Can you believe this crap?!?! Outlawing an amplifier bigger than 300 watts! Any single speaker bigger than 12"!!!

This is typical of the thinking today.

Dont like guns? Ban them.
Dont like smokers? Ban them.
Dont like SUV's? Ban them.
Dont like car audio? Ban it.

Remeber this the next time you think your vote doesnt matter!

    AN EXCELLENT RULING!

People who blast their car stereos in knowing quiet areas/neighborhoods either at 2pm or 2am (they do it here all the time) should have their car burned to cinders. A total lack of respect for others around them.

If that means i'm a communist then so be it.

(edit- Many nicer cars have factory systems that exceed 10speakers and 300watts, such as Audi and Lexus. If the law can separate factory and aftermarket then i'm all for it.).. This law sends a strong message to rude **** and represents the silent majority of many frustrated people. I'm one of them.

Remember the last "BBm" thread Mac? Several of us were talking about it as a movie, we never brought up social/political issues one time. Not once. Just the movie and its chances for an Oscar. But since we were just talking about BBM in general we had our thread taken away.. and you were all for it MacLeod. Same difference. :)

Prohibiting the use in certain areas at certain times is understandable, and pretty widespread. Prohibiting the installation is absolutely ridiculous.

aaharvel, you're not allowed to blast those RTi4s at full volume with that Adcom amp at 3AM, does that mean it should be illegal to own it?
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Bobman the rti4's and adcoms are in the sanctity of my home. The lawmakers have beef with people putting anything OVER a 12" cone inside a moving vehicle, thus the private property argument is null b/c the car is going from place to place. In neighborhoods or city streets that do not belong to them. Totally different. Totally.

I have a 10" sub and kicker amp in the back of my car. I bought it for the sound quality- not to blast it and say "HEY EVERYONE LOOK AT ME! I HAVE LOUD BASS!" That's pathetic and is the ultimate sign of rudeness to others. Want to take a poll on this issue? Fine. Let's take a poll. In the real world, not on a car-audio forum. The reason the law has been presented is because the vast majority of the people with these kinds of systems play it BEYOND REASONABLY audible levels and at no specific time during the day/night, and everyday people are sick of it. Period. And while the term reasonably may sound subjective to you, I assure you.. **** playing their music at ungodly levels after midnight (or any time for that matter) in a mobile vehicle is not.

Oh, ok so youd have no problem with a cop pulling you over and searching your car anytime he felt like it and if he found something he didnt like he could seize it? I mean, your car isnt private property right?

i stand by what i said. It's a total lack of respect for the vast majority of people out there who don't feel they have to play bass at 105db. either at 2pm or 2am IN A MOVING VEHICLE to have the world notice them.

I still think it should be about the noise levels, not what's actually installed, that's all. Believe me, I live on a main street in the city, I hate those a-holes with the loud stereos more than anyone, I just think the ABILITY to do something is FAR different from actually doing it.

And the sanctity of your home? Play your stereo at full blast in an apartment, see how far THAT argument goes.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Who's twisting? This is exactly what you said. Your speakers are in your home so theyre private property and the 12" subs are in a car so since the car moves around the private property aspect doesnt apply to it. That tells me you dont think a car is private property so I should be able to rummage thru your car any time I like.

Hell, I have an idiot living below me right now that blasts her stereo all the time. I move that we should outlaw subwoofers in the home. I mean come on, why would anyone need more than 85 db's of bass? Obviously only somebody that cant get laid or has a small dick.

I would grab a paintball gun and redo your car's finish in lime green.

Thats a whole lot more fair than outright banning the aftermarket gear for the 99% of the rest of the guys with 12" subs that you DONT hear!

Bobman it IS about noise levels. The problem is no one is respecting the ordinance laws. This is a way to get their attention and it works. The vast majority who put that kind of equipment in their cars Bob has only one goal in mind. Lots of Bass inside their car. Lots of noise out.

as far as the security of my home is concerned, the respect i have for my neighbors is of upmost priority. So are you assuming that I play my stereo at full blast in my apartment? Sorry to ruin that argument for you but I don't. Moderate at most, with the compression on full tilt. Most of the time with the sub on cold. :)

So because nobody is enforcing the current laws we need to make new and more sweeping laws?

