Damn shame. It is people like this, that make me, as a "black" person feel ashamed.

Don't be. There are scumbags of every race in our country. I have to think, no matter what race, living in a depressed area such as this, the same thing would have happened. These pieces of shite doing this looting (TV's, electronics, liquor, jewelry..non essentials) are definetaly a minority among the people living there. And I would like to shoot everyone of the ****!

After the water clears, I'm just wondering how many bodies they are going to find that died from means other than drowning. New Orleans has one of the highest murder per capita rates in the US.

You know, I've seen one picture so far of people taking a beverage and that's the drunk on the top of the page with a bucket of Heniekins.

How is the situation with the thug jackasses with the TVs in this world we know nothing about so different than the world of the people supposedly starving to death and fighting to get food and water? I'm missing it here man. The people who need food and water are the people in the Super Dome and the folks still strandad in their homes or God knows where else. Anyplace that has a store has some sort of police presence. There's no neeed for looting anything.

Someone alluded to the media skewing the news to show everything but the people strugling to survive. There's been TONS of heartwretching stories of people strugling to survive and the heart warming stories of those getting the help they need. As much as I hate the mainstream media for it's political leanings (totally different subject) they're doing a damn good job at showing all the disgusting aspects of this disaster. All the amatuer photography, etc., and I've yet to see the photo of the peoples with the carts full of food, or God forbid only a handful to get by and leaving some for others.

No, I've seen bicycles, power tools, footballs, DVD players, TVs, Irons, Vaccum cleaners, etc. Haven't yet seen the canned goods.

Lets not turn this into something it isn't and make excuses for these effing LOSERS. Nobody is going to shoot dead someone trying to get food to survive, but if you're desperate to survive aren't you going to be pleading with the authorities who are armed to help get you to someplace more safe?

Who shot the National Guardsman in the Helicopter? Someone trying to get their mits on a tasty bag of Cheetos?

Anyone who really wants to get the hell out of there is going to do it. The ones who can't get out aren't running around in the street looting Wal-Marts...

    Bingo!

If I lived in the city and had a kid that was wheelchair bound, I would pick him up and swim/carry him on my shoulders through miles of stinking water to get away from the situation.

If after 24 hours of walking and wading, I got no where, then I would think about stealing some water (assuming I had no mean for a legitimate purchase)

I have thought that too. If I were one of those people in the superdome, I am pretty sure I would just start walking North.

What bothers me the most is the pure stupidity. These people aren't thinking or adapting beyond their usual thinking. Ask them "what if there were no cops?" and they'd say "I'd steal some shoes and a big **** TV". A smart person with the same lack of morals would get:
    1)bottled water
    2)Backpack
    3)Crowbar
    4)bicycle

Pop open ATM's until you've got a nice big downpayment on a house and start heading north.

The morals of stealing food and water right now are a little vague, but if you're gonna abandon all pretense of doing the right thing, at least be smart about it.

Well sure, you can always find someone doing something wrong. From the above posted pictures I really don't see anything that isn't reasonable given the circumstances.

As for the beer guy, seems reasonable. Might as well make the best out of the situation... I mean, take a guess at what this guy probably feels he has to live for right now.

Someone mentioned all the blacks in the pictures. It is the circumstances causing the actions, not the people. I'm sure there are just as many other races caught up in the same situations, at least whatever is proportional to the area.

That was me, and I said it because all I see in the looting photos is black people. Even on the news, the people in the looting footage are black as well. It just makes me sad to see the people of N.O. acting in this manner, black or white. It is the mentality of some people to get "free" **** whenever it is possible, no matter what the situation. To me, it is just a shame for any race to act in such a ridiculous manner, and they should be punished after things get back to normal. I'm not referring to those that were hungry, just the buttholes that were looting for material reasons.

Okay, the people stealing the football and Nikes and unneccessary items, yes, thats bad and wrong.

But, I could see myself, being in their shoes, stealing food and items needed to you know, survive. I'm not down their myself, so I could be wrong, but do they even have the option of buying something at the store? Aren't all the stores pretty much out of commission? I'm sure there is another way, but at least food and maybe clothing I could understand.

AGREE. All you have to do is put yourself, your wife, and your children into that scenario---YOU WOULD LOOT food and clothing. I would, in a hot damn second. These people are starving and dying of thirst....

With that said, looters of non-essentials should be shot.

Knowing that many of the looters are now raping, shooting, killing also - how close would you recommend getting to the said looter to determine if he\she is an upright, honest, contribute to society sort of theif or just a normal one?

Either turn it over to the theives and get back to rescuing people (hoping you dont get shot in the process) or take a true zero tolerance level and kill all who are caught stealing.

The more time you spend dealing with people taking what is not theirs, the less people you have to help find those who are truely in need.
