Just remember that unless you are Native American, we are all descended from "illegal aliens".

Now, have fun picking apart my "logic"!

Incorrect. My family immigrated here legally from Germany in the 1860's. Like it or not, the American Indian is a "conquered" people.

I like you John. But 1965 means that you were all of 8 years old in 1973? And weren't even born when John F. Kennedy was shot. I know you take yourself seriously.

But you need to "loosen up" a little. In a classic work that was a best-seller in the '60s-70's, Herman Hesse's Steppenwolf, the main character, Harry Haller is condemned to "live" until he learns how to "laugh"!

More laughter fewer political flourishes would help. I think!

Here's a little help from a famous Chinese Philosopher for you:

Chuang Tzu Story - Three Friends

There were three friends, discussing life.
One said: “Can men live together and know nothing of it,
    Work together and produce nothing?
Can they fly around in space and forget to exist,
    World without end?”

The three friends looked at each other
    And burst out laughing.
    They had no explanation,
Thus they were better friends than before.

Our current administration and politicians, and the sheriff referenced, find it to be OK to ignore laws to facilitate illegal immigrants from a specific country. So what they are saying is that if you sneak across the right border, wink wink, we'll support you. What about people who want to immigrate to the US from Russia, Ukraine, South Africa, etc? I have friends from my years of international work that have been trying to "legally" immigrate to the US for years. Right now it's tough to even get a work visa. Our laws need to be enforced, it's a clear and present danger to the US to not enforce our immigration laws equally no matter what country you sneak in from. Laws can be changed through debate and compromise and there is a process to do so.

Having a good, long time friend who is a boarder patrol agent in Arizona and discussing these types of issues with him and other agents you soon realize the cold hard truth.

The government could very well stop the flow of illegals from Mexico, but they don't want to. Every agent I have talked to has said the same thing. Even they know it would be rather simple to stop it, but it is just not going to happen. At the very most they stop less than 10% of what is coming across. Even that is a somewhat inflated number.

Sadly I live in Portland, Oregon and the liberal mindset makes me nuts. All the time I hear the left say "the solution to the problem is to just make them citizens and have them pay taxes". My response is usually "oh, ok.. so you want to piss in the face of millions of Asians who came here, went though the system and became citizens." They usually want to argue with me over it and when I point out I'm part Chinese they don't have a leg to stand on. Most of the time the start yelling at me and doing their best to be insulting.

It is sad that criminals have more rights than law abiding citizens. While I would like to believe the current administration will be voted out in November, my gut tells me we're stuck with him for another four years. I will do my part and vote against Obama even though I'm in the minority where I live.

I know your pain, I have many relatives in Oregon and they can't believe the changes over the last 25 years. Kali-liberal disease has flowed both to Oregon, and east to Colorado, and we're starting to see the impacts in Arizona as well. They like our low cost of living, our beautiful landscapes, and our fresh air---and by the time they get done "fixing" Arizona, that'll all be gone. Since they boycotted Az over immigration laws, I think we should boycott them from moving to Arizona. Why would they want to live with us gun-toten "rednecks" anyway? Oh, that's right....to save us from ourselves.

    No thanks.

There were no "illegals" back when for us to be descentants from.....because it wasn't illegal to just come here. You can't break a law that doesn't exist.

I'm sure all of you are familiar with that shooting I think was in Florida by that neighborhood watch guy. We have all the pundits down there beating the drums, even the Prez chimed in. Tragic as it was, it's being made political for the obvious reasons. Loss of life is terrible, but.....did that border agent who was killed under the Fast and Furious thing even so much as get an apology to the family ? What....his life ment nothing ? You have to pull teeth to get anyone interested in justice for that guy.

