personally hate when that happens. No popping only way too much clean volume. Yes, they play unenjoyably loud. In an attempt to help with this driver problem... if I live within 200 miles of the op, I would be happy to arrange a road trip to help determine the cause of the bad, popping driver. I would even bring an amp and pre to make sure it is not the equipment. That being said......where are the troublesome SDA's located? Just trying to help.

I gotta admit, trolls like Bobbie boy here are somewhat entertaining. From his typing I am getting a Sling Blade vibe.

It amazes me how stupid some people are. Really and truly does. And usually that amazement comes from the younger crowd of idiots. But this one is old.

Bobt, no commentary on anything you said w/ the exception that Polk was sold. Who now owns them ? A giant holding company like D& M who bought McIntosh, Denon, Boston Acoustics, Marantz and a bunch of other high end audio companies or the Harmon Group which seems to own everything else like JBL,Infifnity,Mark Levinson, H/K, and AKG. Of course there are many companies that are still privately owned of the high end boutique speaker type like AVS, Sonus Farber, Usher, and Legacys among many others.

DEI Holdings. They own the Polk brand along with Definitive Techology, BOOM, Viper, Clifford, Python and Autostart. They are divided into 2 divisions...Directed which is the car alarm/remote start side and Sound United which is audio.

Well not sure I should even bother to tell you people. But the new China driver does not work. It does the same thing.. POP if you push it too hard. Now I have tried to get the original 1987 driver fixed... nobody will fix it. The replacement drivers I got over 15 years ago... they work 100%... There is no problem with them.
The new drivers are junk... maybe something you do not get....

These speakers used to play really loud in a large room..now due to the crap driver they will not. If you put them in a smaller room, don't come close to the 12 oclock position. .maybe these will work.

Pretty much what Polk put out 15 years ago.... The new drivers are not even close.
If you don't like what I say...LMAO.. have a good day.
The new drivers are junk... so either buy old original drivers or play the speakers in a small room and don't turn them up..............

Which means you consistently go over the 12 o'clock position and which also means you don't know what your doing and want to blame Polk for your abusive nature.

Maybe so X, but given the advice he's already been given and fails to grasp, is there another conclusion you'd like to add ? Customer loyalty isn't an issue here when he's called Polk parts crap. Love to hear your advice for the man....that hasn't already been given.

My advise to Bobt is this...

Sometimes. . .just sometimes. . .it isn't everybody else that's the problem. Sometimes it's you. And maybe now is one of those times.

Bobt, get a pair of hyper efficient Klipsch or a pair of Cerwin Vegas. Honestly, I think you'll be happier. Something that can play ear bleeding volumes without breaking a sweat. Something that you can drive your amp into clipping with (which you probably are) and won't be affected as much.

That or give the driver some break-in time and keep the dial below 11 o'clock.

    Hello Bobt,
Would you be willing to send that driver to Polk's HQ and let Freeman Stiles take a look at it? If the rear suspension became unglued or tore, they would like to know.
Let me know if this is possible.
    Best regards, Ken

THIS....would be most interesting to hear from someone that knows what they are doing. To determine the cause of the failure.

5 bucks says he is wiring them out of phase...that he is assuming that the black wire is the - side instead of being the + side with white being the -.

Would definitely cause issues to have a driver trying to travel in the opposite direction if the 7 other drivers.

Ken, I would love to send you the driver.. but really you asked the same thing 2 years ago if not more. You sent me a number of drivers.. they did not work.
These original speakers are from 1987... they have only needed 1 driver replacement back at least 13 years ago. That driver works 100%

The New China drivers.. just do NOT work. Really? you think these new drivers are what they should be??? I have put them in the other speaker... it's not the speaker it's the driver... it fails all the time. These speakers POP... all of them do the same dam thing..... The original speakers work..100%

Now really if you don't know this.. you have to be kidding me...
IF you could make real drivers that worked.. then the speakers are worth while, but I have tried this, and given you guys a few years to fix it... so far, nothing works.
I don't know what to tell you except if you really think this replacement driver is good.
then you need to get a grip....

NO.. i'm not giving Ken the crap... HE's a good guy and would like to help. BUT..
The drivers are not so good.. cheap yes but NOT what was it was in 1980's.
They work if you keep them at low volume.. you push them... then they pop.
