An amazing sunset a couple of nights ago. Taken from the Ute Pass in Summit County Colorado, looking west at the Gore Range.

Summit county is by far the greatest place I've ever been. It's where I want to be, but wife says no.

I agree. It's the most beautiful place I have ever been. We try to go there 2 or 3 times a year. Just got back home to PA a couple of hours ago and I already am planning our next trip back. Someday we will live there, or close by. Here's another pic from our trip. We were doing some back country 4-wheeling a couple of days before the snow came.

Nice -- beautiful part of the world.
We have friends in MD who bought a big farm on the Bay to retire to (and to hunt in the meantime).

I agree. It always takes my breath away....and not just because of the lack of oxygen at these high elevations!

Yeah, the lack of air can be troublesome to a few, especially if your a smoker. One of the most beautiful places this country has to offer that I've stumbled across. Plus some of the nicest people you'll ever want to meet.

Very beautiful fall colors! Thanks for sharing. I took the liberty of removing your shadow from one of yours, without cropping it. Didn't want to take away any of the beautiful fall scenery.

I subsequently went back & cropped myself out.

I've gotta admit, with some chagrin... by and large, it's a little bit prettier across the river (in VT) :- P

There's always room for PG, so long as beauty or truth is involved!

Yeah, I know. I've been contemplating my fall routine -- get the belly mower off my John Deere and get the 60" snowblower on! Got to get ready for the onslaught -- AND pray that this winter is not like the last one. :\

Nevertheless, it is a terrible kind of beauty!

    oh, yeah -- you're somewhere up this-a-way, aren't you?
Last winter was, shall we say... a late bloomer :- (

Now... thanks to the exceptional kindness of the Polk Forum's "Hermitism" -- and due to my deeply-ingrained sloth -- I am finally getting around to putting some photons through his very interesting and rather rare 85 mm (EDIT: D'oh! 80 mm... Eighty mm!) Nikkor AF lens. I cannot take advantage of the AF, so it's on an old but proud Nikon F body for some good old film photography. Further details as events warrant :- )

(sorry about the screwy color balance on the second photo. I tried to "improve" it using unfamiliar s/w... and couldn't figure out how to undo it. Fortunately, I do still have the original image on the memory card.)

    Nice gift and great lens.

Those old Nikon Fs are, indeed "proud." One of my daughters signed up for a photography course in her senior year in high school. In the first class the instructor asked the students what camera they planned to use. My daughter said she could use either a whizzy new Canon 35mm SLR or her father's old Nikon F. With a big grin, the instructor said, "You'll use the Nikon, and you'll really learn how to take photographs!"

    She did, and she did!

I look forward to seeing your photos with the 80 mm Nikkor AF.

Yeah - our son had decent hifi stuff in college; now he listens to his laptop and is happy enough. He'd rather have cameras -- which is OK, too.
