This joint needs some more vintage hifi

Some of those early Fishers were really nice, especially the tube units, but also some of the early SS pieces. Don't have any of those in the collection though. But I'm sure mhardy has one somewhere?

I'd love to have one of those old Heathkits for the KLH 17s. Would run them off the Jolida, but it's currently spoken for and I don't need as much power to make the Klosses sing!
Just have to keep reminding myself that my father was paying about $50 a month in rent for an apartment back then!

Heathkit made amplifiers from the sublime to the ridiculous ;-)

That big Tandberg is a receiver I could live with.
Finding some of those tube, Bogen separates for home use NIB in somebody's attic wouldn't be the wor$t thing that could happen to a guy. -
As of two weeks ago, I now have a little Tandberg receiver (TR2025) - haven't even had a chance to power it up yet, though...

OK, here's a bad cell phone pic of the latest find. A $10 JVC JR-S201 (tested on my go to speakers bought for almost nothing at RS clearance prices, the Sony MB 150h cheapo bookies--if they blow up, no one cares).
I may run my Wharfdale Denton 2XP (also $10) and a Sony $9 dollar CDP. A system for a whopping $29 dollars that actually sounds OK!
This JVC is much larger than its 23 lbs+ weight warrants. Reminds me of something Mr. Grand said about a vintage Sony a while back! 35 Watts x 2 but it sounds a LOT more powerful than that! And very clean. Elna caps (2 x 6800mf) and a rather heavy tranformer and a couple of Darlington power packs (amp modules), etc.
Not exactly the most attractive receiver. But a "curiosity" in terms of late '70s design. Who can complain at this price.

Here's a generic web shot of the same piece that's out of focus above (a surprising 19 3/4" x 6 1/2" x 15"):

That 201 was the entry level model - which is danged hard to believe when one encounters one of these receivers in the - umm... flesh. They're, as cnh attested, quite large and quite heavy... and the higher-powered models are larger/heavier still. The cosmetics are... unique... but these really were quite respectable receivers, worthy of rescue and probably low-priced today compared to the sexier/more desirable brands of similar vintage.
Now cnh needs the matching cassette deck! :-) OK, this deck was from the previous model year, and thus the cosmetics are a bit different... but still...
-
heh... hittin' all around the 201 in my motley collection of doc scans online...
EDIT: Oh, and while I am at it, howzabout some meta-vintage hifi, sort of? I have some weird things around the house...

A clean up of the office is in order here.
What you see on the floor is an HK 430 hooked to the Dynaco A25s which have Wharfdale Denton 2 (something or other) on top. Under the HK is a Technics SA-5570 which is running some RSL 40s behind the Dynacos. In the distance my JBL L80ts with a glimmer of the LSi-7s sitting on them. The stack next to it: Adcom GFA-545, Nak pre-amp in sig, and the Pioneer 51fd blu-ray player. The old school TV is a 27" Proscan. I'm moving things around, rotating things in and out. There are racks to the right that you cannot see, mostly of the industrial variety. And a wire mess that needs attention. Oh, an old Sony CDP I got for $9 sits above the HK 430.
I have to borrow my wife's upscale camera! On the other side of this messy floor, an L shaped desk with a couple of unfinished manuscripts on it, works in progress and probably a paper extravaganza. Music, books and papers--could be an autobiographical title, there!

Some nice stuff above. Actually I have a set of storage shelves very much like yours to the right of my pic above loaded with a number of other vintage pieces.
Time to move a few things?

heh, that A-25 is almost as shaggy as the pair I have here ;-)
Nice to see some folks' "real" vintage stashes in the last few posts.
Here's an old-ish photo of the "problem" in my basement (which in some respects is better now, but in other respects worse).

I'm not sure if this counts but I just got these and a pair of DQ10's

Yup, definitely counts :-) Nice stuff. If the Yamahas are in good working order, they'd be well worth trying on the DQ-10s, I'd opine.

I am powering a pair of SDA2Bs at this time with the amp. Not an ideal combo but this is all just for the joy of being able to listen to a different piece of equipment. That's a very nice looking piece, PreCd! What speakers do you power with it?

ahem vintage Altecs (or new-production GPA drivers, if you prefer)... ahem ;-)
And, on the topic of the DQ-10s - heck, I probably posted this before, but what the heck? :-)

Everything works on the amp/preamp, i just need to put in some new lights for the buttons since a couple of them burned out. I'm thinking about swapping out the terminals for binding posts on the M-4's.HT: M5510-Prox2/PN51E550/NR708/M282(3)/RTi A7/CSi A6/FXi A6/DSWPro660x2/PS3/HTPC

When was it done, and how does it sound? Pretty clean looking. -
This is my brothers amp (said mine but not, wish it was). He left it with me while away for a month or two, don't know if I will let him have it back. In saying that I did not get a chance to hear it before hand. It sounds great. I am used to a Adcom GFA-555 and this is very different. It has a much greater sound stage and a more refined sound of course. Not as much punch as the Adcom but I rarely listen to music at great levels anymore know what I mean.dudeinaroom wrote: »When was it done, and how does it sound? Pretty clean looking.SDA2BTL

All the Scott tube gear I have heard is just awe inspiring not to mention some of the quietest phono stages I have heard. Was wondering when your brother had it done because I might have had my ears on it.mhardy6647 wrote: »ampses and receiverators...
Also got a visitor burning in for the weekend.
It is playing with a cd player, the parasound and mains in my sig. -

What is that ugly blue thing that all the components are upon? Is that a V8 or a V6 on the back of that thing? lol Defiantly different looking.
