Latest Updates. Looks like it is going to get REAL WET in the Northeast as this storm passes through 6-10 inches of rain and a 4-8' storm surge in Chesapeake Bay and 3-6' on the New Jersey Coast.

It's gonna be nasty, just remember not much diff in a 2 or a 3 or even a 1 in this storm, the NE is not up to what's gonna happen, massive flooding, many downed trees, some on homes, I'd be in the lowest level of the house (unless you're in a flood zone). Please take care guys and gals.

In sympathy AZ kicked up a good'un, here's a pic of my front yard about 5pm yesterday, must have been a 70mph gust with rain going horizontal, those queen palm fronds never move much, but they did yesterday. The house was groaning, I can't imagine what 24 hours of that would be like

I love that part of the country and hope everything goes well.

We stayed in Wilmington in 2010, and just left Surf City on Topsail Island this Monday after 10 nearly perfect days in an amazing rental home with a private pool 20 feet from the back door, and the surf less than 100 feet from the front.

There was a nervous tension in the air everywhere the local residents hung out even at the top of the week.

The property owners we rented from had actually just driven in from Pennsylvania to board things up and cover the pool. The driveway/pool level of the home is about 13 feet above average high tide and the barrier dunes averaged about 14 feet so just the surge may be problematic for this particular property.

Good luck and prayers to the East Coast.

Stay safe guys. Trajectories have this thing reaching even me? And I'm a couple hours or so south of the Canadian border here. I've been kidding my daughter some because she starts H.S. right after Irene passes by and her name is a variant of Irene.

Irene downgraded to a Cat 2 with maximum sustained winds of 100 MPH. It's picking up speed though, was supposed to hit here at 2pm Sunday afternoon. Now forecast to hit around 8 AM Sunday morning.

Supposed to roll over the Mid-Atlantic states (the Carolinas and Virginia) in the next 12-24 hours. Current path is Northerly at 14 mph. Expected to make a North Easterly turn in early morning hours of Saturday. Is predicted to be downgraded to a Cat 1 by the time it hits the Delaware coast. Tropical storm warnings are in effect for anything north of Sandy Hook, NJ and should be downgraded to a tropical storm by that time.

The track of the storm pretty much shows the eye of it going straight through my backyard in CT. I'm going to get crushed by this thing tomorrow night into Sunday. As long as no trees come down through my house, I should be fine. Generator is all gassed up and ready to go, with several cans of gasoline to spare. As long as I keep power to my sump pumps I should be fine...

    Fingers crossed!
Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

Please be very careful fellow Polkies, stay safe and be prepared with the usual items. Generators are great and if you have one remember to have safely stored gasoline(or diesel)they use more than you realize running all day. And please, please, please remember to keep your running generator far enough away from the house. People forget this and they die from carbon monoxide poisoning. Also ice is going to be rediculously scarce as the storm gets closer.

Grab a 12'er, sit back because it's that time of the month, and Irene is experiencing heavy flows...WATCH OUT!

As long as she doesn't tear down the Bourne or Sagamore bridges, i'll be fine. Week vaca in Truro over labor day is coming hell or high water...hopefully more along of the lines of hell and no water.

Got as much tied down, put away, and boarded up as I possibly can.

All I can do now is sit and wait and hope this thing loses some intensity before she makes her presence known...

Hard to believe this storm is so close, it's such a gorgeous day here today :frown:
