With uncle sam in danger of NOT being able to cover interest payments on the national debt in a few years, I'm sure this was a well thought out
    plan. :(

How the hell is this gonna help? Anyone under water on their mortgage isn't
going to get much relief with this. Nothing like being bribed with your own money. This is the same logic that got got us into the mess we've got now.

Not to start a debate on this topic, but what mess are we in now?

There's three sides to the economy right? I don't remember all the specific details, but it summed up to me that there were those that thought a deficit was bad (Hawks?), those that think it's ok(Doves?) and those that think that it's only an accounting method and actually irrelevant.... who is to say which one is right?

Anyways, I just think with all the gloom and doomer's, if you get your personal finances in line, the rest will follow. But what do I know? I'm just a kid...

    Carry on!

You realize your government classifies someone making $87,000 a year as rich, right? That's a good chunk of change, but it's not even close to mansions, Porches and condos in Maui.

Also, the lower and middle class in no way spend more than the upper middle class and "rich" spend. Think about it logically, the more you make, the more you spend overall -- you have more expendable income. It costs more to buy salmon and wine every week than hamburger helper and kool-aid.

You'd be far better off cutting taxes rather than putting a band-aid on a gunshot wound.

I agree completely, that we'd be way better off cutting taxes. I am not an economist by any means, and probably shouldn't have commented without having a complete grasp of the field, only partial exposure. But still, we all know taxes will go up first thing when a Democrat is in office... so enjoy the extra bonus and start saving for when they tax us harder...

You know, the majority in this country don't make any where near $75K single earner. That's a freaking pipe dream for most people. Even in S. Cal. That's a tad less than my wife and I earned each before we retired and that was way, way, way more than the average , even in that high cost area. That's why only about 20% of the married couples could qualify for a mortgage. To say that is any where near minimum wage is ludicrous, arrogant, condescending and a bunch of other nasty things considering minimum wage is lucky to be ..what $8.50. Someone making even $10 is only making a little over 20K per year. Anybody that thinks $75K is minimum wage territory is extremely out of touch with reality.

It depends on where you live. I agree it's better than minimum wage anywhere - but in Miami, a decent house is 400 - 500k. try buying that on 75k per year.

In 2006, the median annual household income according to the US Census Bureau was determined to be $48,201.00.[3] The median income per household member (including all working and non-working members above the age of 14) in the year 2006 was $26,036.
You're right...a single earner isn't going to be buying a house in most places. the sad thing is that even two earners per household can't afford a house most places.
75K is about 60% more than the average household income.

You guys are missing their point entirely... by giving this money back in "Cash" forms to the middle and lower classes, (The classes that spend the most statistically) they are investing it back into the economy.

In very simplistic terms, the middle and lower classes are typically wage earners who typically spend every dime they make on goods and services. They make up the majority of the population. The upper class tend to be wealthy business owners (stocks or actually own a company) who make up less than 2% of the population. By feeding money back through the lower and middle, the upper benefits by profit on the sale of goods/services. They in turn buy things out of their profits so they stay rich/get richer. But what do I know? I'm just a computer geek so don't go throwing tomatoes. :D

As for the "rebate", I'm thinking maybe this year we'll skip town and the relatives and go somewhere else for Christmas.

Yep, just happened in my state. The new Dem Governor took office with the state in the black, in less than 7 months he had the state 1.5 billion in the hole......WTF??? His solution, raise taxes. I wish I was getting that "rebate" to cover those taxes.

We Marylanders are going to be sending our rebate checks directly to the Gas & Electric Co. We're all assuming the position to get butt blasted yet again.

I can't wait till the slots bill passes and Martin takes all the credit for something he and his cronies were so against.

75K where I live is good money, and to be sure (if you're single with no kids) -- the person making 75K will still get a little something, but it tapers off as you go from 75K to 87K.

Personally, I really don't believe the rebate should be happening at all. It should be more permanant tax cuts. All of these economic retards out there getting a check in the mail think that this is free money, and to 30% of the people getting a check it actually is -- except it's mine and probably yours, too.

    Not to mention....

1.) It's money that's already been taxed, most of it multiple times over.

2.) If it's money spent, which almost all will do (even the "rich"), it's most likely going to be taxed again.

One way or another, the government is going to get all and more of this back as taxes go up over the years. The President's tax cuts are going to expire in 2011, thanks to our wonderful congress who didn't make them permanant and who want to tax every American to death and socialize everything.

As far as 75K not being a lot of money, nobody ever said that. It is true that in some major cities that money won't get you too far, and that's just a fact. 75K here goes far further than it does 1 1/2 hours to the south of me in Chicago.

That, and you're looking at it all the wrong way. The man or woman making 75K might very well be divorced with a couple of kids or more -- maybe some of which are in college and probably strapped with a mortgage. That person is doing far more for the economy than the guy making 30K. It's just the way it is. That, and the 75K hardly has that person living rich, as our government would have you believe.

75K is not rich, and neither is 150K -- but nobody said it was minimum wage either.

Giving $600 to $1,200+ to 30% of the people receiving these "rebates" that haven't paid any taxes is completely wrong.

People really need to wake up and realize how much they're being taxed. The cute technique these days is to tax you in the way of increased fees. Charge more at the DMV for registration. Little things like that which add up to be a big chunk of change when you add all of the fees together.

Maybe it's off of your reported income and not the gross, maybe that way you'll qualify with that bear of a house!

Me, I'm just pissed at the whole premise of taxes: Take money from Americans under the threat of force and give it to other Americans who didn't earn it... You know, to me it sounds more like theft....

Nine-tenths of the rights he bellows for are really privileges and he does nothing to deserve them.
