Where's your install pics? Got to build another 1-piece X-over plate to match tweeters and the red anodized is popular.

Let me see what I have, if not I will take some new pics, I have the 1.2's pulled from the system at the moment.
I personally think the red looks the best, I have tried other colors, and they just looked horrible on a speaker, red or black is where it's at IMO..

If anyone wants a set in solid bronze, chime in so I can price a group-buy on these. I can start them around 1st Oct.

I would be interested in 2 for my SDA 2b (RD0198) if it's not too much trouble. If available for a forum newb, that is.

I'm curious as to the cost for 6 myself. Probably double the cost of aluminium.

An all-bronze edition of CRS+ or 2B's with the bronze Polk insignias would be show-stoppers.

I may have been here for longer than I'm letting on. Full 'DIY, Mods & Tweaks' suite is soon to be in progress. Still in the planning phase currently.

    Which mod would that be?

Currently my list is as follows: (copied directly from my notes)
    Re-seal cabinets
    Glue driver magnets
    Dynamat baskets
    Hurricane nuts
    Replace gaskets
    Black hole 5
    Outriggers
    Crossover
    TL Mod
    Polyswitch Jump
    SDA Circuit Inductor
    Replace tweeter
    Internal wiring
    Binding posts
    Interconnect cable/socket

What a vanilla welcome, dumped your post right off the bat... SMH.

You're in good hands here, looking forward to your build. If there is not an inner brace to the bottom PR cabinet area, I'd put that on the list too. No amount of BH-5/No-Rez will fix the immediate reflections of the basket frames. I believe this is why some folks say the 2B's are "shouty". Here's the solution....

Having owned 2B's for 36 years I can tell you they are not shouty. However, the SL2000 is nasty. The RD0194 or RD0198 will fix that issue. Therefore, no need to ruin the mid-drivers by adding foam inside the basket.

I guess some folks process distortion as colorful midrange. It's interesting, I also found that the last set of my 5 Jr's were a little "shouty" until I added the frame foam. The 194's are blah unless you install metal plates.

Well, thankfully, I was just able to add an additional modification to my list. Purchased a pair of @xschop's alloy tweeter bezels. I now have what will be a piece of SDA modders history. There are a few that I'm sad to have missed out on like Larry's Rings and Gimpod PCBs.

I also have two very long threads to read about potential additional modifications. @Gardenstater's PR basket foam and @xschop's MW phase-plugs. I'm a tad cautious of both.

In terms of the PR foam, I'm a tad cautious of over-dampening. I'll be performing the near entire forum approved mod suite to my 2b's all at once. But those two may need to come later. Unless the thread xschop linked can change my mind. Hopefully I can have everything done by the end of this Winter.
  • @drop1 No PR foam, just Dynamat-like material on the outside of the baskets.

Remind me, what model are the stereo and dimensional drivers in your model?

That's what I'm leaning toward. I don't know if I want to stray too far from the SDA Handbook/Polk engineer approved modifications quite yet. These will be my primary (and likely only) modified SDAs. I do have a tad experience with Vintage Polks already however. My entry into vintage Polk was via a pair of 1982 Monitor 4a's (SL1500 peerless tweeter; MW6500 driver) that I found at a thrift store for $13. Now fully modified.

My 2b's have MW6503 (Stereo) and MW 6511 (dimensional) drivers.

    SL1500 Peerless is a non sequitur :)

Define "fully modified" :) I agree with doing the standard mods first and always. Those 4As would be a perfect test bed for uber mods.*

*One person did Armacell inside the frame on those and reported great results. Their name escapes me at the moment. <<@JayMX page 6 of my thread

On second look, yes, I am incorrect about this. It's one of those early Danish peerless tweeters. I guess they don't have a model naming sequence.

I knew I'd be in trouble here. It was too late to edit once I realized. Ok, they're only partially modified. Sonicap caps, Vishay mills resistor, replaced internal wiring, jb weld on the driver magents, dynamat on the driver basket. Might throw a little BH5 in there if I have any spare. I.e. they're 'modified'. I'm not sure I want fully modified. I like the 4a as a 4a.

    Look like this one?

No. Here's a pic of it. Don't mind the dust. This picture was taken right after I recovered them from the GoodWill store. No compaints here. Probably my best thrift store find. And I've had a few good ones in my limited experience.

When I made the post I was referencing what I saw listed on the PolkSDA(dot)com page

And based on another search, It looks like there is no visual distinction between the USA made peerless tweeter and the Danish made peerless tweeter. Going off the serial # (starts with 5514), mine is actually a USA made peerless tweeter. I'm wrong again... The speaker itself is dated July 1982 per the crossover.

I absolutely love these little speakers. They sound fantastic in the small nook of my basement that I use as a home gym.

He doesn't mind I'm sure. If I found those in a Goodwill, especially for that price, I'd pounce on them! Worthy of more mods for sure, as much as you want to do.

I don't think we really know how to tell if a Peerless KO10DT is made in USA or Denmark. Maybe if the magnet screws are metric vs. SAE, but don't know for sure. Having a "Made In USA" is another way. I've seen 7514s with Made In USA on them by the way.

    Mod or die. B)

I'd say do the full-monty on the 4a's, step-by-step and judge for yourself.
A must for those 4A's would be the masking tape mod on those dusty domes.
