@stangman67 what tires do you have coming in for the new bike?

Kinda shocked they would put a 35mm tire on a 17mm internal rim...

My rims are 19mm internal and still think it’s too narrow for my 32mm tires sometimes.

Panaracer gravelking SK 35’s. I don’t have any qualms about the rim width. They are a designed cyclocross Wheelset. I’m sure I will upgrade them at some point anyways, almost always one of the first upgrades I do

Finally stopped over researching and just pulled the trigger on some I9 Enduro 305 Hydra wheels.

Can’t wait to get them in!

This will be my first wheelset that’s punching well above stock wheels. Can’t wait to have the now nearly instantaneous engagement of the new Hydra hub!

Very nice wheels. I just wish you could have chosen the amount of spokes

I think the Trail 270 gives you spoke count options. Not as wide of a rim as the 305’s and drops a bit of weight.

The 305’s are designed as a wheel that can pretty much handle it all while still being fairly light weight. If they dropped the spoke count it would only shave a few grams and probably lose a fair bit of strength.

The carbon 305’s also give you spoke count options, but carbon rims naturally need fewer spokes than aluminum. Honestly, them using 32 spokes on the carbon 305’s is probably overkill and can lead to a tough but VERY harsh ride. A lot of manufacturers opt for 28 spokes for carbon. Good blend of strength and forgiveness.

For the tire sizes I like to ride and my lack of finess, I went for the more heavy duty aluminum option!

For sure, I just really like the look of less spokes.

I ended up selling the felt f40x cross bike after riding it a few times. Just didn’t do it for me for an around town/commuter bike. I really entered the market looking for a bike I could get to work easily without worrying about punctures and also something equally home riding to the local brewery in normal clothes and shoes. The cross bike really didn’t do the either all that well. So I ended up with something much more modest and much more fun IMO.

Introduce the Raleigh Redux 2 “urban assault bike”. More or less a modern simple rigid mountain bike. 1x9 Shimano Alivio drivetrain and WTB 650b x 47 road specific tires. I put on a Brooks C17 saddle and some new grips and voila

I'm contemplating turning my Air 9 RDO into something similar.

Get some fast rolling, "skinny" XC race tires on it and just kick around town on it.

I might go full "Frankenbike" and throw drop bars on it...

There is something entertaining about seeing a bike with drop bars and a suspension fork.

I like that idea! A lot of cyclocross bikes use that setup, IIRC. For me, I wound up putting little bar ends on my flat bars to get some more hand position options. Helps a lot over the long haul.

Stock pic, but I chose a set of Crank Brothers wheels over the i9's (most likely cause I got a deal on em) on my Voodoo Canzo MTB. Easy to go tubeless, as there are no spoke holes in the rim.

Just finished the front fork overhaul. DebonAir Air spring upgrade, new seals and oil. Dropped the front from 140mm travel to 130mm thanks to the new I9’s. More balanced feeling from end and BB height with the reduced travel and the 29ers.

I’ll keep the 140mm Solo Air just incase I spend a lot of time on the 27.5+ tires.

I’ve done 60 miles of commuting on the new Raleigh this week. Only driven my truck once for a larger grocery haul.

Love the bike, super simple and comfortable. I love that I can ride it wearing whatever, the Brooks saddle is so comfortable that I do not need a chamois of any kind.

Spent a few hours riding the Elm Ridge trails near Windham this morning.

    What. A. Blast!

Easily the best trails that I’ve found in my area so far.

The new I9 Enduro 305’s are awesome. Amazing engagement and excellent in the turns. Point and shoot kind of wheel. I’ve got a Maxxis Minion DHF 2.5 up front and Rekon 2.4 in the back. Great combination!

Glad you’re liking the new setups.

I did a 26 mile ride on my felt road bike yesterday. Did a 200 watt average for an hour and a half. Definitely getting stronger. Not scaring those tour guys yet but getting there :p
