I had a buddy who had diverticulitis. Very painful according to him, though I know he had a serious case. Hopefully yours isn’t too serious nor too painful.

I just recently had a case of colitis myself and wouldn't wish it upon anybody. It sucks that bad. I got up one morning, went to the bathroom, washed up too come out for my morning brew. I was between the hallway and dining room where Janey was sitting and told her, I wasn't feeling so hot. I then collapsed on the floor with severe pain in my gut.

After awhile, I was finally able to get up and went straight to bed. Janey wanted to call an ambulance, but I declined. I went to the ER a couple days later and after a CT scan of my belly, the diagnosis was colitis. The ER doc wanted to keep me at least for overnight stay, but I declined. Sent me home with a couple of scrips for antibiotics with instructions to come back if I wasn't feeling better in a couple days.

Three days later, I was back in the ER and had gotten very dehydrated and still in a lot of pain. They were dosing me with morphine and dilaudid which did little for the pain I was in. Anyway, they did anther CT scan and took some more blood. Doc told me I was actually getting better and my body just needed time to catch up. I went home and continued to take the antibiotics they prescribed and tried to keep myself hydrated. It's tough trying to eat or drink anything when you have this fellas and I'm sure John would agree.

About a week later, I was finally feeling better, but had to take it slow for a few more days eating light and drinking lots of water. I seriously have not felt so bad in my life. Finally, my primary care doctor wants to be sure nothing else is going on, so I have to go in for a colonoscopy in 3 weeks. I loathe the prep for these things and the Gastroenterologist wants to be thorough by checking the upper too. Talk about being probed! Not looking forward to this, but quess I gotta do what I gotta do.

But John, I hope you're feeling better bro and you and your family are enjoying your vacation. I know what you went thru and it's not fun. Take care!

Sad thing is I am a sucker for milk chocolate with any kind of nut added to it, especially hazelnut and macadamia. Nuts are a huge trigger for another bout of this, along with sesame seeds.

West Hollywood nuts are not a workable substitute…

John, I can't understand why nut flavors would do any harm. Even peanut butter should be fine (not chunky). It's eating them whole or in pieces that triggers it because the small pieces get stuck in the pockets.

At least that is what was explained to me. Eating real fiber and not just some fiber supplement or pill, along with plenty of water is your friend.

I am usually faithful to the fiber but I can only take drinking so much water.
