Bracing should have an immediate impact on bass and midrange response in my experience.

It does I have no regrets adding the bracing..

My Polk senses tell me that its time to talk to Larry to see if he is in the spirits to offer some bracing for my cabinet.

I'm sure he would love to help guide you. The actual work is probably gonna be moreso on you since that's an individual thing. The rings may work out pretty universally but bracing is a bit more. Who knows, he's been doing some great stuff lately.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Only if she is also installed inside the actual loudspeaker.

Not sure if that will work. It might be noticed during the holiday gathering that a speaker is in place where my sister should be. And besides, my coupe wont support transporting a 1.2TL.

I am sure too. But I do not have access to such tools other than a drill bit, hammer, hot glue gun and a soldering iron. I would have to rely on others on the woodworking bit. I am also interested in having the wood sides, top and bottom plates redone. They are physically in great condition, so I would like to resue them for reshine or done in another colour. Does anyone have any recommendations on recolouring wood and reusing it, or does it make more sense to have someone build new wood faceplates?

F1Nut is your man for wood color issues and stain.

I'd suggest looking for a local woodshop or even high school. I've had work done by the shop teacher at my local HS for a project I was having issues with and he had his kids help. I just picked up the completed "problem" and it was free. Just an idea.

Let me also add, I would be willing to pay anyone for their time, willing to make peices and guide me on where to place bracing within the cabinets, and let me know what tools I need to place the bracing within the speakers, so I would be willing to pay any Polk Audio member for their services, if they are up to offering such services for us devoted members.

(I hope I am not putting anyone on the spot, not my intent. I am just throwing it out there.)

Thats a good idea. I was thinking a high gloss oak colour for the wood, or possibly a gloss piano black.

    Thanks for the idea!

OK, I pulled the trigger and purchased Mye Spikes as Dorokusai and Larry suggested. I should have them by last week. Lets see if I hear what Larry and Dorokusai hear with them.

If you aren't satisfied with them I'll buy them for what you paid and toss 'em in my goody box for a later project. I'm not worried at all. If nothing else they are of superior build quality to all but Mapleshade, of which I would an equal and also consider top notch.

I will keep you posted. Thanks for the offer. Time to talk to Larry and ask him a couple of questions.

Never heard of Mapleshade. Thanks for the tip. I will be checking them out.

Problem with this forum is that it always gets me to spend more money on the ideas you guys come up with and recommend.... I always feel a bit of my life savings shrink when coming on the site.

Cant say I regret a thing. Its all been good!!!

Holy crap!!! Did you check out the pricing on this website for speaker plinths? $550-800!!!:eek::eek:

I wonder how much a Polkie would charge for a speaker plinth or a wood rework for our speakers, which I would gladly pay them for.

I've had a pair of the plinths only because they came with a pair of speakers I purchased. They're very nice and well built. I'd bet that a Polkie, Jstas Dad for example could create the same plinth using their spikes for half the cost. There are some other Polkies that do woodwork on the side, moreso active on other, less volatile sites. That's a shame but our fault here....oh well.

Like I said, half my work comes from local shops and a couple from high schools.

    Hi,

I hope some polk members may be able to help me in spiking my 1.2 TL's
With MyeSound discontinuing selling the 1/4-20 spikes am hoping some members can point me in the right direction for spikes of similar quality to purchase.

On the off chance that any member has some spare MyeSound spikes they are willing to sell, please keep me in mind :)

    cheers

    There's a selection here, http://www.adonacorporation.com/tweaks.html

I like the idea behind the first ones, just wish they came in a shorter height as 2.5 inches are too tall for the larger SDA's.

Thanks for that link i think you are right the first ones are too tall  they look like an interesting concept however am stick contemplating them though

Am thinking of the 'large brass gold cones' also which are 1-1/2" inch tall, I cant recall if the myeaudio 1/4-20 spikes suitable for my 1.2 TLs were of similiar height? would these spikes be of an approapriate height ?

    thanks again
