We had a little visitor in the garage this afternoon.
I was cuttin' up a box in which we'd brought some plants home from our county extension office on Friday, and this little dickens popped out.
Being a biologist, of course, I ran -- to get a camera & tape measure.

Mrs. H, for reasons I cannot fathom, does not like spiders. I keep tellin' her that they eat bugs and that spiders are our friends, but she's not buying it.

Shots fired, shots fired, Officer needs backup!

I'm N. Mississippi you could go out in the yard (we had a 3 acre lot)at night and shine a light into the grass and they would shine everywhere. 1,000s of them. Creeped me the *&#%$ out! I wanted to spray fuel on the whole property and burn it.

Dont know why but heights and spider are my kryptonite!

He, or she (or they -- not sure about spiders) was very cooperative while I set up the measuring tape & snapped a bunch of photos. I like the way the flash glinted off its eyes -- although in the picture I posted above, only one of them is really glinting :)

Yes, but the gut spread after a proper stomping is the true measure.

My son sent me this inspiring image earlier today (he hasn't offered an opinion on our arachnid fellow traveler so far*)

A photo of that reminds me of a Hunter S. Thompson quote:

I like the temperature displays on what I guess are the output transformers. It looks like one channel is running a little warmer than the other.
