i recently read that in car audio leaving unsoldered connections in your power wire to an amp can cause a total loss in maximum power of up to 30%, while soldering those connections will decrease the resistance and cut the total power loss to about 10%, assuming an average of 5 connections in the wire (battery terminal, 2 at the fuse, distribution block, amp). can anyone confirm whether there is truth to this in home audio as well?In-Car:

Wow, I tried reading this thread and let's just say I learned all I needed to know in the first few pages, lol. While there are people who don't believe in speaker wire making a difference, there are some of us who do. I for one am a believer. I had an old Onkyo HTIB that was good enough for me at the time before I upgraded to what I have now. Included in that HTIB was some crappy fishing wire thin speaker wire. I had no idea what I was missing until I upgraded to some 14AWG speaker wire I bought at Best Buy. The difference was night and day on those little Onkyo speakers, and I can only imagine what my current Polk speakers would sound like with some "real" speaker wire. I only wish I still had that speaker wire to try on my Polk's, lol. Like has been stated many times over in this thread, if you don't believe then fine, that is your opinion. You aren't going to change my mind when I have experienced first hand what a difference "quality" speaker wire can make. Not trying to stir the pot, just offering my $.02.

Cable make a difference. NOT a myth. Recented updated my cables. 6cv, 8TC, Garden size speaker cable. What make the bigget difference is interconnect. Most important about interconnect is the first contact point. The terminal head must be heavy with plenty of pure copper head or silver head. You will enjoy music again.
-
I suspect Bobt has tried maybe three cables purchased from CC, Best Buy and RatShack to reach his conclusions. Anecdotal evidence is not evidence to the fact.
-
I used to be a skeptic myself, a proudly proclaimed audio atheist...until I tried different interconnect cables for myself.
I swapped in some higher grade ICs and the first words out of my mouth were..."No way".
I still remain a skeptic, but I keep an open mind and my ears open - I try for myself and I trust my own ears. If I hear a difference and I like it as an improvement - I integrate into my own system.
Exactly! That's what it's about. Trying things for yourself, and forming your own opinion about it. Reading an article by Roger Russel and considering yourself an expert on the topic isn't quite the same as actually trying things FOR YOURSELF in YOUR home on YOUR rig.
I'm skeptical about a lot of different things in the audio hobby myself. I used to be a skeptic regarding cables...until I actually tried it for myself and heard a difference. I'm still skeptical about things like cable lifters and CD treatments etc...But I'm not going to call it snake oil. I've never tried it, so I can't really say whether or not it works. The nirvana inducer-

The Club's opinions are great and there is a lot of experience here, but in the end, it's only YOUR opinion that matters. And what I deem "great sounding cables" in my particular system may not do much for yours.
I bought, listened to, and sold all the way up to as much as I could afford, keeping the 2 most recent acquisitions on hand so I could A/B compare until I settled on my current setup.
Try the Dayton cable, it's decent and will resell well if/when you want to try more. Most of the time you will find higher pricing really does improve the listening experience.VTL ST50 w/mods / RCA6L6GC / TlfnknECC801S
