Pete Haycock - Guitar and Son
1988, IRS/No Speak 42100, LP
The brilliant lead guitarist for one of my favorites, The Climax Blues Band, goes solo with a largely instrumental offering of predominantly original titles. Good stuff! -
John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton - The "Beano" Album
1966, London PS 492, LP
Dead mint copy, thanks to Brother Dave! -
A Toolbox Christmas, Woody Phillips, Gourd Music 1996
"Your favorite carols performed on your favorite hand and power tools...from the workshop of Woody Phillips, glorious holiday sounds ascend from the sawdust to the heavens..."
Actually, he does use a few proper instruments as well. A truly festive piece!
Cheers, JimA day without music is like a day without food. -
Sinatra at the Sands.
Frank is THE man.
BDTI plan for the future. - F1Nut -
Hello,
Jack Bruce, "Songs for a Taylor"
Ken -
Back to vinyl and finally a clean copy of Van Morrison- "Moondance" a must have in LP format. Played a cool Blue Note re-issue Herbie Hancock- "Maiden Voyage" a bit earlier as well....
-
And for fun....Beatles- "Revolver" '70's capitol pressing sounds pretty good....

Next up:
Robert Jr. Lockwood - Does 12
1975, Trix 3317, LP
An absolutely captivating blues album, with 12-string electric guitar lead. Born in 1915, Robert was still performing live through 2004, but haven't seen much since (or an obit). 31 year old vinyl, still sounding mint..... wow!
I just cracked open the new Rolling Stone, only to discover we lost Robert in late November at age 91. Buddy Guy is quoted in the RS obit as saying "we all learned from this guy, he was just the best. A guy like Robert comes along once in a lifetime."
RIP Robert. Your contribution to the blues is immortal. -
Albert King - Born Under A Bad Sign
1967, Atlantic 577/MFSL UltraDisc II, CD
Stellar sound quality! I've had this CD for a number of years (now OOP from MFSL) and never thought it remarkable--until I got a player that could showcase it. I'm sold on the MFSL remastered gold discs now. -

