I would be curious to find out how many of the respondents to these type of threads actually vote, on the local and national level.

I not only vote but get as many folks i can to vote that may not normally bother.

Wouldn't a better question be how many of us have acceptable voter ID's? lol

I would bet that "most" people in this thread vote regularly, and that would include me--if for no other reason than that we need to vote against things! lol

I'd be surprised if the more vocal members here did not vote. Because though I may disagree with some politically, here and there. Hypocrisy is not something that I find to be a problem at CP. I'd say most of us are unreasonably consistent (I include myself in there--so no political intent).

I think it is a long shot to be sure. This place has strayed so far from original intent, even from the State Constitution that when you point out what is wrong, you are thought to be insane. Hopefully there will be people that understand and are ready for the truth.

No State office shall be continued or created in any county, city, town, or other

    law, appoint such officers.

This is article XI section 14 of the California State constitution... there is no ammendment to repeal this. There are however some SIX HUNDRED "revisions" of the Constitution since progressivism took hold here some 120 years ago.
This particular statute would effectively make the AQMD and about a third of the state's rules and regulations null and void!

The people of this state have no clue how badly they have been screwed.

Six hundred revisions in 120 years, that means 5 times a year the states constitution is getting revised ? Every other month almost. Guess people out there don't like laws and keep changing them to suit their needs.....and to keep from going to jail I would guess. Thats absurd.....do people out there realize that, or do they just not give a hoot as long as it benefits welfare recipiants or the rich ?

I have always been one for defending the U.S. Constitution... hell I always will be. I would be willing to bet some serious coin that a majority of folks out there have forgotten that each state has one of their very own. I had not bothered to read Minnesota's(my home state) or California's until just the past few weeks. The best way to defeat a Constitution is to simply ignore it.

In history class, how many of you guys spent even a nanosecond on your state's constitution? If you don't know what's in it, now would be the time to start reading it. I think these forgotten documents are the key to turning the states around, and that is the level where we can make a difference that will be felt in Washington.

I challenge everyone that gives a crap about how things are being done to pick up a copy of the ORIGINAL constitution for your state and the most recent "revision" At least have a clue as to what is in them. You might be shocked at how far the apple has fallen from the tree.

Once apon a time, people got into politics to try and make a difference to the positive. Now it seems they only get into politics for power and money. Him being an entertainer....eh, so what, it's character that counts. Look at the people who sat in the oval office, from actors to peanut farmers to community organizers and all walks of life inbetween.

Not saying the guy has any character, don't know anything about your gov., but from the sound of you guys, I don't want to either. Jess, I'd be shocked if a letter you wrote ever reached his desk. These things are gone over by underlings and trashed before they ever see them. Unless it's in tune with whatever agenda of the week is being pushed. There's a level of seperation between those in power and the general citizenry and for good reason. We'd choke the crap out of them if we had access.

This discussion has been going on for months, and it may not be so black and white as it might first seem. Some reports below from KTLA, a local news channel that is part of the Tribune Company.

    http://www.ktla.com/news/landing/ktla-lapd-chief-backs-drivers-license-for-illegal-immigrants,0,4082912.story
    http://www.ktla.com/news/landing/ktla-impounding-cars-unlicensed-drivers,0,7204940.story

    Some excerpts from those articles:
"The reality is that all the things that we've done -- 'we' being the state of California -- over the last 14, 16 years have not reduced the problem one iota, haven't reduced undocumented aliens driving without licenses. So we have to look at what we're doing. When something doesn't work over and over and over again, my view is that you should reexamine it to see if there is another way that makes more sense." ...

Saying "it could be a provisional license, it could be a nonresident license," ...
Beck, for example, said he would expect the number of hit-and-run accidents to decrease if illegal immigrants were licensed, because illegal immigrant drivers would not have to fear being caught without a license at accidents.
Currently, officers can opt between two parts of the state vehicle code when impounding an unlicensed driver's vehicle.

One allows an owner to retrieve the car from the impound lot immediately, while the other keeps it impounded for 30 days -- a delay that comes with fees and fines that typically exceed $1,200.

Under Beck's proposed changes, officers would be required to use the more lenient approach when impounding cars of unlicensed drivers who have auto insurance, a legitimate form of identification and no previous convictions for unlicensed driving. (People driving on suspended or revoked licenses or those who do not satisfy the department's requirements would have their cars impounded with the 30-day hold.)
The L.A. Police Commission voted on Tuesday to amend the LAPD's impound policy for unlicensed drivers.

The commission voted 4-to-1 in favor of the change, which will help unlicensed drivers avoid having their cars impounded.

Under current laws, if officers stop an unlicensed driver, they tow the vehicle and impound it for 30 days.

But with the new policy, drivers can get their cars back the next day with valid identification, registration and proof of insurance, even if they don't have a driver's license.

