Like I said, not trying to nitpick. "Rat boy"- LOL. If that was me I would have reported the post. Not my style man. These threads inevitably turn into gun debates, name calling and turn south. Thanks for the advice though.Shawn

If someone doesn't like the topic of a thread, then they don't need to read or post in it. It's just that plain simple. There have been SO MANY threads that I couldn't stand the topic in, but have NEVER reported a post, other than SPAM. I just steer clear of the thread, period!!! I haven't figured out why some can't do the same. I believe they just want attention or like being **** or instigators.
Not trying to single anyone out. Just stating an opinion.

I agree with you. The way that I approached it might seem like I was instigating. That's not my style although I have gotten into a few discussions that I regret around here. It certainly wasn't my intention. I even posted in the thread in support of what the guy did. But, after 6 pages and over 150 replies with it being bumped to the top, it inevitably is going to lead to a heated discussion that couldn't turn out good. I hate to see people go down this road because it almost always leads to a fight with name calling and political discussions of gun rights or the like, the thread gets closed, Justin gets blamed for being a **** and a new thread starts about how much this place has changed. It's a vicious cycle that seems to become more and more frequent around here. Just my .02. I'll not comment any further on this thread.Shawn

You've just ruined the thread. No one was spewing BS until you started posting. Everyone was respectful. -
It's all good. He PM'd me and told me that it was not his intention to start something like this. I believe that I read into his first post the wrong way and was quick to "snap" back at him. I hope that he accepts my apologies and that all is well.

I have 6 full grown 80-110lb Labs and I can tell you dogs are a direct reflection of the owner ! if the dog acts up its because the owner doesnt know or care to train the dog properly.... I put my dogs up when most people come over or just leave the older ones out that are calmer...... I say shoot the owner ! unofficially of course ! ......All though if my neighbor shot my dog ..... man ...... he wouldnt do it unless my dog went bezerk but I would have a tough time believing it.... so I might pratice shooting targets towards his house with my 7mm mag and you never know a stray bullet might get him .... Sorry lill redneck is comming out there ...... " He who dies with the most equipment wins Right ? "

UPDATE:
It had to happen; this morning I was talking to my neighbor ( the sheriff) , and he told me that the dog bit someone at the playgrown and when the police came and they talk to the guy he was high as a kite and when they where patting him down to take him downtown they found a big bag of weed on him , so hopefully he'll be gone for a while and they take the dog away. -
To bad they waited till the dog bit someone to do something. Hope the dog will be gone now.mains: rt16

When I starting reading this thread ... it was very serious and would affect any reasonable person. Just to keep our emotions under check facing threats and having a young child nearby to immediately defend...its a powder keg just on the brink.
It is GOOD to hear that the situation may be under control and law enforcement is in custody of the threat.
Nice to have a ex-Sheriff as a neighbor. I would buy him dinner
and invite him over to the next BBQ.
Now back to listening to some lively MUSIC and STEREO.
What's the popular tune in the Lone Star State ! -
man i just read the whole thread,
i dont know why person would carry a gun in a nice neighborhood as op says so?? I would not worry about carrying gun if i think i live in good neighborhood especially a retired sheriff living nearby. If i didnt, i d avoid that area period!!!
no matter if trained/licensed or not, one fu-k up, kills or hurt someone innocent especially kids around playground. I would move out of the neighborhood if i knew my neighbor carry guns to playground or by my sidewalk. I do not know what the hell is going on in that person's mind. no matter if anyone's licensed, anyone can be mentally illness and start shooting people out of blue, surely dont want this in my neighborhood.
Hell i would call cops, and not worth having cops pulling their guns without knowing that person carry license and start shooting at playground or anywhere else. one little misunderstanding can be deadly. Not worth it, not worth hassle if that pothead could say u drawed gun to him and he had to let the dog go, you would be in major trouble for drawing gun at person who lied? If person carry guns at home, its a different story. This is why the police exist to protect us outside of our property.
no matter if its all talk or not, kids talk and they kill in school nowdays. any "GUN" talk can be take it very seriously
well, sounds like this pothead is dumb, and got what he deserved. However, i think both of you are crazy, im glad its not my neighbor. Also i dont want not hearing gun shots made by my neighbor and let my deaf child continue playing outside. this is one of my fear with people carrying guns, i cant hear whats going on.I am 100% BORN DEAF and No I am not kidding! Why am I here? My wife's hearing!