As always Tony... excellent points. Let's not forget the Border Agents that are in jail for shooting an illegal alien drug smuggler in the ****. The charge was violating his "civil rights"!:eek: The taxpayers then forked over 25million for this douchebag as an apology!
U.S. District Court Judge Kathleen Cardone in El Paso, Texas, sentenced Jose Alonso Compean to 12 years in prison and Ignacio Ramos to 11 years and one day despite a plea by their attorney for a new trial after three jurors said they were coerced into voting guilty in the case, the Washington Times reported.

As WorldNetDaily reported, a federal jury convicted Compean, 28, and Ramos, 37, in March after a two-week trial on charges of causing serious bodily injury, assault with a deadly weapon, discharge of a firearm in relation to a crime of violence and a civil rights violation.

Ramos is an eight-year veteran of the U.S. Naval Reserve and a former nominee for Border Patrol Agent of the Year.

On Feb. 17, 2005, he responded to a request for back up from Compean, who noticed a suspicious van near the levee road along the Rio Grande River near the Texas town of Fabens, about 40 miles east of El Paso.

Ramos, who headed toward Fabens hoping to cut off the van, soon joined a third agent already in pursuit.

Behind the wheel of the van was an illegal alien, Osbaldo Aldrete-Davila of Mexico. Unknown to the growing number of Border Patrol agents converging on Fabens, Aldrete-Davila’s van was carrying 800 pounds of marijuana.

Unable to outrun Ramos and the third agent, Aldrete-Davila stopped the van on the levee, jumped out and started running toward the river. When he reached the other side of the levee, he was met by Compean who had anticipated the smuggler’s attempt to get back to Mexico.

“We both yelled out for him to stop, but he wouldn’t stop, and he just kept running,” Ramos told California’s Inland Valley Daily Bulletin. Aldrete-Davila crossed a canal.

“At some point during the time where I’m crossing the canal, I hear shots being fired,” Ramos said. “Later, I see Compean on the ground, but I keep running after the smuggler.”

At that point, Ramos said, Aldrete-Davila turned toward him, pointing what looked like a gun.

“I shot,” Ramos said. “But I didn’t think he was hit, because he kept running into the brush and then disappeared into it. Later, we all watched as he jumped into a van waiting for him. He seemed fine. It didn’t look like he had been hit at all.”

The commotion and multiple calls for back up had brought seven other agents – including two supervisors – to the crossing by this time. Compean picked up his shell casings, but Ramos did not. He also did not follow agency procedure and report that he had fired his weapon.

“The supervisors knew that shots were fired,” Ramos told the paper. “Since nobody was injured or hurt, we didn’t file the report. That’s the only thing I would’ve done different.”

Had he done that one thing differently, it’s unlikely it would have mattered to prosecutors.

More than two weeks after the incident, Christopher Sanchez, an investigator with the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Inspector General, received a call from a Border Patrol agent in Wilcox, Ariz. The agent’s mother-in-law had received a call from Aldrete-Davila’s mother in Mexico telling her that her son had been wounded in the buttocks in the shooting.

Sanchez followed up with a call of his own to the smuggler in Mexico.

In a move that still confuses Ramos and Compean, the U.S. government filed charges against them after giving full immunity to Aldrete-Davila and paying for his medical treatment at an El Paso hospital.

At trial, Assistant U.S. Attorney Debra Kanof told the court that the agents had violated an unarmed Aldrete-Davila’s civil rights.

“The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled it is a violation of someone’s Fourth Amendment rights to shoot them in the back while fleeing if you don’t know who they are and/or if you don’t know they have a weapon,” said Kanof.

Kanof dismissed Ramos’ testimony that he had seen something shiny in the smuggler’s hand, saying that the agent couldn’t be sure it was a gun he had seen.

Further, Kanof argued, it was a violation of Border Patrol policy for agents to pursue fleeing suspects.

“Agents are not allowed to pursue. In order to exceed the speed limit, you have to get supervisor approval, and they did not,” she told the Daily Bulletin.

Those shell casings Compean picked up were described to the jury as destroying the crime scene and their failure to file an incident report – punishable by a five-day suspension, according to Border Patrol regulations – an attempted cover up.

