Polk is losing it's "Harley Davidson" like club feel---for sure. It's something that struck me as very unique the first time I came here. It seemed like the company was much more plugged in to the Polk club forum back then. I had been to dozens of hi-fi forums, but this place was unique.

Do you own any Polk speakers? Your comments above and earlier in this thread sure seem to say you dislike both Polk Audio the company and its products. I love my Polk Audio RTI A5 speakers and they certainly are not "low-fi." Polk's market is not "low-fi." Instead, they offer great sounding speakers at "good, better, best" levels and beyond with the LSiM speakers.
I didn't interpret Tony's comments to mean that. I think what he was just replying to an earlier statement. The second paragraph is focused more on the point he was making. He's a fan of Polk but thinks they could do a better job marketing and re-establishing their reputation as a quality speaker manufacturer rather that getting too off track with other products.
At least that's how I took it. -

Point taken Phil, but if one was to read between the lines of that statement, it means Polk has subscribed to the low-fi customer base of which we usually encourage a move up from....like you said. To me anyway, subscribing to the low-fi segments of audio enters yourself into a very crowded field of which many compete with the cheapest Chinese imports. Plus, if low-fi is going to be your market target, what does that do for the reputation of your speakers ?
Funny thing is, Polk has move up speaker lines, which we also promote. After all, they are a speaker maker, not a gear manufacturer. They don't sell receivers, pre amps, dacs, cables, music streamers, they sell speakers and some portable devices/gaming stuff. Their bread and butter has always been speakers, and maybe they want the brand to be noticed for more than that. If so, imho....they aren't setting the world on fire in that regard.
Remember, at some point back in the dim mists of time, Polk Audio's tagline was The Speaker Specialists?

One of the few things recently I agree with you on.
DonnerUndBlitzen you are twisting words tread carefully. Polk has strayed from many of the good they had in the past that built their brand. Tony has owned some of the best of the best Polk has offered. -
DonnerUndBlitzen wrote: »If I drew the wrong conclusion from what Tonyb wrote, that is not my fault. He should set the record straight.
This is a logical fallacy. Especially if you are being deliberately obtuse just to stir the pot.
You could have just asked tonyb to clarify his position instead of building a straw man argument to paint him in a false light and try to force him to defend a position he doesn't hold.
It's not only a straw man but it's an ad hominem attack as well since you're trying to make it seem like tonyb is a curmudgeonly old coot that is detached from reality in an effort to cast doubt on his character as a method to discredit his argument.
Why don't you try actually challenging the point with something worth while instead of throwing barbs poorly disguised as "intelligence"?Expert Moron Extraordinaire

One thing I always wondered was if Polk speakers were ever used as OEM equipment for new cars, and if not why? You see Bose speakers heavily-advertised in GM cars and a few others but I've never seen Polks as original equipment. Just aftermarket.
Has Polk ever been used by any of the automakers? -

Polk Audio has never been an OEM manufacturer/supplier for the automotive markets.
They have been optional equipment from a few boat manufacturers. Not necessarily as an OEM supplier, though.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

People eat reindeer.
They do indeed. I used to be in Sweden fairly often due to a joint venture my company had with a Swedish biotech company (that kind of narrows it down a bit!). I was told that the Swedish government controls the reindeer herds and thus "owns" the reindeer & their -- products (meat, pelts). Consequently, reindeer was almost always on the menu at the company cafeteria in Stockholm!
Reindeer pelts, at very attractive prices, are (or, at least, were) readily available for purchase at duty-free shops at Arlanda. Everyone should have one -- but that's another story for another time.

Dam your gawds, John Megadeth !!
I don't know if you're aware of the Swedish laws concerning captive animals, Dr. Hardy, but reindeer and elephants must be kept in separate areas and are never allowed to co-mingle.
It seems that elephants have a bad habit of this:

Good afternoon Forum Members, sorry it took so long to reach back out to you. My name is Ken and I work in Customer Service at Polk Audio. I would like to reach out and be an olive branch between the Forum and the employees here at Sound United. We do appreciate and thank you for your continued support of Polk Audio in all our endeavors.
The head of Marketing is still well aware of the forum and the daily discussions here. We spoke and there was no purposeful slight to the forum, however, the goal of this particular email was to inform the novice of how to set up speakers.
As for the suggested sites for consumers to reference, we wanted to offer up a mix of credible third party resources. While the forum is credible, it is (like the Polkies that inhabit it) fairly advanced in product knowledge and enthusiasm. For someone that might be entering the brand for the first time or updating from a sound bar to component speakers, it could be a very intimidating experience. With that being said, we love the enthusiasm for the brand on the forum and would like to harness this in a positive way. And would like to prepare future email tips from the actual forum to get general customers excited about engaging in it.
Please send suggestions or the tips you’d like to suggest, both general and Polk related and we’ll feature you (screen name) in the email. We’re all enthusiasts about the Polk brand and the speakers we make, our collective goal is to grow our fans and most importantly audio enthusiasts!
You can send the suggestions to myself at ken.carter@soundunited.com. If anyone has questions feel free to send them my way too.
We are looking forward to the feedback and response's from everyone.
Thank you!
-Ken
