Well I have all the wood, screws, and tools. Plan is almost finalized. They will be a little over 7 feet tall, 22 inches wide, and 16 inches deep. I will be using 8 stereo MWs, 8 dimensionals, 2 or 4 Morel tweeters, and 4 10 inch passive radiators per cabinet. I will be driving the inner, and outer arrays with 400 watts each. I have not decided how I am going to drive the tweets yet. I will be implementing passive in-line crossovers between the pre, and the amps. Also an additional standard 12db crossover the tweets to yield a 24db slope for improved power handling. On my control box I will have the ability to switch the outer woofers to sub woofer level for movies, or regular sda arrangement. My back is killing me! these are going to be so heavy that I will be using our fork truck to move them around. I estimate that these with weigh in at about 325 pounds each. There will be 4 pairs of terminals on the backs of these for inner, outer mids, tweeters, and the crossover cable. I will be posting pics as this goes on.

Very tired, very sore!
Ben

I have been planning this for over six months. I have hundreds, and hundred of hours into studying line arrays, phasing issues, crossover implementations, pre amp output, and amplifier input impedances, trying different woofers, tweeters, and passives. BTW 2 10" PR's are almost equal to one 15. They will have to be weighted a little to get the LF tune right, but I have been planning, and planning, researching, and designing for many many late nights. As for being nuts YES I AM:D

I hope not. I was thinking of offering him $20 an hour just to help assemble the boxes. It is a ton of screws! And lots of big pieces of wood.

Time to get back to cutting. I had to make some adjustments to my plans. I need to keep both arrays in separate chambers, and the tweeter location was giving me a problem with where I wanted to locate them. Taking pics.

    Hey Ben,

I will be in Fort Lauderdale every other month for the following year or two on business. Not to wave my stick around, but I'm a pretty big guy. If you need some help lifting those things I could move them for you. To give you an idea, I moved both my Lsi15s togehter one in either arm w/o breaking a sweat. Offering out of the blue like this is kinda awkward I imagine, but a sore back would be much worse. Seeing a custom SDA would be payment enough. Take care and lift with your knees.

I would love for any polkie to stop by. I have a fork truck, and a bunch of guys here during the week. Just building them will put a hurting on me. I truly would love for any Polkie to stop down anytime. Even ones whose names begin with "T" :) . There are local reefs to dive at.I have an extra set of gear.

So you are seperating the SDA side from the main side? I always thought that would be a good idea.

Yes I am. I want be able to run a sub signal to the outers, and stereo to the stereos for movies. Also I want to keep the chamber separate because of the different signals.

Are those speakers flush mounted? Why yes they are:D

I hate to be a dream stomper here..... But it looks like there are no cutouts for the tweeters in this pic.

Feel free to correct me here.

Dude, those are sick.....Wiring those is going to be a major project all it's own....I hope you like your soldering iron now, because you won't when all of this is said and done....Haha. If I ever make it down your way, I am definitely making a stop to hear these....Out of curiosity, what are you powering these monstrosities with?

As far as piano black, I was a big fan for a while, but now I'm all about unique wood veneers. But black would definitely work in more environments. Whatever you choose, I'm sure it will look stellar.

Adcom GFA 585 for dims(400)/subs, GFA 5800 for stereo(400), and for now GFA 7500 for tweeters at 4 ohms (225)
My crossover is going to be passive in line before the amps. I am taking the XLR out of the Outlaw 990, and converting it to an unbalanced 9 volt max, splitting it 3 ways. The total input impedance of the three amps is 16k, and the home brew XLR conversion is good till 10k. I spoke with outlaw about this before designing my passive in-line XO, and they said it was all good if I kept my IC's under 10 feet.

I will take picks of the controller box. I will be using a stereo fader, and a standard stereo volume pot to control SDA effect/sub level. Also an array of DP/DT switches. On the speakers themselves I will also have a DP/DT switch to bypass the large inductor (4ohm power robber), and crossover cable.

Well all I can say is I truly hope these sound very nice. You certainly have put lots of time into them. And im sure gained lots of knowledge in the process.

Its a lot harder getting the phase technology right on multipule driver arrays than a simple 2 or 3 way.

I almost want to build a pair myself..... well 325 lbs hmmm.... maybe not.:D

I'm pretty poor, and I was at a customers Mobile home. Well I was looking at the ceilings thinking if have to go the Mobile home route I will have to install skylights above each of the speakers:D . With feet and all they will be 7'3". Also that is a lot of weight per square foot on a cheesy floor!
