Power conditioners are like cats, they are fun to play with at other people's houses, just not mine!

I would not be concerned with numbers around 50. Close enough. But if I read correctly you said you were getting numbers around 470 directly from the Dectet at times. That would have to make me wonder.......

Just for fun can you try plugging in your power conditioners to the noisy computer strip? If these conditioners do anything the number coming from the power out should be well under 1000.

I don't have the meter anymore to try this.
^^^^^^^^Now that's a pretty big difference between those 2 units. Were they getting power from the same outlet for the comparison?

No, they were each on their own 20a line.

I would challenge any further meter testers to describe the difference in what they are hearing as it relates to the measurement discrepancies. What’s it doing to the sound?

^^^^^ When I swapped my 120 legs (one is very noisy at 6-800+ vs. 100 on the quieter one) there was a noticeable lowering of the noise floor. In my case I've found it's most noticeable through the phono circuit. Hands down the best upgrade I did this year was moving my 3 dedicated lines to the quiet leg. The improvement in the sound after the quieter circuits is the reason I caved in after many years to pony up the cash necessary for a good quality balanced pc, a furutech flux 50 and a shunyata power cord. Up until that point I had no idea how important clean power is or the difference it can make in bringing the rig to the next level. And all this all started with the simple to use alpha line meter thinking everything was fine and then I started measuring.

If your dreadnought is enclosed in a metal box you should not get any RFI interference or stray magnetic fields outside the container. The box will act like a Faraday cage.

Still an interesting experiment to run........

The box would have to be grounded (at RF ground potential, if memory serves)... wouldn't it?

Not 100% sure but I don't think so. When the magnetic field hits the metal box it should generate a small electrical charge in one area. But since the whole box is conducting, the charge would just get canceled out. I am sure this is a gross oversimplification and there is a better technical explanation but with Faraday cages electrical signals should not get inside or outside of the box. The charge should stay on the conductive surrounding skin. They make bags you can place your cell phone or EZpass that stops them from receiving RFI signals. AFAIK they don't have to be grounded.

But still definitely test this when you get the meter. First see if your line noise goes up when you play your stereo. We hear about all kinds of electronics polluting our AC power......Wouldn't it be ironic if one of your components did it too! Then unplug the interconnect. Whatever happens it will be interesting.

^^^^^^My meter says there's no increase in line noise here when I turn my rig on. But my balanced pc may have something to do with that. I hadn't thought of disconnecting my dreadnaught but I'm sure it's not adding any emi. Getting very low readings of 12-20 from my pc leads me to believe there isn't anything in the chain polluting the power.

So this is interesting. Super clean power upstairs in the spare room. Nothing running except the rig and ceiling light.
    mtt27loau17o.png
Now checking the Shunyata Hydra 8, with the rig still running. No change. Interesting for sure.
    fikyigus0a4u.png
Can't clean already clean power? Interesting. As mentioned previously, EMI, although a biggie, is not the only factor when it come to power conditioning.

It would certainly be interesting to bring the Hydra8 down into the office, and swap it out with the WW Spaceport.

So today I checked the upstairs again, but this time I powered off the Shunyata and unplugged it from the wall. Then plugged it back it, and powered it up. Measured the EMI before and after. Pretty much the same readings, before and after, but this time down to about 11-12. Interesting.

So while I'm pondering why I'm not seeing any difference in readings, this little guy is off to @monepolk either later today or tomorrow!

While researching other audio stuff, I came across this comment

“ Clearly the power supply on the NAS makes a difference ; also the NAS tends to pollute power all around the house, so it's nice to have a power filter ; and SSD is better than HDD ; and different routers, different ethernet cables yield different results ; a specialist I visited recently swears that attenuators on ethernet cables make a huge difference.”

Good insights Glenn. Probably a good idea to keep all computer equipment away from the same line as the audio.

So far my highest reading was 245 @ 116V in one outlet the day I got it. But this morning the same outlet was 20 @ 120V. Most are 18 to 20 @ 116-120V.
