The first CD I ever owned, a gift from my brother for Christmas in 1992, it remains one of my favorites.

Face, I was listening to David Grohl [guy on the left] way back in high school. I was running the sound board for the talent show in [if memory serves] '85. Damn Fire Marshall motioned for me to kill the sound, stopped the show mid run, walked down the isle and proceeded to tell everyone that they must sit down or the show was to be canceled. "Safety regulations". Only time in my life I was mad at a fireman. The student body instantly BOOOO'd him until he sat back down, but the show went on.

They were playing "wipe out" and all the students got out of the seats and started air surfing. Yeah, he was wearing the girl outfits back then. White bra and a black skirt for that concert, complete with makeup. That wasn't a marketing thing, just David.

Back to the subject.....listening to Taco, Puttin' on the Ritz.

I will be listening to Van Halen live tonight around 9:00. I have been real skeptical since they announced their reunion and have even made fun of them because of all the antics over the years. But now that the concert is less than 24 hours away I"m actually pretty psyched.

So far they have been getting pretty good reviews and I don't expect them to be like they were in the 80's, but if they can come close I'll be happy. I really didn't think it would last this long.

There's a few songs that I can listen to over and over, and there's a few I can't even make it through once. If you're a big fan of them, you need to give it a try.

Picked up a halfway decent copy of the 1812 Overture on Friday. Living Stereo LSC 2345 with Bolero on the flip side, cleaned it up and threw it on the table on Saturday. I think this is the first time I've heard the entire 1812 Overture, obviously heard the cannon parts a bunch during fireworks, etc. Very impressed with the soundstage, I'd say it's definitely the widest I've heard in my system, the height is there as well. I can also place the instruments very well within the soundstage. Not very impressive was the cannon shots, sounded like they played them through a tape deck into the concert hall.

    Dave Mason - Certified Live
    1976, CBS PG 34174, 2-LP

Recorded at the Universal Ampitheater, this double album live set is Mason at the absolute top of his game vocally and instrumentally. The opening cut, an **** bumping funked-up arrangement of "Feelin' Alright", sets a standard that is never compromised as Dave works through several Traffic covers, an Eagles standard, a Dylan/Hendrix anthem, slow blues, and several of his signature hits.

A "must have" for Mason fans or exactly where to start for someone looking for a solid introduction.

I was there for the concert and a terrfic one it was! Thanks for helping me relive a great memory! :D

    Carrying on with:

Daryl Hall and John Oates - Voices
    1980, RCA AQL1-3646, LP

Side B is dy-no-mite! Most excellent cover of "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" (I still can't believe that whack job Phil Spector had a hand in that tune), "You Make My Dreams Come True", and the pre-Paul Carrack cover rendition of "Everytime You Go Away" (penned by Daryl.)

Diskreetse Mango Trio........this band is so odd I can't stop listening. And despite having "trio" in their name, there are like 50 people in this band.

Still, its a weird/interesting change of pace....
