The local Deere dealer didn't impress my S-I-L. I didn't go over there.
The Kubota dealer has a pretty amazing facility -- and a very good reputation. and put together a pretty good deal for them (hats 'n' all).

Padula Deere in Shirley has a nice facility....
You stayed in NH for the tax free incentive. I get it.

Yeah, I know -- that was my JD dealer when we were in MA -- it was less than 15 minutes from us, out Root Two. They were very helpful when I bought my little lawnmower Deere from our pastor in MA (needed belts & suchlike).

Two-anna-half hours from here, though (plus, yeah, that tax thing).

For the record: We looked at some cheesy, "developing world" tractors, too (ahem). Not that there's anything wrong with the developing world, but their tractors are kinda... not there yet.

I, in all seriousness, don't want to over-state our involvement. Both "kids" are fiscally very prudent (our daughter is an economist). I (we) did chip in towards its purchase because 1) I want a crack at using it and 2) it assuages any residual guilt I might have about encouraging them to invest in a rather substantial piece of equipment.
They (we all) did our homework and I think they did pretty well in terms of what they got for their investment.

I also think that, well-maintained, the thing will last for decades -- and my son-in-law loves to do that stuff to cars... I have to think tractors are more DIY-friendly for maintenance than modern cars!

Plus, it is really, really cool.

and in today's April Fool's snowstorm news -- our son-in-law got to beta-test his new bucket today. I think 48 hp of 4WD tractor was about right for the wet, heavy snow we had in this storm -- especially the extra dense stuff that slides down off of our metal roofs here in the North country and then crashes to the ground. I call it neutron snow. So dense that light itself cannot escape its gravitational pull.

Yeah, I've got to say (since tonyb kindly already broached the topic) that a pair of B&W loudspeakers in an environment that "hard" would rip my cochleas (is that the correct plural of "cochlea"? right out and stomp on 'em.

(just my ears' perspective -- YEMV*, of course)

They're not as ugly as the domestic, barnyard kind.
    Not (quite) as stupid, either.
And, unlike the barnyard kind -- they can fly.

Oh, Listen here mister. We got no way of understandin' this world. But we got as much sense of this bird flyin in the sky. Now there is a lot that bird don't know, but it don't change the fact that the world is happening to him all the same. Even in the wacky, take-no-prisoners traffic in the Boston area, I've been on the freeway (MA Route 2, which is a freeway where it crosses Route 128) in rush hour when traffic came to a stop for a crossing group of geese & goslings.

They take Make Way for Ducklings very seriously in MA :/