Im all for $1000 fines for anybody blasting 150 db's of Tupac down the street but taking it out on the rest of the enthusiasts that are not harrassing anybody is where Im having the problem.

and why would anyone want all of that in your car MacLeod? JUST for competition shows?

I've never met anyone in my life with that kind of interest and that kind of gear in their car that DOESN'T play it loud in public. Too loud. I'm sure there are people out there- you might be one of them, but I've never heard one. Obviously the lawmakers have never heard one and most importantly the civilians who complained and got this law rolling in motion have never heard one.

Majority rules, right MacLeod? After all that's why Washington is in the state it's in.

"It's almost idiotic for us to take somebody's car for something like that," Alderman Stephen Conway said.

Almost?? While I don't like the Boom Car thing, I have also seen things get out of hand with the cops. San Diego for instance will not let you drink at the beach because of a few Gang Bangers **** it up. So some people make boom cars and screw it up for the rest of us? TOTAL B.S. (In my humble opinion)

my adcom amp doesn't play bass at the volume of a jetliner MacLeod. And even if it could, I still wouldn't do it. It's about better quality, not more noise. It's about respect for others around you.

It's absolutely someones business what i have in my H/T rig if i'm bothering other people around me from a noise perspective and I refuse to decrease the volume. Even if it breaks ordinace.

It's absolutely my business regarding someone else's car stereo when they're pumping bass into my walls/ MY private property at 2am in the morning. If a kid threw eggs at your house from the street, would you do nothing? Sure bass doesn't cause physical complications like egging someone's house, but it's a breach of your privacy bubble that you're entitled to under the 4th Amendment.

Your right i've never heard people who have those stereos in their cars and don't blast it thru my neighborhood. I hear the ones that do. That's MY whole point.

and that's all i'm going to say. I'm hopelessly outnumbered here, being this is an audio forum. But the world doesn't revolve around an audio forum guys. Flame on if you want, i've made my peace. :)

i have nearly 2kW of power on tap in my trunk, and guess what? no one ever knows it until i tell them! if i have the windows down, i'll turn it up a little, but when i'm in a residential area or a parking lot or an intersection, i turn it back down - easy!

this law is saying that it's not okay for me to have volume above an ant's **** inside my car, regardless of whether or not someone else can hear it...

and that's ignoring the audio businesses in the area; like the guy the article quoted, you can't possibly run an audio store without selling 1kW+ amps... this guy, and who knows how many like him (plus his employees, who are often younger guys, who really need the cash), will get screwed over?

Same principle as the gun laws. Nobody is enforcing the existing gun laws so we just need to outlaw ALL guns.

Nobody is enforcing the existing noise ordinances so we just need to outlaw ALL car audio gear.

Husbands continue to beat their wives so we just need to outlaw husbands.

People continue to speed so we should outlaw driving.

drive down to st. louis and sell them out of the back of my truck at 10 bucks a pop more than i pay for them. basically donating them. but making enough money to pay for my gas and some good south western food.

then... offer free install seminars and such.

then... watch "the man" try to stop my evil minions of doom.

Or go get about 100 SPL cars and just drive around just on the outside of the city limits of St Louis for hours at a time.

Like Walmart does. They tried to stop a WalMart from being built in Chicago so Walmart went ONE block beyond the city limits and built it there! Kinda their way of saying "angry-smiley-048.gif"

hey guys! this bill is NOT YET LAW! the mayor still has to sign it... here is a link to a place where you can write a letter to the mayor... i have, and i suggest you do the same...

i mentioned how, mere hours after this bill passed the house of aldermen, outrage exploded across car audio forums on the net... i wrote about how not everyone that buys car audio, myself included, wants to impress everyone within four blocks, and how my purchases of car audio equipment are for my own personal enjoyment... i urged him to consider the businesses in the area that would suffer if he passed this bill, and ended with a comment to the effect of 'you will be hated by all reasonable people if you do this', only couched in more polite words...

IF you write, please try and keep it professional and clean, it won't help the cause to swear and rant...
