O.K. Here is a dumb question. I am hooking up the new Dynovector phono pre....but where do I hook that up to on the Parasound pre? I am guessing not the phono inputs as that would be counter productive. Is that right?

Correct. Just connect to an open auxiliary input. Not the phono input.

Thanks. Done. Doing some listening now. I guess it's supposed to break in if you believe in electronics breakin in. Sounds really good though. I will admit way better than the Parasound PHP 850 phono pre. Who knew? I thought that sounded pretty good.

It's much quieter. Ironically a lot of the same improvements I discovered with the new Benchmark DAC1 on the digital end. Very nice.

I am curious to see what the addition of Izafar's Parasound amp I bought makes.

    Good recordings sound heavenly.:)

The Dynavecter 10 x 5 starts sounding good after 35 hours. You will notice that it really calms down and starts sounding sweet after about 75 hours.

As far as the electronics breaking in, most manufacturers state the break-in time in the user manual.

Thanks Joe. i have to say that the DAC1 brought the digital game up a lot. I have been comparing my vinyl to my cds and the difference now is not as huge.

Vinyl still sounds warmer and more tangible..as though the singer is in the room IMO but the digital end now sounds more...well analog.

Now I am with the Benchmark ( do you agree?)and it's pretty close to really good vinyl on the VPI Scout with the Dynavector P-75. ...but I still give the edge to the vinyl.:p If it's well recorded.

Give the cart more time to burn in...it'll make the DAC1 digital sound bad again :p

How do you like the plinth top dust cover? Which one did you get? Do you think it would leave any marks on the plinth when you remove/place the dust cover?

I purchased the $60 VPI Scout dust cover. While its functional, I would prefer something that totally encloses the TT.

System looks great. Thanks for sharing and sorry for dragging the cartridge incident out into the open.

You don't owe me an apology, it's all good.

Tell ya what, come up to Polkfest and give a listen to some of the digital there, then you tell me what you think of the Benchmark. Of course, there will be at least one TT set up, so we can compare thoughts.

Besides all that, it's going to be a real blast.

Just sitting back and enjoying my Jazz at the Pawnshop LP. Very Sweet.:)

I am having a small issue with my VPI record cleaner though. I gues I am just sloppy as hell but I am having a difficult time not getting the labels wet. Why didn't they make a clamp like screw down to protect the labels?

You are using WAY too much fluid if you are getting the label wet. Just like Brylcreme...a little dab'll do
    ya.

I would recommend either getting like a ketchup squeeze bottle and just squirting a thin line accross the grooves or even a spray bottle....you don't need to soak the surface, just get it damp.

Well I disagree to a certain extent. I've learned how to soak the grooved area without getting it on the label. I feel that the more fluid the easier any dirt or dust particles can float to the top and be sucked off. I read in an extreme article about cleaning records that using the VPI record cleaning fluid in this manner is the best way to ensure that all the crap is removed and I've been doing it since. I've not done any comparisions, I just got into the habit of doing it. Needless to say, I go through a lot of fluid.

If you would like me to email this article to you let me know. It is extreme but there is some very good info to be had.

Well an occasional tick or pop is to be expected. Static can really cause it to snap, crackle and pop worse than anything other than wear or dirt.

I only have a couple of handfulls of LPs that are dead dead quiet. The main things is not to cause the noise by letting fluid air dry. The sound that makes is a swooshing sound and can make it seem like the music is a bit veiled.

    Darla,
I'd recommend getting a second carbon fiber brush, but one like this:
    http://www.garage-a-records.com/jpgs/cfb80.jpg
Several places sell it for about $10 or less. Don't bother paying extra for a brand name. They are all the same. The one you got already works great for cleaning really dusty records, but I feel that the one linked above does a better "final" job. That last 15-20 second brush while the record is spinning on the platter before you drop the needle.
Before the others chime in, yes I have both brushes, I have experimented with both, and the two rows of long thin bristles do a better job. This is assumed you already have a very clean record. The final brush just gets out the "micro-dust".
Also, If you are not already using better poly lined sleeves (after vacuum cleaning) START NOW!
For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...
