It's very soft and will compress easily.
Those factory gaskets in all likelihood were the same or very close in thickness.

Armacell will compress to the same thickness as the original gaskets.

Ima gonna add to your long list.

The end caps are attached with threaded studs. The nuts tend to loosen over time, which will result in an air leak. So, be sure to check if they are loose. I recommend adding a lock washer to prevent the nuts from ever loosening again.

Above is F1’s tip from earlier.
When I got to the second speaker’s passive removal I was removing the nuts holding the bottom end cap. 3 out of the 4 nuts were actually hand tight. Removed these 3 without putting a wrench on them.
Lock washers now on all end caps.

Was able to order that Armacell @ our local Ace Hardware store. We’re not large enough to have a Lowe’s or Home Depot.

The Armacell looks to be quite a bit thicker than the gaskets on my drivers.
The ones on mine are paper thin.

    Question…
Does the thickness of the material matter?

The end result should be paper thin like the original gaskets.

Just got a call from ace that my Armacell’s in.

Got my last MW driver area & passive sealed this morning.
Just have the sound deadening left for the back of the passive left.
BH5 for the MW then back together and done with the mechanical mods.

Gonna enjoy some tunes for a few days with my new sealed cabinets…… 😬

My NOS Made In Mexico MW6500 gaskets were less than half the thickness of Armacell.

    Hey p_a...

I was just over on your thread again trying to attach the video of the dampening of my passive. It's not letting me attach the video my wife helped me with. Getting a message of "File format is not allowed."
I'm on a mac computer and must be doing something wrong. It'll let me attach photos taken from her iPad but not videos from the same iPad.
    Hmmmm...

Yes I have decided on the approach to update the crossovers.
I'm going with the tried & true approach others have already done, on this site, in regards to the SDA SRS'... Sonicaps & Mills.

F1 linked a really nice thread on the sound of different capacitors. Someone else had been kind enough to share their findings. Was a really good read.
I was asking whether to go with Clarity Caps, Sonicaps or another brand. As others have found, on this site, caps do have different sound characteristics.
What I concluded was that I would have loved to have gone with higher quality "higher priced" caps but I just don't have deep enough pockets to go there.

Sure would like to figure out how to change the file format, of these videos, to whichever is needed for this site.
    I'll keep trying....

I think the Ballistic Hollow Point was a noticeably lower thunk frequency, especially noticeable when you struck on the hole ID edge in the back plate of frame.

That's what I was hearing too.
    Here it's on the MW.
The Ballistic is noticeably thicker. Not sure what that means but, I do like the looks of it...

I think you have found a better material than Dynamat Xtreme. The Ballistic is 2.2mm = 0.087 in and is 0.72 lb/sq. ft. Dynamat Xtreme is 1.7 mm = 0.067 in and is 0.45 lb/sq. ft.

So 29% thicker but 60% heavier.

Apparently Ballistic Hollow Point is their slightly less expensive version and is 2.0 mm thick.

    https://images.carid.com/ballistic-sound/info/pdf/2018-install-bay-catalog.pdf

Noico is 2mm = 0.79" and weighs 0.7 lb/sq. ft. so probably comparable to the Ballistic Hollow Point stuff.

    Interesting.

I was trying to search around and couldn't find any direct comparisons between the two.
Wanted to make sure I wasn't making a mistake for the ease of buying at our local car audio shop.

I don't think I should hear any difference...
Only wrapped two MW's and the Passive in the right speaker with the hollow point.

Couldn't imagine trying to work with the ballistic.
There was a definite level up of difficulty working with the hollow point.
A little harder to roll flat because of the added thickness. Around the edges, on the curves, doesn't lay as flat as the Dynamat. Definitely took more pressure with the roller.

    Does look stealthy though B)

You know George there's all different manufactures out there, not all of us used Dynamat extreme. I actually used a product called Second Skin. It too is thicker than Dynamat extreme. When My Dynamat wedge pack showed up it was old and no longer tacky. It was dried out and cracking. After the seller asked me to use a heatgun to "rejuvenate" the butyl I asked for a refund because it didn't work. I went to a local mobile audio store and he showed me the second skin. His price was way too expensive per sheet. I searched found a seller and bought a box. (I still have 6-8 sheets) The aluminum and butyl is thicker but that also made it more difficult to work with, edges sharp as a knife as well.

Got the original glue off the passive last night.
Gonna try the Armacell install tonight.

Is it an easy install, just go after it?
Any tips on trimming? Trim first then install or trim after it's on?

I did find the Dynamat much easier to install on passive. Trimmed after installed.
Probably the reason I ran out of it...

I forgot about that stuff. I think you or somebody else mentioned it previously and I didn't bookmark it.

Looks like the 80mil/2.0mm stuff (you linked the 1 mm) weighs 0.7 lb/sq. ft. which makes it spec out the same as Noico and Ballistic

Edit - Apparently I did bookmark it but did forget it lol

    https://www.secondskinaudio.com/sound-deadening/damplifier-pro

    https://cdn11.bigcommerce.com/s-5vspyxz90j/content/pdf/damplifier-pro-technical-data.pdf

Interestingly, if you avg. out the 8 temp. modal loss factor data points for each, the Second Skin only averages 10% better BUT if you avg. the 3 for 10, 20, and 30deg C they are basically the same. So Dynamat Xtreme somehow punches higher than it's weight class lol. Or they are cheating the data...

I've done a few speakers messed with a ton of Polk speakers, NONE had gaskets glued on. I suspect you are dealing with someone else had glued on the gasket.