The Texas jury came back with a guilty verdict. Conviction for discharging a firearm in relation to a crime of violence has an automatic 10-year sentence. The other counts have varying punishments.

“How are we supposed to follow the Border Patrol strategy of apprehending terrorists or drug smugglers if we are not supposed to pursue fleeing people?” said Ramos, who noted that he only did on that day what he had done for the previous 10 years. “Everybody who’s breaking the law flees from us. What are we supposed to do? Do they want us to catch them or not?”

He also noted that none of the other agents who had responded to the incident filed reports that shots were fired and, besides, both supervisors at the scene knew they had discharged their weapons.

“You need to tell a supervisor because you can’t assume that a supervisor knows about it,” Kanof countered. “You have to report any discharge of a firearm.”

“This is the greatest miscarriage of justice I have ever seen,” said Andy Ramirez of the nonprofit group Friends of the Border Patrol. “This drug smuggler has fully contributed to the destruction of two brave agents and their families and has sent a very loud message to the other Border Patrol agents: If you confront a smuggler, this is what will happen to you.”

The El Paso Sheriff’s Department increased its patrols around the Ramos home when the family received threats from people they believed were associated with Aldrete-Davila.

If the 'law' was the real issue, why aren't we looking at the illegal dispensaries in California? Those are being ignored by local, state, and federal agencies. I like how we as a nation pick and choose which laws are, 'bad' not to follow.

Look, I'm going to revisit my last point. The fact of the matter is that Arizona's anti-immigration laws we're drawn up by a bunch of old, rich, white men, in a scheme to get richer. It is going to break the state financially in the long run, if the state is going to throw thousands into prison for being undocumented, then they will have to pay for each soul sitting behind bars. I don't see how the people of Arizona allowed a corporation to do this when the facts are known? Now America will have to deal with ANOTHER upside-down financial state.

Look, I grew up in the first community in Iowa to become minority white. Most of our Hispanics we're illegal, we all knew that. But they we're good citizens, better then a lot of the long members of our community. They supported the schools, churches, paid taxes, and did their part. If we flushed all of the illegals out at once, chaos would ensue. Who would process your meat, harvest your precious vegetables and fruit, and do all of those chores for ten hours a day at minimum wage?

It IS going to be more of the same, because we can't afford as a nation to not work with these people. Most are law abiding, and that?s why they don't get caught. I feel like some people are going to have to accept that fact, I grew up with it in my face. We have bigger issues to focus on as a nation; education should be our number one priority. Yet, we dump money into unfounded wars, fighting a losing war on drugs, and trying to catch immigrants.

Police Chief Charlie Beck is a disgrace to the badge.

I wish you luck, I tried getting appointed to my city council as a replacement appointment after spend way too many nights at meetings. In the end I was passed over in favor (rightly so) for a guy who had been on citizen committees which is really down and dirty work. What I'm trying to say is that those in the know normally want to see a foundation of development.

    Agreed, Face.
Police Chief Beck's job probably consists of 5% police work, 95% politics, IMO.
If that statement is true, then I ask myself, "Why is Beck doing what he's doing ?".

Is it because the LAPD wants to be "fair" ? IMO, the answer has to be heck no. "Fair" is nice, but in the long run, the LAPD doesn't give a hoot in Hades about "fair" (and that's how it should be, to a certain degree).

So .... why's the LAPD doing what they're doing ?
It would have to be pressure from some source, would it not ?

The pressure is coming mainly from the businesses that run "sweat shops" in the LA area and the large number of people who knowingly employ illegal immigrants.
If their work crews aren't able to make it to work, their business suffers.
If their work crews aren't able to make it to work, Kim Kardashian doesn't get her lawn manicured, or her shrubs trimmed. Who's to clean the Olympic size pool ?

Follow the money, a wise man once said, and you'll find the source of the problem.
