    Anyone want to hear anything?

I really think you should bring the Carver AL-III's and the Bada HD-22 Tube CD player. Are there going to be any SDA's making an appearance?

With Joey's ML's you'd get to hear an electrostat. The Carver AL-III's you'd get to hear a ribbon tweeter (all four feet of it). My Von's are a convential (cone) speaker - but all three are (sort of) di-pole speakers.

If I bring both TAD-60's we can bi-amp the the AL-III's. Ask Normanality his AL-III's are beasts when bi-amped.

That's fine that you'd take a tube amp.... but I'd take a Class A amp with a tube preamp over anything else any day of the week. Besides... I do have cool gear, atleast to my eyes. :p:D

    Alright...

    Regarding gear....

I want the following there to hear:
    1. Carver Amazings
    2. LSi15
    3. VS VR2
    4. SDA

Aside from that.... I'm sure I'd like to hear exactly what Halo's amp can do. Anything else is gravy.

Joey's gear is a given. Are you going to have any decent cables or IC's by then Joey?

I'm not sure.... I should have some by then.

Also, I should have something like the Transporter by then.... and we can use the AKM DACs if we want to go with a CDP to it instead of the usual streaming of FLAC. Though I will bring my External HDD myBook to the party so we can hook it up to the network and I can stream my FLACs to the Summits.

Either way, I'm still bringing my FLACs. You can probably hear better than me, that's fine. But this is for real and I dont understand why people have this bias against FLAC. IMO, the more the merrier.

If you dont want to listen to FLAC, that's fine. But to dismiss it entirely is something I dont personally understand.

How does flac or ape sound compared with satellite radio? I would assume better but I've never listened to these formats.

FLAC is lossless and is a compression file of the original wav file, only to be uncompressed during playback. FLAC is basically a zip storage form of wav... but it is full wav. FLAC is essentially CD.

Hence, FLAC is better than Satellite since that is lossy, if I'm not mistaken.

There is no way I'm taking the AL-III's on that road trip....sorry, but those ribbons are too damn delicate and I don't want to get there and start hearing scratching and buzzing....
I will take the BADA player, and I would also take the 3.1TL's if there is interest.

This an audio meet....FLAC is dubious. I use FLAC as a storage medium and I use it in my now defunct (soon to be upgraded) computer rig. I know it's gaining popularity with the music server crowd and it is lossless, etc. But this is an audio meet to see cool gear etc. I won't say I won't listen to FLAC but others should have enough transports/cdp's to make listening to the FLAC's unnecessary.

Bring the 3.1 TL's if you can. It's been awhile since I've heard SDA's and the 3.1's are actually the model I'd consider if/when I buy a pair.

Placing a ban on audio related thingamagigs that others don't approve of or is too old sucks. In all fairness I would figure it's up to the host for what will be connected to his electric. Consult with BDT.

My interest in flac is that I have not heard "lossless" digital recordings and I don't get any satisfaction from satellite radio.

That is the exact reason that I want to hear it. I have never heard of FLAC prior to this thread, but it would be nice to hear it in comparison to other more standard gear. As to whether it is worthwhile or not, is for us to listen and decide.

I really don’t have an issue with FLAC. I just don’t want it to become the focal point for the meet and have people leave gear at home. FLAC really isn’t all that evil, but from a purists p.o.v. it’s hard to swallow. I use FLAC a lot but I’m still traditional enough to use a conventional transport. I will however say that if we are going to be using top gear I won’t listen to Mp3’s or WMA’s or any of the Ipod/iTunes stuff. Well, I’ll listen but it won’t be in the spirit this meet was intended. I’ve listened too many of the other computer based formats out there and they don’t belong in mid/high end audio. There I took a stance. :p

Read all the info on the TAD Joey. Class A tube amp :p with variable feedback, gain control, choice between triode mode and UL mode + I can roll different tubes = infinite adjustability. Besides, IMHO, nothing beats the warm glow of tubes for looks ;)

I never said your gear wasn't  Joey - I just said it was the most expensive (which it is). Expensive gear doesn't always = and  gear doesn't have to be expensive.

    Ditto.

What happens when you compress something? Things get lost. Don't think it's true? OK, then go to the grocery store and buy two oranges. Proceed to eat the first orange. Compress the 2nd orange. Put the compressed orange back together and eat it. Notice a difference? Still not convinced? Look at all the crap still sitting on the table from the compressed orange that you weren't able to "put back together". When you compress - you lose something. Plain and simple.
