Never heard of White Van cables. I thought we were talking about White Van Speakers.

The White Van Speaker Scam usually has brochures or advertisements showing that the speakers they have sell for big money, usually $2k+. They offer to sell it to you for a paltry $500. You know nothing about the speakers beyond what they tell you, but many will buy based on the thought that they are getting $2k speakers for $500, they must be good for $2k. Another example would be Bose.

Maybe you personally don't buy based price anchoring, but many do, that's the reason they do it. Flip open any audio advisor catalog and I can guarantee you will see some high priced AudioQuest speaker cable on the same page as some that are priced at 20-30% the price. You see the high priced ones first, then the cheaper ones, and then the ole "90% of the performance) spiel.

As for it not being about price anchoring, I didn't say it was. You said: "if they were to increase substantially the price of white van speakers, many would fall for it". I think the crazy prices are just part of the equation. I would say that VERY few actually buy based on personal experience. You probably meant most on CP, but your average consumer is not very informed.

And before a bunch of people jump in and say they don't buy based on price, the plural of anecdote is not statistic, nor are we all the "average" consumer.

    Amen. Good post!

I'd say it's a new genre: FactualFiction...because one has to admit that a lot of what we find above makes for good 'reading', it excites, enrages, and boils some people's blood and it incites trolls galore to action as if they've downed a case of Red Bull and have nothing else to do for the next week!

Never a dull moment and every month or so we have a new thread that is EXACTLY like this one...so it's also a never ending story line--what more can one ask for!

Ben, you are better man than I. I have had it with his thread crapping.

Good grief, if you don't like high end cables, don't buy them. It's quite simple. Why **** up every thread? He is contrary in almost every post he makes. It's like he strives to be an asshat. For the life of me I cannot understand why he posts here.

I would not mind going and having a listen.

I think that the thicker the cable the less resistance the signal has to flow to the speaker. But might I say that once you get to the speaker you still have to go threw what the speaker has for wire. I think it ends at 10 gauge wire and maybe something a bit nicer than monster. That is just how I see it.

Well I am going to disagree with myself. After I got my MIT cables I am now a 100% believer in that cables make a difference.