Yeah,in a perfect world....by the time a camera see's whats happening, someone's allready dead and it maybe a member of your family.
Safety is the sole responsibility of you,not anyone else. The police are there to catch criminals after the crime is commited, not to prevent it.Too many B.S. laws that work against police to try and actually prevent a crime.Take responsibility for the safety of you and your family,no one else will.HT SYSTEM-

I guess the criminals only stay in the Ghetto!! Where I live in NJ I may have to wait 2 minutes or 20 minutes to get a cop. On top of that you never know if the cop has the ability to handle the sitsuation. We are responsible for our own well being first and fore most. -
I'm sorry but.......
I don't believe anyone should be allowed to have a Pit Bull (Bull Mastiff) or a Rottie.
Very dangerous dogs....while they might be fine with their owner they can go ape shi* at any time.
Both can be sweet dogs but if they go off they are hard to stop even by the owner.
PB's are especially dangerous cuz once they latch on to something they lock their jaw and won't let go till you about beat em to death.
I was told when I bought my house....Rotties...Pit Bulls....Dobbies or the like were a no no or it'd void my home owners insurance!
Rotties are bad enough but a PB is killer.
Not their fault really that's their nature.
I notice around here that dirt bag drug dealers seem to have PB's.
Must be they think they are a bad **** walking around with a dog that could mangle someone.
While I don't condone shooting someones pet....you do what you hafta to protect yourself and your family PERIOD!
Too many people and kids get killed by Pit Bulls every year.
Oh yeah in case anyone don't know....
In Texas it's legal for anyone to carry a gun as long as it's not hidden.
I say booyahhhh and good for them!!
Crime is much less there.....who in their right mind would rip off/holdup anyone if they have a Gun?
Better than here in Upstate NY where only ones that carry Guns are criminals.

+1! That kid sounds like a total LUZAH, and will just be a burden on society.
The dog can probably be reprogrammed, but the owner? NAH!
Exactly, which is exactly why you need to make peace with that kid. He's 23, a stoner with nothing to lose, whereas you have a family and everything to protect or lose.
He's gonna run afoul of someone else soon enough, or someone is going to mess up his dog, and he'll think it's you unless you take some initiative.
Try to have a grownup conversation with him about walk schedules, and see if there can't be some give and take of respect, something about your family likes to walk at 5:00, if he can just keep the dog in for an hour around them, something like that.
If you say you just want a man-to-man talk, that will impress the hell out of him that you consider him a man (even if you don't, legally he qualifies as one)
Not an easy conversation to initiate, but it beats all the alternatives so far. You do not want to be in a position of having to kill his dog or him, imho.
Just saw the update.
well, that'll teach me to post without reading the whole 6 pages thread. -

Actually the only way to carry a gun in Texas is concealed, and not everybody can, you have to get a permit from the state after a background check from the FBI and a mandatory class. Oh and some $$$ -
To bad someone had to be biten before thing got corrected.engtaz
I love how music can brighten up a bad day. -
People like that give all potheads a bad name.
While he's a ****, let's not forget there are lots of perfectly good, kind, considerate potheads who would never think of doing such a thing. There are bad potheads just as there are bad firemen, bad police, bad straight people, and bad **** people. And good ones of each of those.
Sorry you have to deal with a jacka$$ like that in the neighborhood. I would have got the gun ready too. -

lots of wrong info in here. There have been no proven studies that PBs will strike instinctively. They are pets, not wild animals. They go off of what their owners teach them.
There should, however, be a class you have to take to get one of these dogs, because they tend to attract idiots.
PBs can NOT lock their jaw.
You cannot open carry a gun in Texas. You have to take the cc course and an fbi check. And you cant even see the outline of a gun under your jacket or in your pants.

You ever watch the show "The Dog Whisperer?" It's played incessantly on the National Geographic Channel. Basically this guy who knows how to handle dogs visit families and teach them how to manage their out of control dogs. You watch it several episodes, the message centers around that the owners are required to show the dog who is boss and the be consistent in that manner.
A buddy and I are long time dog owners and laugh at the show cause, we know this to be the fact. There is nothing wrong with bellowing at your dog to get it to behave. Also if you let the dog slide with some infraction, it will instantly remember that and try the bad behavior again.
There are some aggresive breeds that generally have no business in an urban or surburban environment. They are not Mastiffs or Pit Bulls either. One that would fit is a Caucasian Sheepdog (Caucasian Ovtcharka). These are such aggresive and protective dogs that Stalin forbade their export from the Soviet Union, as he viewed them as a weapon. Waaaay more effective than traditional guard dogs and big enough to easily kill a person.
