People may or may not realize but Howard was one of the worlds foremost experts on boxing. His frequent reparte's with Cassius Clay/ Muhammad Ali are some of the most wonderful moments of 70's sports. To this day, Ali IMHO is still the greatest athletic personality EVER!. Memories of his fights and his promotion of fights were some of the fondest memories of my youth.

Have to agree. Cosell/Ali one of the great pairings in sports history. "You're not the man you used to be?" lol Ali always rose to the occasion, even trying to pull off Howard's topee to show Howard wasn't the man he "used" to be either!

Ali also carried the torch as a boisterous Black Man who the majority were not quite ready for yet, but gradually "warmed" up to as time passed. Ali, was NOT worried about that! And we, the young, loved the guy, who cared what the old boys thought about him as Cassius Clay. I don't know about all of you, but I remember when the establishment really wanted to see this African American wannabe knocked out by a great white hope and how fight after fight after fight, Ali had the last laugh! He was the greatest for MANY reasons!

Madden and Pat. Gotta go with them as well. Who was as animated as John as quick to get excited and give you his take (exploding Xs, Os and arrows onto a board and analyzing what went wrong or right) while Pat spent a lot of time balancing that larger than life Madden and bringing him back down to earth. I must admit I'm biased because Madden used to be my coach. I was a Raiders fan when I was 13 when I started following Oakland and Madden's antics on the sidelines during all those playoff misses till Ken Stabler finally won a SB against the Vikings; undefeated Miami teams, steel curtains, immaculate receptions, Oakland fans thought they were cursed back then, (now?-not a fan after Madden left)!

Funny, the MSN page has a headline "Rodgers has torn calf muscle" but 32 minutes ago the local papers reported Coach McCarthy said Rodgers's mobility was good in practice today. From interviews the last couple days, I have little doubt that he's fine and unless he reinjures it on Sunday will be just fine.

Oh I know he will play its just these reports coming out. I wonder if there throwing up a smoke screen. Regardless Dallas will be ready if hes 100% or not.

Sounds like a play out of the Belichick Playbook? lol

Oh, and I have complete confidence in OSU losing to Oregon. What else is there, Ohio winning? Big Ten, not what it used to be! Heck it isn't even really the Big Ten anymore, now is it?

As far as Aaron Rodgers, I'd say the Packers are throwing up a smoke screen, but McCarthy doesn't do the Belichick. Truth be told, McCarthy has trouble getting his players up for big games. They are professionals and shouldn't need to be jacked up but we all know better than that. If I have a concern, that's it. The only problem with McCarthy is he doesn't have a killer instinct, the Packers can get a lead but then they will go into conservative mode. They have trouble putting good teams away. And did I mention his stubborn tendency to try to go with his game plan no matter what? Still, I think it'll be the Packers. Part of me thinks the Packers will put it together and score a lot of points, like they did a few weeks in a row in the middle of the season. Part of me thinks they will barely eek one out mainly based on home field advantage.

I think this game (Dallas @ Green Bay) comes down to who comes to play and who wants it more. Both these teams can put up a lot of points. It may come down to ball control and the Cowboys running game. If the Cowboys get there running game going they are going to be hard to stop.

Don't forget the Packers have a very impressive running game as well. Lacey diced the Lions when very few running backs have rushed for 100 yards on them, but the Packers also have at least five very talented receivers that have been underutilized in some recent games. The Packers have a pretty weak D-line, but with Julius Peppers and Clay Mathews it will interesting to see how effective the Dallas running game is. But often its as simple as the team with the best quarterback will win. If that is the case, it may be a close game. I see all this hype about the Ice Bowl II. I guess they forget that the Ice Bowl II was in '96 I believe against Carolina, the game after the Mud Bowl against the 49ers IIRC. I was at both games. I think it was the Mud Bowl where one of my buddies wife got too drunk tailgaiting and decided to sell her ticket right before the game started. She was offered $20 for the ticket by a scalper and she took it as the game was nearly starting. Turns out there were maybe 4 no-shows and I was told an unused ticket for that game was an extremely valuable collector item.

Both the Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys have ghosts to slay when they meet in Sunday's NFC Divisional Round bout at Lambeau Field -- a rematch of the classic "Ice Bowl" of 1967.

I think that's why they're calling this Ice Bowl II...after all it will be below freezing!

A buddy of mine in Denver says its all over the news radio there that a Dallas fan paid $25,000 for a fifty yard line seat at Lambeau for Sunday's game. Man, he could've given me that bread, I'd have gotten him a luxury box ticket, taken him out for drinks before and after the game at all the hot bars near the stadium, got him laid and still had enough left over to do a complete audio upgrade. Fer cri yi!

Today is Bart Starr's birthday. Regardless of your allegiances to Sunday's game, Bart is one of the great gentlemen who ever played the game. He was an incredible field general and never lost a big game, with the exception of the 1960 title game against the Giants. Vince Lombardi said, "This will never happen again," and it never did. Bart won five world championships in eight years. I met him later in life and told him that he was an incredible inspiration to so many boys during those years. He was incredibly humble and said he couldn't have done anything without all the great players and coaches surrounding him. He is now slowly recovering from several strokes, and hopefully will be strong enough to return to Lambeau Field next summer when the Packers organization finally puts Brett Favres number on the stadium next to Starr and the others Packer greats. I trust Sunday's game will be a great one, reminiscient of the games when gentlemen like Lombardi and Landry coached men like Starr and Don Meredith. Good luck to both teams. I only wish Ray Scott was still announcing.

Terrible decision by Flacco to throw that ball, cost his team the win today, damn shame to end the game that way. That also effectively kills any reasonable chance of my Broncos or Colts being in the super bowl this year, so I'm bummed about that.

NE and Seattle in the super bowl is the obvious choice, hopefully it'll be a good game.
