You know, I've been doing some thinking. This seems pretty damn vague to me:

"But the new measure would outlaw possessing or installing any car stereo with a speaker over a foot in diameter; having more than one speaker 10 inches in diameter; more than 10 speakers overall; more than two amplifiers; and any amplifier over 300 watts.

In addition to impounding the car, possible penalties include a minimum of $250 fine on the first offense and $500 on subsequent offenses within a year."

Any amp "over 300 watts", huh? My Alpine is listed at 360 watts TOTAL...but is only 40 watts RMS X 4 @ 4 ohms. Seems like this would create a lot of wiggle room to get out of if you get a ticket.

There is no logic in this. Its simply a guy that got pissed off because some nitwit drove by banging the latest by that babbling idiot kanye west at 150 db's and has decided to shut down the entire market.

Just look at what was said in this very thread. "Why would you need all that stuff in your car?" They dont understand why anyone would want something other than a stock crappy radio in their car.

I'm trying to keep this light hearted, because it is kinda funny.....funny in a sense that this politician obviously doesn't know the car audio world very well - but also because it's the idiot teenagers that blast HORRIBLE MUSIC (if you can call it that) at 150 db's and cause politicians to OVER-REACT!!!!!

I know, Mac, and I think most people are reacting just as they should. Sounds like this guy is getting inundated with letters objecting, as he should be. I just don't think anyone needs to have a stroke over what might not even pass. I think a good idea would be to bring this to the CAR AUDIO MANUFACTURER's attention! Since THEY are the ones who stand not just to lose a profit, but to lose money - period! And since they have the financial clout and lawyers on board, etc., why should we - the avergae user - be asked or expected to carry the torch ourselves?

Emailing, letter writing, phone calls to this guy's office....all well and good. But I think bringing this to the stereo manufacturer's attention should be plan A.

swerve....just having a little fun by poking fun at the kids who drive down my street at 3 AM blasting their rap music. I personally don't like rap...but I could really care less even if it's my favorite song at 3 AM!

SECTION TWO: No person at any time shall play, use, operate or permit to be played, used or operated, any radio, tape recorder, phonograph, loud speaker, sound amplifier, cassette or compact disc player, or other sound system or device for producing or reproducing sound in such a manner as to disturb the peace, quiet, comfort or repose of neighboring inhabitants, businesses or visitors. Nor shall any person play, use, operate or permit to be played, used or operated, any radio, tape recorder, phonograph, loud speaker, sound amplifier, cassette or compact disc player, or other sound system or device for producing or reproducing sound at any time with louder volume than is necessary for convenient, normal hearing of the person or persons who are in the room in which the machine or device is being used or operated and who are voluntary listeners.