Drivers who have a suspended or revoked license, or who have previously been at fault in an accident would not be eligible.
"The difference is that we incentivize drivers to comply with the things they can comply with... have insurance, have identification," Beck explained.

On the one hand, you're trying to avoid hit and run accidents by encouraging people without a license to remain on the scene of an accident, rather than run for fear of losing their vehicle (and ability to work) for thirty days. On the other hand, you're letting people drive without a license, which they have been doing for years, apparently, ... and nobody seems able to stop that.

You are also basically admitting that the illegal alien problem is so huge that it's not going away any time soon, no matter what the penalties imposed for driving without a license when caught. Therefore, give those illegal aliens some form of temporary identification so that they will abide by some traffic related laws, while continuing to earn a living, even though they are here illegally in the first place.

Take your pick ... there may be no winners on either side, but hit and run accidents are a big problem. They happen every single day without fail.

Mind you, they gave a license to nooshinjohn, after all, so I'm not confident in the trustworthiness of that program either, even when it is properly enforced.

Reading this today, pay attention to the last statement in the article. ...

Don Rosenberg says he'd favor that, as long as the police enforce state law by impounding unlicensed drivers' cars when pulled over. But he believes that the city is pandering to the Latino community and doesn't hold out hope that the policy will change anytime soon.

"It's more important that people who are in the country illegally get to drive than it is that people who are here get to live," he said.
Tony, just to clarify: that last quote you put in bold was from a person against the policy change, not an official, or any other person arguing in favor of the policy change.

The proposed (and it seems accepted) change is not to ignore the law, as stated by the Fox News report, but to change its implementation.

Where is this coming from??? Don't see anything above that warrants it. What's with politics on this site that make them so incendiary so "easily" and so "quickly". Are we so frustrated at the insignificance in our lives that we need to act out in a space where our beliefs have almost NO impact on society outside? What is this "rage against the machine"?

Chill out John! A little less time looking at the world outside and a little more reflecting on the one inside would help. Everyone on this site has a secondary personality that is partially "molded", redone, for web consumption, some have more affectations than others. But, you know, when you meet the guys here face-to-face you really see a lot more than a few sentences or a few thousand posts could "ever" convey. It was not without reason that the Greek Oracle declared "Know Thyself" as one of the most important things one should do. And the second: "NOTHING in excess!"

Fox News is famous for its bias. They deliberately do these stories to spin up the conservative lunatic fringe, and the usual suspects at Club Polk always fall for it.
Yup... off that such an important story based upon a Feb 28th TV interview is published on March 22. Article even says "earlier this month", which might raise a doubt or two about it's accuracy.

Could it be to divert attention from FLA???

I believe that, regardless of the results of the next election, the madness will continue.

I have exactly ZERO faith that either party has the balls to do anything great.

And who, exactly, is perpetuating the "madness" of illegal immigration? Aren't they being welcomed and hired by American citizens who value cheap labor above secure borders?

Putting politics aside, the real issue here is a police chief who has officially stated to ignore/not enforce a law that is on the books.

The real issue here is that many people in this county are addicted to cheap, "under the table" labor and they are going to get it one way or another.

Incorrect. My family immigrated here legally from Germany in the 1860's. Like it or not, the American Indian is a "conquered" people.

So, might makes right? If the Mexicans were coming over the border and acquiring territory through military conquest rather than through a willingness to supply cheap labor, you would respect that? If that is true, then the immigration issue may become an easier pill to swallow once the well-armed, well-trained, well-financed drug gangs move north of the border.
The pressure is coming mainly from the businesses that run "sweat shops" in the LA area and the large number of people who knowingly employ illegal immigrants.
If their work crews aren't able to make it to work, their business suffers.

Hmmmmm....post #61. I was wondering how long it was going to take before someone pointed out the 10 ton elephant in the middle of the room. The anger toward illegal immigrants is misplaced. Get rid of the people hiring them and the illegals won't come.

Bingo... Texas had a tough immigration law in committee and on track to go to the full assembly when suddenly it fell out of favor. Why? Texas homebuilder Bob Perry, AKA Mr. Swift boat, saw what it would do to his work force and made it go away... $$$.

I'm curious to know if there was significant public outrage, boycotting of Mr. Perry's business, and stiff government fines due to his shameful support of illegal immigration?

People can **** all they want, but the solution to the illegal immigration problem, like the illegal drug problem, lies squarely at home:

    1. If you want desperate people to stop risking their lives by illegally coming across the border, STOP HIRING THEM and/or stop supporting people and businesses that do.

    2. If you want desperate criminals to stop flooding the country with illegal drugs, severely diminish (you can never eliminate it) the demand and the thugs will seek customers elsewhere.
