Meh. I prefer my DACs to have at least 16 tubes. Minimum.

Found a Holman preamp at a local pawn shop today. They aren't much for looks, but from what I understand, the value is in the circuit design. I'm looking forward to comparing it to the Threshold SL-10.

Got into some minutia leveling and double-checking all the geometry on the new turntable with some 3/4" ball bearings and a Hudson Hi-Fi kit I got today. I had re-aligned the cartridge a couple days ago because I didn't like how far forward in the head shell it was from the dealer (pics for comparison on the prior page). Evidently, he performed a Baerwald alignment with much more overhang than the 52mm specified by Technics. Not necessarily wrong, just different. After using the supplied Technics overhang gauge, accuracy was verified with a Technics-spec protractor I printed off and both null points were perfect.

With the Hudson Hi-Fi kit, I checked azimuth, which was spot-on, vertical tracking angle and vertical tracking force, which was also spot-on the 1.6 grams specified by Ortofon. On the vertical tracking angle, it is a bit tough to get just the right view of the gauge with the s-shaped tonearm, but I ended up backing it off to below "0" (negative) on the adjustment ring to level it out despite the Technics manual calling for a setting of "1" for the cartridge height of the 2M Black LVB 250. This was basically the only thing I found "off" with the original setup. I may raise it back up and do some more critical listening at some point to see if I notice any differences.

Does it sound better now? There may have been a slightly less harsh and bright sound after changing the cartridge alignment and overhang from how it was given to me. Other than that, no, it still sounds amazing! Of course, it is all still burning-in, so that could have something to do with any perceived changes, too. But, at least my OCD feels better knowing everything is dialed in the way I want it! At least until I purchase a test record! 🙄😝

    Turntables are cool!

I love the attention to detail in this turntable setup. Is it justified? You only know when you know.

    High marks, nice work!

You haven't arrived at the peak of TT OCD until you have the best VTA settings listed on your albums like Joe (hearingimpared, RIP) did. :D

I certainly admire that level of commitment, even if I don’t aspire to it! 😝

I did find notes on some of my LP sleeves showing what EQ adjustments I prescribed for that particular album back in the day. That was when I had an EQ and much lower standard equipment. Now, the only tone controls I have beside the VTA wheel on the turntable are a few 12au7 tubes for my amp, yet everything sounds better than ever!

The 8m length will go from router to switch, and the 0.5m from switch to ENO filter.

I have not compared LEEDH to a passive preamp attenuator but will have the opportunity in a few weeks when my stepped attenuator comes from Khozmo.
