Are you READY for some FOOTBALL!!!

Here it is:

From the 2013 NFL rule book (which is the only one I can find online)
Article 1 A Time Out is an interval during which the Game Clock is stopped (4-4) and includes the intermission (4-1-2 and 4- 1-3). During any time out, including an intermission, all playing rules continue in force. Representatives of either team are prohibited from entering the field unless they are incoming substitutes, or team attendants or trainers entering to provide for the welfare of a player, and any game-type activities are prohibited on the Field of Play. Note: The term Time Out (general) is not to be confused with a charged team time out, which is specific. (4-5-1).

Yes players enter the field of play without their helmets on all the time. So you would have been ok with it if he had his helmet on? Of course not, but you are grasping for something to substantiate your position because it was determined that there was no pass interference to be called. You still ignore the grabbing of the facemask by the receiver while the ball was in the air which could have prevented him from looking back for the ball. Please address that non-call.

As far as the helmet rule, in this context they never call it, i see it every game. If a player is running on to the field putting his helmet on they don't call it, but if a player removes his helmet after a play to show up the other team after a play they call it every time. It wasn't a foul. The rule was put in place to prevent players from celebrating without their helmets after touchdowns ( it is affectionately known as the Emmitt Smith Rule) because he did it as part of a touchdown celebration.

A: Re-read the rule
B: Watch this

You are obviously a Cowboy fan and are rationalizing things. I get it. I don't hate Dallas, just hate to see obviously things get dismissed.

Player Conduct Rule 12, Section 3, Article 1, prohibits a player from removing his helmet while on the field.

He didn't remove his helmet, he never had it on. You can interpret it as a foul but it can also be interpreted as not a foul. Besides it had nothing to do with the play. I get it you are grasping for something that validates your position.

Again you refuse to address the grabbing of the face mask by the receiver which is also a foul albeit was not called as the grab of the jersey was not called. It was ruled on the field that it was not sufficient contact and not DPI by the official who threw the flag after he was consulted by those who had a better view. He corrected his own call.

deronb1 · January 2015

Just saw the face mask grab from a good angle. Yes, that should have been called. Probably the best call, in retrospect, would have been offsetting penalties. Repeat 3rd down.

Bryant was still on the field illegally and should have been duly flagged for it.

Mikey081057 · January 2015

If they were to have throw 3 or 4 fouls on the play, then I think they still would have been offsetting and replay 3rd down. I am not sure how the Unsportsmanlike Conduct on the helmet off would have impacted that tho.

I get that these calls get missed all the time, but I can't recall too many of those in the past that the President has felt compelled to comment on:

http://espn.go.com/nfl/playoffs/2014/story/_/id/12130526/president-barack-obama-says-pretty-aggravated-were-detroit-lions-fan

Seriously though, it's over and done with so doesn't matter now. My only point with all this was to learn from this and fix the system.

Went home for lunch and turned on NFL network. They had the 1995 NFC Championship game on between the Packers and Cowboys. I only got to see the 4th quarter. Hopefully this is a preview of things to come.

Mr. Moderator is there any way you can prevent me from posting on this thread now because I may not be able to stop myself.

Lets change the subject. Who do you guys think the all time best announcers where in The NFL. I'll have to go with John Madden and Pat Summerall. Really miss these guys calling the games.

No doubt about it. A distant second was the original MNF team of Gifford Cosell & Meredith. They had some interesting moments.

Yeah, cant forget about Howard "Look at that little monkey run"

From Wiki...

During the "Halftime Highlights" segment of Monday Night Football on September 24, 1973, Cosell said "Look at that little monkey run!" when describing a 97-yard kickoff return by Washington Redskins player Herb Mul-Key during the Sunday game against the St. Louis Cardinals. There was no outcry over this comment.

However, during a Monday Night Football telecast on September 5, 1983, Cosell said of Washington Redskins wide receiver Alvin Garrett, "That little monkey gets loose, doesn't he?"[22] The Rev. Joseph Lowery, then-president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, denounced Cosell's comment as racist and demanded a public apology, but Cosell refused, citing his past support for black athletes and stating that "little monkey" was an affectionate term he had used in the past for diminutive white athletes (including Mike Adamle, for whom Cosell was on record using the term 11 years prior), as well as for his own grandson. Cosell left the Monday Night Football booth following the 1983 season.

His ultimate dismissal from Monday Night Football may have come as the result of using the same monkey allusion with respect to the Washington Redskins wide receiver Art Monk ripping many after-catch yards into the end zone. "Look at that monkey go," he said, even though the moniker for Monk was an affectionate diminutive form like Jimmie for James....

People may or may not realize but Howard was one of the worlds foremost experts on boxing. His frequent reparte's with Cassius Clay/ Muhammad Ali are some of the most wonderful moments of 70's sports. To this day, Ali IMHO is still the greatest athletic personality EVER!. Memories of his fights and his promotion of fights were some of the fondest memories of my youth.

Have to agree. Cosell/Ali one of the great pairings in sports history. "You're not the man you used to be?" lol Ali always rose to the occasion, even trying to pull off Howard's topee to show Howard wasn't the man he "used" to be either!

Ali also carried the torch as a boisterous Black Man who the majority were not quite ready for yet, but gradually "warmed" up to as time passed. Ali, was NOT worried about that! And we, the young, loved the guy, who cared what the old boys thought about him as Cassius Clay. I don't know about all of you, but I remember when the establishment really wanted to see this African American wannabe knocked out by a great white hope and how fight after fight after fight, Ali had the last laugh! He was the greatest for MANY reasons!

Madden and Pat. Gotta go with them as well. Who was as animated as John as quick to get excited and give you his take (exploding Xs, Os and arrows onto a board and analyzing what went wrong or right) while Pat spent a lot of time balancing that larger than life Madden and bringing him back down to earth. I must admit I'm biased because Madden used to be my coach. I was a Raiders fan when I was 13 when I started following Oakland and Madden's antics on the sidelines during all those playoff misses till Ken Stabler finally won a SB against the Vikings; undefeated Miami teams, steel curtains, immaculate receptions, Oakland fans thought they were cursed back then, (now?-not a fan after Madden left)!

Amen

Great post!

Aaron Rodgers is not gone to practice yet. They don't know if he will be 100%! I had know idea his calf was that bad. Also the temperature will be as high as 21°...T-Shirt weather!

Man, talking football with you guys is no better than politics. Opinionated are we ? lol

C'mon, man! Have a heart...It's still a little too soon to be laughing at/thinking of all of that for those of us with purple blood! :'(

dromunds · January 2015

Rodgers will be 100%.

dromunds · January 2015

Funny, the MSN page has a headline "Rodgers has torn calf muscle" but 32 minutes ago the local papers reported Coach McCarthy said Rodgers's mobility was good in practice today. From interviews the last couple days, I have little doubt that he's fine and unless he reinjures it on Sunday will be just fine.

gce · January 2015

Oh I know he will play its just these reports coming out. I wonder if there throwing up a smoke screen. Regardless Dallas will be ready if hes 100% or not.

Lets see who comes closest to picking the winner and score of NCAA championship. OSU 41. Oregon 31
