Finnaly got up at 12:30...slept like a baby once I went to bed around 4:00am.

No scary HARD gusts to remember. I lost(temp.) a cool Chinaberry tree that was a backdrop ornamental tree (behind a shed) that is fragile and always breaks during a hurricane . It always grows back so another cycle continues...

We did get at least 4.5 inches of rain in 24 hrs. ...

I'm going to go over some of the newer posts in here and elsewhere after brunch now.

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers guys and gals.

It's raining here in Bucks County Pa (north of Phila and right next to Burlington Nj on the other side of the Delaware river) . Hopefully it doesn't get to bad.

We are doing something similar. I moved my mother over to my sisters, she lives on the Delaware river. We are hoping to get by without a power loss, I don't have a generator.

I'm making a big pot of gravy and we are gonna paahtay a lil bit.

It's easier to feed the 240v. output into a 40amp breaker and plug it into your panel or run it into the recpticle for an electric dryer. Just be sure to throw the main breaker OFF!! Lightman will kick yer butt if you give him a shock !:biggrin:

He won't be able to kick your butt if you backfeed the line and it kills him... Remember, step down transformers on the pole work both ways.

Correct. For the sake of lives, please don't backfeed your panel if you don't know what you are doing. Someone may get killed. I'd rather run extension cords to power my sump pump.

I've talked to linemen a lot and it doesn't really worry them nowadays because they jumper and ground lines six ways from Sunday before they are even remotely at risk. But yeah, if it isn't "comfortable", don't undertake it.

I drove out to get some tacos and there were some huge trees that were blown down and many, many small trees blown over. I might photograph this intersection a block from me where the biggest damage I saw was. 3 Huge trees down, one was blocking a road bigtime! I'll post it here if I get a photo.

Good luck to you guys and gals up north of me.

I have a Briggs 10,000 watt unit with 12,500 watt surge all ready to go. We wired 50 amp generator service into a 200 amp manual throw transfer switch, that way I wouldn't have to start pulling the breaker panel apart. It's fed by a cable thicker than a garden hose with 30 feet coiled up in the garage, with a 50 amp termination that goes into the generator. So I just wheel the generator outside, hit the electric start, plug in the cord, and throw the transfer switch.

I'm going to need it, the eye of the storm is still tracking straight through my backyard. My biggest fear is a tree coming down...

    Dude.

    This is ridiculous.

I officially hate The Weather Channel.

It's hilarious watching them scrape for any piece of downed pole or branch they can get so they can show that something fell over.

Jesse (F1nut) made an assertion about fear mongering in a thread around here somewhere (maybe this one?), but seriously: nail on the effing head.

I thought it was funny at first; now it just makes me mad. Well, not really mad, I'm doin' pretty well with the new 1.7's... but if I was the type guy who would get mad, I'd be mad as ****.

No power at home, but have internet and power from generators here at work. Likely to be several days for power at home, as MANY trees are down on power lines. Although Irene was "only" a Cat 1 storm when it got here to eastern NC, the slow speed of the storm meant it really piled water up into the rivers and sounds. We've had more damage then any of the storms I can recall for the last 20 years. Water was higher, flooding more extensive, and more property damage.

Many of my coworkers have lost homes that were >12' above the water. It will be a while before they can get to their homes due to downed trees making roads impassable.

The largest marina in the area is absolutely devastated, with both covered sheds decimated, not a boat left floating. The boats on the hard (pulled out by travel lift and stored on land) for the storm were not spared, as the boats were floated off their stands. There is a road blocked by a 43' trawler leaking diesel fuel. Boats in trees, many on their sides, on power lines, etc.

    It's a real mess.

Lots of rain and wind (30 mph gusts) in central MA. Nothing major yet. The worst should get here around 2pm, but it sounds like only 60+ mph gusts. Something to be concerned about of course but not as bad as the South.