Sweet! yeah it's to bad MFSL doesn't release many remastered gold discs anymore. sometimes they go for a premium on Ebay.. but in some cases are worth every penny.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?
Vancouver, Canada Sept 30th, 2012 - Madonna concert  -
Al,
Yeah, they're remarkable. The Sonny Terry & Brownie McGee MFSL sounds much better than my original vinyl version--and, it's in fantastic shape. -
Freddie King - (1934-1976)
1990, Polygram, CD
My favorite Freddie King album, rivaled only by the Shelter recordings, and featuring his then junked-out pupil EC with one of his finest blues efforts as well. The Wadia, once again, outshines my original LP in clarity, presence and SLAM. Wow! -
Dave Mason - The Best of Dave Mason
1974, Blue Thumb - BTS 6013, LP
I knew I took care of my records for a reason. A quick spin on the VTI 16.5 and this 32 year old vinyl has spectacular sound quality. Great mix of live and studio work, mastered to perfection. Not to be confused with the later Columbia release by the same name, this was nearly a re-release of "Alone Together". Mason had already parted company over artistic differences (pronounced "money") and this was IMO a retaliation by Blue Thumb. Still a marvelous collection and somewhat of a rarity. -
It's CHRISTMAS time and I'm listening to CHRISTMAS music!
John Williams et:al - Home Alone: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
I'm not generally a soundtrack fan...but this one is just cool. It's a stupid movie that I love and I love the soundtrack. The movie is a new Christmas classic IMO.
The Boston Pops Orchestra (Arthur Fiedler, conductor) - White Christmas
Deutsche Grammophon[419414]
A mix of classical and contemporary Christmas Music. This is about as mainstream Christmas music as it gets.
The Carpenters - Christmas Portrait
This MUST be played every Christmas as far as I'm concerned. What a voice Karen Carpenter had.
I have a huge stack of CHRISTMAS music to go through.... HO HO HO!"Just because youre offended doesnt mean youre right." - Ricky Gervais
"For those who believe, no proof is necessary. For those who don't believe, no proof is possible." - Stuart Chase
"Consistency requires you to be as ignorant today as you were a year ago." - Bernard Berenson -
Led Zeppelin - In Through the Out Door
Swan Song, LP
I found this in the vault, still in the shrink wrap. Another mystery. Pretty uneven performances punctuated by far too many synth effects and Plant sounding like he's singing in a metal trash can in the next room on most cuts. "I'm Gonna Crawl" and "Fool in the Rain" were the standouts for me. -
Johnny Cash's "American IV-When the Man Comes Around"
This is a lot better than I was expecting. He does covers of some cool songs that most wouldn't affiliate with Cash . The one everyone has heard is the cover of Trent Reznor's(NIN) "Hurt". Also does a duet with Fiona Apple of Simon and Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Water", which I liked. Sounds better on the SDAs than the LSis."SOME PEOPLE CALL ME MAURICE,
CAUSE I SPEAK OF THE POMPITIOUS OF LOVE" -
Gary Wright - The Dreamweaver
1975, Warner Bros., LP -
Pablo Cruise - Worlds Away
1978, A&M SP 4697, LP
Excellent keyboard work and harmonies. -
Jewel-Live in Clio Michigan-Instant Live Series
Very intimate all acoustic recording of her 2004 tour. The instant live series is the brainchild of Clear Channel entertainment. The idea is to buy a copy of the show (or rather place an order) as a keepsake. I'm sure the idea was to stop bootlegging or at the least generate some revenue on it. It hasn't really reached the mainstream, but I think it's a great idea.
These are uncut and though one would think roughly mixed (however they are not) they sound fantastic. Some artisits I'm sure wouldn't be pleased to have an on the fly live album released. But when the artisit is as strong as Jewel is as a performer very few true blunders exist. She is the perfect example of the type of spontaneous performer that this type of thing works for.
She takes requests from the audience and many times she hasn't played the song in years but she's always willing to attempt it and, if it's not right she stops and starts over. For her it's all about interacting with the audience and she has a wicked sense of humor which comes through in her concerts with her short stories and quick witted responses to cackles from the audience. If you ever hear her talk about the stalker that sent her videos of himself in his under wear lip syncing and dancing to her songs you'll know what a great sense of humor she has. Plus she never ever takes herself or her popularity to seriously.
The experience of listening to any of Jewel's Instant Live series is of me being in my favorite smokey corner bar sitting about 3 feet from the stage with martini in hand listening to a great performance. Good stuff!!;)"Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. Measurements can provide a measure of insight, but are no substitute for human judgment. Mary Chapin Carpenter - Come On, Come On. There are some good tracks on there and I do like the female vocalists. Before that was Tanya Tucker. I'm not a country freak (hate the new stuff) but I like the stuff from the 80's and 90's.Richard? Who's your favorite Little Rascal? Alfalfa? Led Zeppelin-How The West Was Won
This has long been a favorite show of mine (well both of them) I've had the bootlegs from the Forum and Long Beach shows forever. While none of the energy is lacking on the bootlegs it is nicer to hear the much improved sound. I do miss all the inbetween banter and Plantations (as we call them) from the original bootleg recordings. Also they cut the WLL medley and it's nice to hear it fully intact on the boots. There have been rumors all year of more stuff coming in the new year, but I haven't been able to nail anything conclusive down yet.
Plant says he'd love to work with Page again so long as it didn't become a big deal (don't know how that's possible). He also says a new album with his band the Strange Sensation might be finished in the new year. Plant wrote down 12 song titles and gave them to his band mates and said "there are the titles now let's write some lyrics and music. Page has said for several years he has many songs in the can for a new solo album and this may be the year to exercise the demons. But he said he had some Zep stuff to tend to first and that the solo project, while taking a back seat, won't be on the shelf for long.
Keep your fingers crossed."Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. Measurements can provide a measure of insight, but are no substitute for human judgment. Climax Blues Band - Tightly Knit
1971, Plum Records, LP
Thanks VPI! -
Revisiting a disc thats been unplayed for a while.....Joe Bonamassa- "A New Day Yesterday-Live" track 10 ("If heartaches were Nickels"-Warren Haynes penned) just makes the disc for me. Heavy /bluesy guitar oriented fun.
-
Thanks for the reminder, Dave. I need to grab some more of his music.

Neil Diamond-Christmas Album vol. II
An old standby on this Christmas eve day. Next up is a good dose of Jimi Hendrix. Something from the reels and reels of outtakes and jams or perhaps something from the Winterland concerts......that seems season appropriate."Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience.
